Gordon Ramsay Admits He Cut The Line At Franklin’s BBQ And Got Away With It

Franklin’s BBQ is considered to be one of the best barbecue spots on the planet. It’s only natural that such a popular spot would have a line that lasts hours long. In fact, Franklin’s BBQ takes their patrons’ patience so seriously that they’re strict on cutting in line. A while back, Kanye West tried getting a pass at some of their BBQ and was told to wait his turn. Sorry, Yeezy.

However, during a late-night interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live, chef Gordon Ramsay revealed that he did get cuts at the iconic BBQ joint.

The reason, Ramsay gave, was that chefs tend to look after one another when it comes to these things. So he just hopped in through the back and got his BBQ fix without arousing any suspicion. Guess Kanye’s gotta start a new career in food if he wants to avoid that wait.

Ramsay did say that this dining experience was so good it was the first time he ever had to ask for a doggie back to take home from any restaurant. Sounds like our trip to Frankin’s is now long overdue.

While on the show, Ramsay also shared with the audience what his top 5 worst Halloween candies were.

There’s A Restaurant Devoted ENTIRELY To Fair Foods And It’s Inside A Walmart

Imagine if you didn’t have to wait for the fair every year; that there was a single place open 365 days that served nothing but fair foods. According to Dallas Morning News, that dream just came true. A Walmart in Plano, TX, will open the first-ever State Fair menu restaurant inside the store.

Set to open on September 20th, State Fair Treats will be the first in a region-wide expansion. The restaurant will be run by Isaac Rousso, an all-star veteran of the State Fair of Texas. State Fair Treats will feature an ambitious 45-item menu featuring classics you can only find at the annual event.

While the menu remains pretty secret, we can expect to see a fair amount of deep-fried foods.

Walmart is already known for housing fast-food chains like McDonald’s or Subway. Though they do sell state fair-like items like deep-fried Twinkies and Donut Cheeseburgers in their frozen food aisles, the new restaurant will be a sizable addition to the usual assortment of sit-in dining choices.

This MLB Player Earned Free BBQ For Life With A Single Punch [WATCH]

I’m not even a really big baseball fan, but I sure as hell might be after seeing Rougned Odor crack Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista in the face. That’s the kind of shit I live for.

Last year in game 5 of the 2015 American League Division Series against the , Bautista served up a three-run-homer at a pivotal time in the 7th inning. After cracking the baseball, he stared down the pitcher for a moment then flipped his bat up into the air as he and his teammates went jogging around the bases on their way to a win. This did not sit well with Rangers fans and players alike.

Well, last Sunday, Bautista was rounding the bases and slid dangerously into second basemen Rougned Odor. This, being a big “fuck you” in baseball, led to Odor first shoving Bautista then clocking him square in the jaw so hard that Bautista’s sunglasses went flying off of his face.

As I’m sure you can imagine, Texas fans LOVED this. They were so happy that Odor punched Bautista that one fan even started a GoFundMe page in order to raise enough money to pay for his fines. The uber fandom doesn’t stop there, however, as Odor had one more enthusiastic fan give him a deal nobody would be mad about.

Travis Heim, the owner of Heim BBQ in Fort Worth, Texas, publicly declared that Odor had earned himself a lifetime supply of BBQ from his joint, all thanks to the smackdown he doled out to Bautista. “We just thought it would be a funny thing if we gave Rougie free food because he wasn’t the only one who wanted to punch Bautista after last year,” said Heim to NBC 5 News.

Heim has even started selling t-shirts honoring the man and the moment Texas fans will internalize and remember for years to come, with at least 200 sold already in the past few days. Now he just prays that Odor doesn’t abuse his newfound privileges. “Hopefully, he doesn’t like barbecue too much, because then we might be in the red,” Heim said. “It’s just a fun deal, you know.”

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About 7-11 — But Were Afraid to Ask

7-11-01 “Open 24 Hours” may be the best three words in the English language. Photo: Justin Taylor

7-Eleven: Home to the Slurpee, questionably grilled meats, and 3 am toilet paper runs. Throughout its 88-year history, the company has ingrained itself into our culture, our neighborhood, and our clogged hearts.

But what do we really know about this pervasive business?

Who had the idea to start 7-Eleven?

7-Eleven began as a roll of the dice from Southland Ice Company founder Joe C. Thompson when an employee, John Jefferson Green, suggested the company should begin selling household staples like bread and milk in their Texas ice stores.

Jefferson kept his store open during evenings and Sundays and seeing its success, Thompson Sr. later adopted these hours throughout all of their locations. The company took a major hit during The Great Depression, but the end of Prohibition ultimately saved the company (because nothing stirs American wallets quite like easily accessible alcohol).

How did it get its name?

Originally, the stores were called Tote’m stores because customers would tote their purchases home. Many locations were decked out in Eskimo decor after Thompson visited Alaska because nothing draws customers in like a large totem pole in the middle of Texas.

In order to further differentiate themselves from grocery stores, Tote’ms opened at the scandalous hours of 7am to 11pm. In 1946, all Tote’ms became 7-Eleven’s in a massive, pre-television marketing move in order to promote their relatively revolutionary hours.

Well, when did they start opening 24/7?

Because of the most Texan reason possible: football. In 1963, the aftermath of a college football game in Austin kept the local 7-Eleven so busy, the store couldn’t close. Several locations experimented with 24/7 hours on the weekends until the entire chain realized how high demand was for life’s necessities (read: cigarettes and soda pop) in the middle of the night.

What’s the difference between an ICEE and a Slurpee ?

A powerful marketing team and a potentially addictive mystery ingredient (high fructose corn syrup or heroin, depending on the tongue color of who you ask). 7-Eleven’s notorious Slurpee was originally marketed as an ICEE, but the name and product was revamped after a couple of years to connect the syrupy frozen drinks directly to the chain.

With over 14 million sold per month, the Slurpee is the most popular beverage associated with 7-Eleven. Slurpees remain so beloved that people are willing to fill rice cookers with the brain-freeze-inducing beverage.

Is it a franchise or a just a chain?

7-Eleven is the (relatively) easiest franchise to purchase from a major chain. Up until the 2008 recession, 7-Eleven franchises were first class tickets to the American Dream for thousands of Southeast Asian immigrants. Today, 7-Eleven is one of the largest franchise companies in the world with over 56,000 stores in 18 countries. For reference, McDonald’s has a measly 35,000 restaurants worldwide.

Who signs the checks?

In order to save 7-Eleven from its second bankruptcy (still less than Donald Trump and the first occurred after The Great Depression), the Japanese company Seven & I Holdings acquired 7-Eleven. The move underscores Japan’s unparalleled love for 7-Eleven stores, one-third of which are densely packed throughout the small country.

7 Facts You Can’t Un-know

  • An unsettling, Illuminati-esque 666,000 pounds of glaze are used each month on 7-Eleven’s donuts, fritters, and other pastries.
  • If you watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, a 7-Eleven will have opened during the credits of each film.
  • 7-Eleven has the largest ATM network of any US retailer.
  • Most Slurpees are certified kosher because everyone should be able to enjoy their diabetes-inducing satisfaction.
  • In 1949, 7-Eleven’s made convenience store history with its punny commercial which featured the tagline “You Auto Know.” Unfortunately for them, Alanis Morissette hadn’t been born yet.
  • For 20 years, 7-Eleven has been giving American police departments millions of Slurpee coupons to dole out to upstanding youths during the summer.
  • One out of four of you are within a mile of a 7-Eleven.

Go now! Or whenever. It’ll always be open.

McDonald’s Is Stepping Up Its Fry Game With SWEET POTATO FRIES

Screen Shot 2015-10-22 at 2.41.32 PM

Burger King tried their hand at sweet potato fries. Hell, even Jack In The Box had some criss-cut sweet potato fries. Now McDonald’s is giving the fries a shot in Texas.

The fries can be found in restaurants across Amarillo, and according to a statement given to Eater, McDonald’s is “Gathering valuable customer feedback on them.”

Last time McDonald’s got positive feedback from a concept test, it led to all-day breakfast, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if we eventually see sweet potato fries on a national level, even if they’re just seasonal.

This isn’t the brand’s first encounter with sweet potatoes. In 2014, the golden arches had sweet potato wedges in Australia, which is almost the same thing.

Whether you’re a fan of sweet potato seasonal foods, or not, just be glad they’re not pumpkin spice fries.

After He Ate Her Ribs, This Man’s Sister Came At Him With A Butcher Knife

One’s barbecue dinner can be a very intimate experience. There’s nothing quite like the feel of soft warm BBQ sauce on your fingers as you nibble on a juicy piece of spare rib. For one woman in Texas, losing out on that experience was enough to go after her own brother.

Austin Police arrested 61-year-old Ethel Jean Banks with an aggravated assault charge for allegedly attacking her brother. The reason behind this attack? He ate her barbecue ribs.

Fox Baltimore reports that Banks took a butcher knife to her brother on the evening of Sunday, Sept. 27. When he spotted his sister coming at him, the victim booked it out of the house and called the cops.

Police arrived and arrested Banks who was also part of a similar incident a few months back.

In his defense, Banks’ brother says he didn’t know the ribs were hers.

Horrific Shootout At Sports Bar Chain Prompts The Restaurant’s Permanent Closure

A massive biker-gang fight at a Twin Peaks in Waco, Texas, left nine dead and 192 in police custody. The incident occurred Sunday, May 17 at the mountain-themed sport lodge and bar, closing it down in order for authorities to secure the scene. Turns out, Twin Peaks’ corporate office in Dallas has no plans to reopen the location.

The fight allegedly began over a parking spot during a recruitment for new gang members. Police were already on the scene to make sure nothing went wrong before the brawl started in the restaurant’s parking lot. What began as a heated argument quickly led to fists, knives, chains and guns being drawn.

Officers opened fire as things escalated. A total of nine gang members were killed, 18 hospitalized and 192 arrested once things came to an end. Luckily, no customers or bystanders were injured at all.

In a public statement, the company said that the management of the location chose to ignore warnings and advice from corporate and the local police and wanted to keep certain gang members around. Because of this, which presumably led to the horrific incident, the Waco location will be shut down and the franchise agreement will be revoked.

This 124-Pound Woman Just Set A World Record For Quickly Eating Steaks

Molly Schuyler is no stranger to steaks. A few years back, the 124-pound woman set a record for eating a Big Texan steak in less than 10 minutes. Now, she’s outdone herself with another record.

Schuyler has returned to the Big Texan in Armarillo, this time, to eat three steaks. No, really.

The competitive eater was served three steaks (4 1/2 pounds each), three shrimp cocktails, three baked potatoes, three bread rolls and three salads. What sounds like a meal for an entire family over the course of a few hours was consumed by Schuyler after only 20 minutes.

Breaking down the event, Schuyler ate the first steak in about 4 minutes, the second at 11 minutes and the third in 20. While she tried for a fourth, three turned out to be her limit. Though she did finish the sides.

Still, at three steaks, Schuyler broke the record at the Texas-based restaurant winning herself $6,000. The restaurant is famous for its steak challenge where patrons could attempt to eat a 72-ounce steak in under an hour. If they succeed, they eat for free.

Schuyler previously completed the challenge with two steak meals. Her recent accomplishment will be presented to the Guinness World Records.
