Controversial Map Shows Every State’s Favorite Fast Food, Somehow California’s Isn’t In-N-Out

Business Insider is usually a pretty credible source, but we have to question this map of America’s favorite fast food restaurants.

Using data from Foursquare, they took the average visit per location and then divided it by locations in the state. The results are a bit questionable, though.

First red flag, as a Californian, was that Raising Cane’s was the Cali winner and not In-N-Out. Say what you want about In-N-Out — maybe it is overrated, maybe you feel there are better burgers out there — but its popularity is hard to dispute, especially in California.

How Raising Cane’s and its seven California locations beat out In-N-Out, is baffling. Instead, Utah and Texas won the honor of having In-N-Out stamped on the map.

It’s nice that those states have a couple In-N-Outs now, but Californians probably feel like this:

Even Texans are laughing at the fact that In-N-Out is representing them.

Business Insider has since taken down the tweet, because they were getting ravaged by the internet, but the story remains, and remains incorrect. Probably.

Houston Police Asked To Stop Using Whataburger Table Markers At Crime Scenes

There is nothing more Texan than finding Whataburger table markers at a crime scene. Sadly, at least in Houston, that practice may now be coming to an end.

Apparently, Cops in Houston have been asked to stop utilizing the numbered signs from Whataburger to mark evidence due to public pressure. According to the Houston Chronicle, this practice has developed because police officers themselves do not carry official evidence signs. Since they tend to arrive ahead of the local CSI units, cops use whatever they can get their hands on to preemptively mark evidence. This prevents anything from washing or blowing away and getting lost before crime scene units arrive to mark it themselves.

A case recently gave this practice national attention when officers used the Whataburger numbers to mark evidence at a local shooting. For the cops, it made sense for them since a Whataburger was nearby and they could use it until CSI units arrived. Unfortunately, the Houston Police Department received several calls following the incident asking them if Whataburger was sponsoring the department. To clear up that confusion, Houston cops can no longer use material as evidence markers at crime scenes, including the Whataburger table markers.

Houston police have unfortunately lost one of their crime scene staples as a result. However, we do have confirmation that unlike most of Texas, they did return the Whataburger signs after using them.

10 of the Best Fast Food Chains You’ve Never Heard Of

Everyone has heard of the big names in Fast Food like McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King. However, there are several smaller quick service chains that deserve your love, too. Here are the coolest fast food chains we could find that you might not have heard of before. Warning: you might have to plan a road trip after reading.

Location: Southern California

It’s never too late at night to eat at #albertacos #albertacosorange #carneasadafries #orangeca #hungryinorange #instafood

California is known for their superior Mexican food and Albertacos is no exception. This small, local chain has been wowing local folk since its was born. Albertacos is especially known for their carne asada fries and their breakfast burrito. There is some speculation about what could possibly make Albertacos’ breakfast burrito so good, but the general consensus is that it’s all in their fluffy, flawless tortilla and fresh eggs.

Cava Grill
Location: Washington, DC

Cava Grill is basically God’s gift to man. The concept runs in a sort of Chipotle-fashion with multiple stations on somewhat of an assembly line, but the food is Mediterranean rather than Mexican. Cava Grill is especially known for their spreads, which include harissa, hummus, Crazy Feta, and roasted red pepper hummus. These spreads are so good that they’re produced in small batches and sold to local Whole Foods stores.

Location: Illinois

If you’ve ever heard of a “Chicago hot dog,” Portillo’s is it. They opened their doors in 1963, and Chicagoans and Midwesterners have been obsessed ever since. While Portillo’s does sell other items besides hot dogs, like sandwiches and ribs, you should definitely opt for the classic dog. Their’s is served with mustard, relish, celery salt, chopped onions, sliced tomatoes, kosher pickle and peppers all on a steamed poppy seed bun.

Location: Texas

Whataburger is essentially the Texas version of In ‘N Out, but if any devoted fans read this they will probably fight back in protest. Texans are very passionate about their Whataburger, and they think their burgers are in a league of their own. Who knew people could be so territorial about a piece of meat!

Location: North Carolina/Virginia

Biscuitville is pretty amazing. It’s basically a dream of ours to walk into an establishment and be able to order essentially anything served in between two warm slices of biscuit. The restaurant calls North Carolina and Virginia home, and specializes in breakfast sandwiches. A few standouts from the menu include a Pimento Cheese & Bacon Biscuit and the BLT Biscuit.

Golden Krust Bakery
Location: New York City

JERK PORK MEAL (White Rice, Steamed Cabbage & Plantains) #spicyfood #goldenkrust

Golden Krust is a franchise chain located primarily in New York. They’ve branched out to a few nearby states in the past couple years due to a widespread demand, but majority of the locations are still in the Empire State. Golden Krust specializes in Caribbean food, which in our opinion is severely underestimated among the fast casual scene. The place is especially known for their flaky and filling beef patties, but serves up several other Caribbean favorites like Jerk Chicken and Braised Oxtail.

Buffalo Joe’s
Location: Chicago, IL

Buffalo Joe’s is another Chicagoland establishment that has a lot of fans. Most locations are located in Evanston, IL, which is a college town, and students can’t get enough of the stuff. “Buff Joe’s,” as the place is lovingly called, is especially known for their buffalo wings and tenders. The place also serves classic Chicago dogs, but you should really go for the wings.

Harold’s Chicken Shack
Location: Midwest

Most Harold’s locations lie in the Chicagoland area, more specifically on the South Side, where the chain originated. Harold’s has become immensely popular mainly by word of mouth. The chain doesn’t even have a website or major social media accounts. They pride themselves on making insanely delicious chicken and a variety of unique sauces.

Nando’s Peri Peri
Location: East Coast & Illinois (DC, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois)

Nando’s is extremely popular for their flame grilled chicken seasoned with peri-peri sauce. This sauce originated in Portugal and areas of West Africa, and is primarily composed of crushed chillis, which gives the sauce its red hue. Nando’s does the dish well, and East Coasters have started following the chain with cult-like intensity.

Smoke’s Poutinerie
Location: California, Nevada, Florida, Arizona

Smoke’s Poutinerie is a joint serving up poutine, or fries with cheese curds, gravy, and various meats, in the Western area of the US. The chain originated in Canada, which is not surprising since the country is the birthplace of the stuff. Poutine has become a guilty pleasure for many and for good reason: it’s one of the most delicious things on the planet.

Whataburger Employee gets $10,000 Fur Coat at Drive-Thru

Drive-thru customers can be downright dicks sometimes. Sure for every jerk, you’ll get 10 or so amiable human beings. However, sometimes that one unappreciative customer can make one question the concept of human decency.

Not so much the case for Whataburger employee, Cheryl Semien.

A customer drove up to the drive-thru window at the Liberty, TX, location. According to reports, Semien complimented the customer’s mink coat. The customer, Nadine, had never met Semien before in her life. Nadine described Semien as so sweet that she took the coat off her back and handed it to the fast food employee.

Semien’s coworkers said she reacted like anyone who just received a $10,000 fur coat would, screaming as if had won the lottery.

It’s great to see there are people out there who see fast food employees as people, rather than burger dispensers.

Semien, who has been working at the Whataburger for nine years, happened to be behind the drive thru on her birthday.

Whataburger Offers New Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit

Yoga mat bread, milkshakes, and now cheddar biscuits. It seems jalapeño’s everywhere on fast food menu boards these days, which is awesome if you’re like me and want all the spice, all the time.

Texas-based chain Whataburger seems to get that, because they’re offering their new Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit on any biscuit of your choosing from 11 pm to 11 am, at all participating locations. That means jalapeño cheddar honey butter chicken biscuits, jalapeño cheddar biscuit sandwiches with bacon, regular jalapeño cheddar biscuits with egg.

Feedback on Facebook says the biscuits are “game-changing” and the jalapeño “definitely wakes you up.” Perfect, now who’d like to send us some?

Get Your Girlfriend This Whataburger Ketchup Bundle For Valentines Day If You Want To Break Up

Whataburger Ketchup Bundle Valentines DayGents, just in case you need any last minute gift ideas for Valentines Day, this post shouldn’t help at all. Whataburger, the Texas-headquartered hamburger chain with 750 locations in 10 states, announced that the Whataburger Ketchup Lover’s Bundle is available for purchase though its website and includes a 20-ounce bottle of Whataburger Fancy Ketchup, Ketchup Blanket, Ketchup T-Shirt, Ketchup Mouse Pad and a Ketchup Reusable Grocery Bag. I’m not only impressed by the sheer amount of ketchup items in one bag (who knew?), but more importantly the fact that I was able to use Ketchup in a sentence six times. Personal record. Here are the pros and cons of getting this for your significant other.

CON: Everything is Based on A CONdiment

What’s the best way to say I love you? By telling your girlfriend that you know how much she likes to eat. And specifically that she likes to eat so much she’s willing to sport it on five everyday items. Either she’s going to break up with you or keep you abstinent for years.

CON: Not Boys II Men or Brian McKnight CONcert Tickets

Hopefully you don’t have a girlfriend that’s expecting chocolate, roses, a $$$$ Yelp dinner, and a Boys II Men concert opened by Brian McKnight. But just in case you do, this lover’s bundle probably shouldn’t be the gift opening OR closing your night. As much as I’ve dreamed about wearing my Whataburger Fancy Ketchup T-Shirt while singing Although we’ve come, to the END OF THE ROAD, I realize I may be in the minority. But still I can’t let go. It’s unnatural. You belong to me Ketchup. And I will always belong to you.

PRO & CON: Ketchup Stain-PROof Products

Why is the blanket, t-shirt and mouse pad red? For Valentines Day? NOPE. Because it matches the Ketchup Bottle?! Probably, but here’s the best reason: because you can spill ketchup all over these items and they look better. Eating the six french fries at your desk because you ate the rest on the car ride? That mouse pad sure looks like a good place to place to squeeze your ketchup. You’ll be able to eat fries and greasify your keyboard without leaving your desk. And if your girlfriend wasn’t completely offended by the initial surprise of this ketchup lover’s bundle, she might be when she figures out you gave her the ketchup-slob-proof t-shirt and blanket.

PRO: Not A PROmise Ring

You’ve seen the gleam in her eye. But you’re unsure if the gleam was from the reflection of diamonds from the jewelry store window or if it was the portal to her soul hoping for an eternal future with you. Sure, you tried to lure her away from the window by offering to purchase a chocolate-covered candy apple. But it didn’t work. And now you have to get her something. I’m sure this Ketchup Bundle will almost mean as much. And Whataburger offers free ground shipping? Where do you sign?

PRO: Keeps Her Standards Low, PRObably

She already knows that you’re nothing like the guys from the movies. But with this gift you can ensure that all you’ll need for the next Valentines Day is a package of mustard related products. Rotating condiment gifts? A lot cheaper than jewelry. Bonus: your fridge will be stocked.
