How to Make a Bacon-Wrapped Star of David

This year, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah converge for the ultimate holiday portmanteau of Thanksgivukkah. This once-in-a-lifetime event (seriously, this isn’t happening again for another 70,000 years) has inspired such creations as the turkey-stuffed sufganiyah, latke cranberry fritters and more delightful savory treats and desserts.
Feeling inspired, the Foodbeast team decided to make our own delicious Thanksgivukkah contribution. So, we grabbed some chicken sausages, wrapped them in turkey bacon, threw them on the pan and drizzled the creation in mustard. What resulted was both delicious and breathtaking.

The Bacon-Wrapped Star of David

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of mustard
  • 20 slices of turkey bacon
  • 5 Hebrew National Beef Franks

How to Make It

  • Cook turkey bacon and sausages on a skillet separately.
  • When both meats are lightly browned, place on a paper towel to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Cut sausages in half lengthwise. This will make wrapping the turkey bacon easier.
  • Wrap each sausage in turkey bacon, connecting them with more extra slices into the shape of a hexagram.
  • Outline the star with mustard and feast!

Eat up, guys. The next Thanksgivukkah (the happy occasion when Thanksgiving and Hanukkah happen to fall on the same day) isn’t for another 70,000 years. Check Out This Turkey, Cranberry and Sweet Potato-Stuffed Thanksgivukkah Dog

For those looking for something beyond the traditional Turkey this Thankgiving, check out Dog Haus’ latest offering. The Los Angeles (Pasadena, specifically) based hot dog concept debuted the Thanksgivukkah Dog topped with Tater Tots (lazily labeled as Jewish Latkes or potato pancakes so they could jump on the Thanksgivukkah bandwagon) and Apple Cranberry Sauce. The novelty dog comes served on a King’s Hawaiian Bun, and regardless of it’s faux Jewish theme, it still sounds pretty good.

The dog retails for $6.99. For those hankering for a pairing, try the Punkin’ Brewster Cocktail (hats off to the multiple puns) that includes Pumpkin Butter, Hausmade Pomegranate Grenadine, Buffalo Trace Whiskey, Angostura Bitters and Ginger Beer (only available at the Old Pasadena Location).

Turkey and Cranberry Stuffed Donuts for Thanksgivukkah

Zucker Bakery, go to your room and think about what you’ve done. What do you think you’re doing, putting TURKEY in a DONUT?

Thanksgiving and Hanukkah fall on the same date this year, and to commemorate, New York City’s Zucker Bakery decided to stuff the American Thanksgiving dinner inside a traditional Jewish sufganiyah. The pastries come in four varieties: spiced pumpkin-flavored, filled with turkey and gravy; spiced pumpkin, filled with turkey and cranberry; spiced pumpkin, filled with only cranberry; and sweet potato-flavored, filled with toasted marshmallow.

The promotional images are admittedly gorgeous, but we still can’t shake our utter bewilderment that such a combination actually exists.

Just tell us one thing, Zucker Bakery. Do you think this is a game? Do you not understand that the cronut (est. May — as in, six whole months ago — 2013) was a brilliant idea, but every Frankenfood/hybrid/creature-from-the-deep mash-up that’s followed since has at best paled in comparison, and at worst, committed all sorts of heinous sins against mankind? Do you not care about the children?
