Wendy’s Spicy Nuggets Officially Returning In August

Wendy’s is finally making good on their promise to bring back its spicy chicken nuggets, announcing that August 19 will be the day that fast food justice prevails.

Wendy’s promised fans that they’d bring back their beloved spicy nuggets, after Chance the Rapper made the request in early May.

It didn’t seem like a publicity stunt, but Wendy’s ran with it and tweeted at Chance saying, “The people in charge say if you guys can get our tweet to 2 Million likes, with will bring SPICY CHICKEN NUGGETS BACK.”

It seemed almost impossible, seeing how 2 million likes would be the all-time Twitter record, but spicy nugget fans were not to be underestimated. The goal was demolished in less than two days, and while a return date was not set at the time, they promised it was coming.

Chance the Rapper said he would be releasing his album on the same date as the nugget release, then started promoting a July album drop, leading many to believe the nuggets would follow that timeline.

Unfortunately, unless Chance changes his plans, the two summer drops will not coincide.

Wendy’s has gone as far as creating a Google Calendar invite link that fans can click on and save the date. It’s kind of cute, and honestly, I probably will be marking my calendar as an admitted spicy nugget fiend.

Wendy’s Spicy Nuggets Are Returning Thanks To Chance The Rapper

The random disappearance of Wendy’s spicy chicken nuggets was one of the more tragic moments in fast food history.

The nuggets were a clear fan favorite, and even Chance The Rapper felt the pain when they were discontinued.

Chance tweeted out Saturday, “Positive Affirmations for today: I WILL have a good day, I Will succeed today, Wendy’s WILL bring back spicy nuggets at some point please please Lord let it be today.”

Apparently Wendy’s is very much aware of our sentiments toward the spicy nuggets, and responded to Chance’s tweet, saying, “Y’all keep asking, so here’s your chance. The people in charge say if you guys can get our tweet (this one right here) to 2 Million likes, they will bring SPICY CHICKEN NUGGETS BACK.
Let’s freakin’ do this!”

Yes, the power was put in our hands, and with one 2 million likes achieved on the weekend tweet, Wendy’s will bring back its spicy nuggets.

Apparently, this whole time, all we needed was Chance The Rapper to speak up on the issue.

That two million “like” mark actually positioned Wendy’s in the top 5 all-time, with the likes of Barack Obama, Ariana Grande, and Ellen Degeneres, who famously tweeted out a superstar-filled selfie at the Oscars, to the tune of 2.3 million likes.

At least on Twitter, Wendy’s has promised their return. Now we just have to wait for an official date and time.

We did it, y’all. Good job. And thanks, Chance.

Burger King Trolls Wendy’s With Launch Of New Spicy Nuggets

Over seven months after Wendy’s removed spicy nuggets from their nationwide menu and took away my go-to road trip fuel, I’ve finally found a new source thanks to Burger King.

Burger King’s latest addition to the spicy chicken fast food menu comes in at $1.49 for ten spicy nuggets. In their press release, they claim to have released the nuggets because they “know there is an appetite for them” after seeing “competitors” have similar products. Based off of that, there’s no doubt that they were paying attention to the whole Wendy’s fiasco from earlier this year. If that wasn’t even more clear, their special campaign to promote the nuggets is a blatant shot at their fast food rival.

On October 13th, the same day that the nuggets launch, customers with the name Wendy who show valid ID at participating Burger King locations in Miami, Los Angeles, and New York will get a free 10-piece order after noon. Wendy’s face must have been as red as her hair when she saw that information go out.

Business Insider found the final nail in the coffin for Wendy’s on this debate. Burger King took out a full-page ad in the Miami Herald that promotes their new nuggets while brutalizing Wendy’s.

“(Yea, if your name is Wendy, we’re talking to you.) We’ve been listening. It sounds like you’ve been missing the spice in your life long enough.”

So far, Wendy’s has yet to respond to Burger King’s savagery.

Wendy’s Just Low-Key Pulled Their Spicy Nuggets Off Most Menus

A couple of weeks ago, I pulled into the Wendy’s by my apartment complex after a long road trip. I hopped out of my car, looking forward to a handful of spicy nuggets as a pick-me-up following the drive. I’ve always enjoyed Wendy’s spicy nuggets as a quick spicy snack, and six of them always hit the spot for under 2 bucks.

I was shocked to discover that the spicy nuggets weren’t on the menu at my Wendy’s, because I couldn’t recall hearing anything about the nuggets being pulled off of the menu. When I got back to my place, I dug around on the internet for a while to try and find answers about the nuggets, but there was no official release or any news on the nuggets anywhere.

Finally, I stumbled across a local news piece out of Ohio that gave me some answers. Turns out that Wendy’s has been pulling their spicy nuggets out of stores NATIONWIDE, and didn’t tell anybody about it.

I decided to reach out to Wendy’s myself to see if I could get any additional information, but didn’t get very far either. There’s not much information being released by Wendy’s regarding their removal of the spicy chicken nuggets, but here’s what I did get from an official representative of the fast food chain:

“Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets are available in select cities across the country, and the traditional Chicken Nuggets are still available at all Wendy’s restaurants. Customers who are fans of Spicy Chicken Nuggets can opt for our Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Wendy’s also recently added an Asiago Ranch Chicken Club that can be ordered Grilled, Spicy or Homestyle.”

Unfortunately, the spokesperson was unable to disclose a reason as to why the spicy nuggets were pulled in the first place.

UPDATE: However, Wendy’s did write a blog post recently regarding the departure of the spicy nuggets, and revealed that the nuggets can still be found in the following locations:

Austin, Dallas and Waco, Texas

St. Louis, Missouri

Chicago, Illinois

Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Here’s hoping they bring them back nationwide in the near future, I guess. I’ve got no choice but to look for some new post-road trip fuel in the meantime.
