Photorealist Artist Creates Incredibly Realistic Paintings of Snacks and Comics

Comics-Snacks-Pete

I have a tremendous respect for photorealist painters. To capture on a canvas what many people fail to capture through a photo takes incredible talent. When I discovered Doug Bloodworth created a series of paintings combining two of my favorite loves, he immediately jump shot to the top of my list of artists.

Through oil-based paintings, Bloodworth formed a theme of vintage snacks paired with old-school comics and funny books. The Florida painter definitely knows how to hit the nostalgia bone.

Using grids and a blank canvas, each piece can take Bloodworth more than two months to complete. The end product, however, is absolutely worth the time spent. Check out some of his paintings below.

X-Men Themed Burgers from Carl’s Jr. Come Loaded with X-tra Bacon

xtrabacon1

The upcoming X-Men movie Days of Future Past may not make a lick of sense, but mo’ bacon always does.

In a promotional tie-in similar to last year’ s Superman-themed “Super Bacon Cheeseburger” and 2012’s Spiderman-themed “Amazing Grilled Cheese Bacon Burger,” Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s is now offering another X-TREMELY baconed-out set of sandwiches, in honor of the new X-Men film.

The first is the Western X-tra Bacon Cheeseburger, which comes with four strips of bacon, American cheese, beef patties, barbecue sauce, and o-rings. The other is the X-tra Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit, featuring four slices of bacon, an egg patty, American cheese, and a buttermilk biscuit, for breakfast only.

Presumably, you won’t have to send yourself to the past in order to nab one of these little piggies, but you should probably stop by a Carl’s Jr/Hardee’s ASAP. When in doubt, just remember this little maxim: “If your future self doesn’t come back to stop you, how bad a decision can it be?”

‘Get Your Claws On’ These New Asian-Style Burgers from Red Robin x The Wolverine

redwolverine1

In case you’ve already forgotten who “Wolverine” is, here’s a quick reminder: he’s probably the only character you didn’t hate in any of the X-Men movies (at least he was until that bloody prequel came out). He’s also played by Hugh Jackman.

redwolverine3

Yeah, that guy.

In promotion for next month’s upcoming movie The Wolverine, Red Robin is launching two new “Asian”-style burgers called the “Beserker” and the “Kuzuri Style Tavern Double.” According to Grub Grade, the Beserker features a brioche bun with a sliced top to represent the hero’s iconic claws as well as a fire-grilled burger topped with zesty aioli, spicy pickles, Sriracha onion straws and cheddar cheese. The Kuzuri is a double patty burger with “samurai slaw,” ginger garlic wonton strips and cilantro. Kuzuri means “wolverine” in Japanese.

Finally, from now until June 30, guests can also purchase a $25 limited edition Wolverine gift card at participating restaurants and enter the gift card code at www.redrobin.com/movietix to receive a free movie ticket – while anyone who sees the movie during opening weekend (July 26-28) can get $3 off their Red Robin order the following Monday through Thursday (July 29 – August 1) with movie ticket stub.

Now if only they both came with a pint of Logan Ale.
