A Video Game About a Piece of Bacon Fighting Evil Was Green-Lit by Steam

Bacon-Man-Video-Game

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be a walking, humanoid piece of bacon that shoots from a toaster gun, is dressed like the American flag and battles other food-inspired characters, this is it. A video game is currently in development where the main character is a bacon-themed superhero who is fighting for his life.

Bacon Man is an action game that incorporates the nostalgia of the ’90s in the form of a side scroller, taking inspiration from classic titles like Mega Man X, Earthwork Jim and Rayman. The game is a combination of fighting, shooting and physics with the added charm of a porktastic protagonist. Because nothing says America like a piece of bacon dressed in red, white and blue.

The 3D-rendered world is inspired by the different food groups. Players begin in The Freezer and continue through the game toward the Meat Zone, the Dairy Zone, Pomegranate City, the deserts of Udon and Vegan Valley before arriving at the final level.

The story seems pretty solid too, in a Count of Monte Cristo kind of way. Bacon Man is framed by the Food Kings for the murder of Old King Roast Beef. It starts off with a prison break where Bacon Man travels through all the food worlds fighting to clear his name and exact revenge on those who framed him.

The project has been officially given the green light by Steam, a digital game distribution and social networking platform, and currently in development by Skymap Games. However, they’re still going through a round of funding.  At time of publication they’ve reached $3,731 of a $20,000 Kickstarter goal with 29 days left to go.

Way more thought out than potato salad.

Spider-Man Apron

New York Comic-Con Starts today!  In honor of this event, I’d like to share this spiffy Spider-Man apron with you.  While it’s probably too late to order one as a last-minute costume, you can wear it to tingle the spidey-senses and tastebuds of everyone who enjoys your cooking.

I have to admit, I am sometimes jealous of my Southern California-dwelling FOODBEAST counterparts.  Not only do they get to enjoy that lovely SoCal weather, and have access to the fabulous Orange County Fair, but they live a stone’s throw away from San Diego, home of the largest comic convention in America.  Like many geeks, I hope I will someday be able to nerd out at San Diego Comic-Con International.

But this weekend, New Yorkers get their own slice of the geeky pie, as New York Comic-Con takes over the Javits Center for four days.  For those of you not able to get your nerd on at Comic-con this weekend, please accept this apron as consolation. ($20.95 @ Neatoshop)

Marvel Superheroes Cakelet Pan

From the same folks who brought us the Spider-Man Comic Book Cookie Cutters, comes a pan to make tiny cakes that look like your favorite Marvel superheroes!  Each pan makes six cakelets: Captain AmericaThorIron ManSpider-ManWolverine and The Incredible Hulk.  Don’t worry about someone losing a nose when you remove them from the mold.  Thanks to the pan’s nonstick finish, the intricate details of each cakelet will remain intact.  Show off your comic book colorist skills by decorating their faces with icing for the finishing touch.  ($36.00 @ Williams-Sonoma)

Spider-Man Pancakes Pan

As a kid I never really got into superheroes, but if I had to choose one to be it would probably be Spiderman. Flying is cool and all but swinging would make me feel like tarzan which would be rad. This pan would have been perfect to have after watching all three Spiderman movies on tv the other day. It’s weird though the pan is non-stick and that isn’t very spidy-esk. (Thx IncredibleThings)
