Hummus Shakes Are A Thing Now And Are Looking To Be The Milkshake Alternative

So we’ve all had hummus, it’s the best alternative to a cheese dip for any party platter, or a great healthy late-night snack. For a while now it’s been coming up in popularity, we’ve seen hummus on burgers and even in burritos, but it wasn’t until I heard about a new shake coming from the east coast made up of hummus that my attention was really piqued.

The Hummus & Pita Co. is debuting an original and justifiably questionable new product called the Hummus Shake starting May 13.

Right off the bat it sounds like you’re gonna be sucking down a tub of Sabra. But never judge a book by it’s chickpea cover.

While the shake might look like a Frappuccino on the outside, inside is an entirely different beast.

Rather than being made up of fats and sugars like a regular shake, this one is a combination of basically the same ingredients as hummus, with added natural flavors.

Chickpeas, tahini, frozen bananas, dates, almond milk, a little pure vanilla, and cinnamon are all that this healthy little dessert consists of.

And no, it won’t taste like Sabra either. There’s a variety of flavors, just as with any other shake, like butter pecan, chocolate, pistachio, and strawberry.

The Hummus Shake is an all-natural vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free treat that boasts many health benefits, including high amounts of protein and fiber.

Though I haven’t had the pleasure of satisfying my curiosity and trying the shake myself, food bloggers have had a great time detailing their reviews of the shake.

One in particular, David White, said, “the simple ingredients and the health factor of each individual ingredient create a two-fold feeling of comfort and ease in knowing that what you’re ingesting is good-tasting with benefits that are also good for you.” You can read White’s complete review here.

Seeing as this is primarily in NYC, an apt comparison could be to the prominent Shake Shack with their frozen custards.

A normal serving of frozen custard at the Shack is going to clock in at around 600 calories, with a heap of sugar and fat indicative of a traditional milkshake.

While the sugar levels are too close to call, the Hummus Shake is blessed with all natural sugars.

If any of those details are still not enough to convince you to try the new hummus shake, here’s a bit of incentive: From now until 5/20 you can buy one shake and get another free at any Hummus & Pita Co.

So go out and try the shake, let us know what you think, and maybe it’ll end up being the new worthy shake of the summer.

It’s Your Lucky Day, McDonald’s Has Brought Back The Shamrock Shake

With St. Patrick’s Day coming closer, McDonald’s blessed the world by bringing back their Shamrock Shake on Feb. 21.

The shake hasn’t changed too much since it’s 1970 debut, still rocking the green hue and minty flavor we’ve come to love.

Last year, McDonald’s tried to shake things up by offering up different variations of the beverage, like the Chocolate Shamrock Shake, the Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappé, the Shamrock Mocha and the Shamrock Hot Chocolate.

Thankfully, the fast food giant didn’t inundate the classic with the unnecessary additions and let the Shamrock Shake shine on its own.

Obviously, this is a limited time release, and while it probably isn’t too hard to recreate on your own, any Instagram aesthetic is immediately beautified with the presence of this mint-green delicacy.

While many on Twitter are quick to push their hatred of the shake, Dixon Police comes through with the truth.

It’s the police. Listen to the police. Get a Shamrock Shake and stop being a Carl.

A post shared by Jamie J (@peacenlove0420) on

While most fast food chains are bringing in Pumpkin Spice beverages for the fall season, Arby’s seems to have taken a different approach. The quick-service sandwich company is rolling out a new milkshake that could easily change the frozen dessert game.

Arby’s new Cookie Butter Shake is made with cinnamon spice and topped with whipped cream and crushed cookie pieces, reports Brand Eating.

You can find the new Cookie Butter Shake available at participating Arby’s locations this fall. It will likely be available until the winter.

Birthday Cake Milkshakes Arrive At Jack In The Box

We’ve always been fond of the belief that birthday cakes can be enjoyed on any day of the year. Why should you be limited to one day? Also, why should cake be limited to one state of matter?

Jack in the Box has released a new milkshake to celebrate the iconic birthday cake in The Birthday Cake Shake.

Brand Eating reports that the new item is made with a vanilla ice cream that’s blended with birthday cake syrup. It’s then topped with whipped cream and multi-colored sprinkles.

The blended beverage is available at participating Jack in the Box locations for a limited time, possibly through the summer, and will be available in 16 and 24-oz servings. Prices may vary depending on the location.

We do not recommend you throwing birthday candles on this. That’ll just ruin a perfectly good milkshake.

Some east coast Burger King locations had apparently been testing the shake, as evident by the Instagram post above from Geneseo New York, so we knew that it was real, we just didn’t know if they were going to launch it nationally.

But it certainly is on its way, everywhere in the U.S., and we’ll all get a taste of its fruity goodness.

McDonald’s Designed A Milkshake ‘STRAW’ That Will Change The Way You Suck

A few weeks ago, McDonald’s announced that they were adding a brand-new line of Shamrock Shake-inspired drinks to their beverage menu. These included a Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappe, a Chocolate Shamrock Shake, Shamrock Hot Chocolate, and a Shamrock Mocha.

In a recent McDonald’s Facebook Live Stream, the fast food chain announced that they’ve been collaborating with two aerospace and robotic engineering companies (JACE and NK Labs) to elevate the simple straw into a new item they’re appropriately calling the “STRAW.”

The Suction Tube for Reverse Axial Withdrawal (or STRAW) is McDonald’s latest answer to the dual-layered Chocolate Shamrock Shake. It features a “J”-shaped design complete with well-placed holes for your milkshake to enter through.

When McDonald’s dropped their new Chocolate Shamrock Shake, customers would have to mix their beverage together if they wanted a combination of both chocolate and mint flavor. The STRAW’s design allows for both components to be sucked without having to mix the shake up.

Hot damn.

McDonald’s will be giving away 2,000 of these straws to fans across the United States. A list of participating McDonald’s locations that will have the STRAW on Feb. 24 can be found here.

Like last month’s 10,000 exclusive Big Mac Sauce bottles, the STRAWS will be available on a first come, first served, basis.

Watch Matt Stonie Devour 10 McDonald’s Quarter Pounders And A Shake

Professional eater Matt Stonie has yet to fail to impress me. The dude’s like a human fast food garbage disposal. In his latest video, Stonie swings by a McDonald’s and orders 10 Quarter Pounders with cheese, a large Diet Coke and a large Vanilla Shake.

Guess what he’s going to do with them?

In less than seven minutes, Stonie devours a meal designed for 10 people. That’s roughly 6,220 calories in one sitting. Personally, we think it’s much cooler when he shoots his eating videos on location. Kinda has a charm to it.

Check out the artery-clogging video. You’re gonna want to take an antacid after watching this.

Wienerschnitzel Adds Candy Cane Shakes To Squash That Chili Dog Breath

With Christmas only a few short weeks away, Wienerschnitzel just added a new holiday beverage to the menu. This comes in the sweet, colorful form of the Tastee Freez Candy Cane Shake.

Chili dog patrons can chug this to their heart’s content as they down hot dog after hot dog. The peppermint-flavored Freez is topped with whipped cream and served with a mini candy cane.

According to Wienerschnitzel, the Candy Cane Shake is supposed to compliment their chili dogs. Though, let’s face it, pretty much anything can compliment a chili cheese dog.

The holiday-edition beverage is only available for a limited time.
