You Can Now Drink Sangria-Flavored Vodka This Summer

UV Vodka has added a new drink to its selection in the form of UV Sangria. The new beverage is said to be the first sangria-flavored vodka in the market.

Made with natural flavors that include citrus and exotic fruits, the vodka sets itself up as a choice ingredient for cocktails. In a short promotional video, UV shows consumers how to make a quick summertime recipe involving the alcoholic beverage. All they’d really need is a bottle of the UV Sangria, some lemon-lime soda and citrus slices.

It definitely looks like UV took most of the work out of making a sangria. For that, we’re interested.

Keep an eye out for UV Sangria on retail shelves this summer.

The 10 Most Popular Cocktails You Googled This Year [DRINK]

As a personal challenge, I decided to see how many recipes for your top 10 most Googled cocktails could be found in Linda Doeser’s The Cocktail Bible, my go-to book for showing off at parties.

Though mostly filled with very specific cocktails your neighborhood dive bartenders will get annoyed attempting, the book contained eight of your most sought-after cocktail recipes this year.

To bring things back into the 21st century, video tutorials fill in the gaps Doeser left.

1. Margarita

1. Rub the rim of a chilled cocktail glass with the lime wedge and then dip in a saucer of coarse salt to frost.

2. Put the cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the tequila, triple sec and lime juice over ice. Shake vigorously until a frost forms.

3. Strain into the prepared glass.

2. Martini

1. Put the cracked ice cubes into a mixing glass. Pour the gin and vermouth over the ice and stir well to mix.

2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and decorate with a cocktail olive.

3. Sangria

4. Mojito

5. Mimosa

1. Pour orange juice into a chilled champagne flute, then pour in champagne.

6. Mint Julep

1. Put the mint leaves and sugar syrup into a small chilled glass and mash with a teaspoon. Add the crushed ice to fill the glass, then add the bourbon.

2. Decorate with the mint sprig.

7. Moscow Mule

1. Put 4-6 cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the vodka and lime juice over the ice. Shake vigorously until a frost forms.

2. Half fill a chilled highball glass with cracked ice cubes and strain the cocktail over them. Top off with ginger beer. Decorate with a slice of lime.

8. White (Cream) Russian

1. Put 4-6 cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour vodka, coffee liqueur and cream over ice. Shake vigorously until a frost forms.

2. Pour, without straining, into a small, chilled glass.

9. Long Island Iced Tea

1. Put 4-6 cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the vodka, gin, tequila, rum, creme de menthe, lemon juice and simple syrup over the ice. Shake vigorously until a frost forms.

2. Half fill a tall, chilled Collins glass with cracked ice cubes and strain the cocktail over them. Top off with cola and decorate with the lime or lemon wedge.

10. Tequila Sunrise

1. Put the cracked ice cubes into a chilled highball glass. Pour the tequila over the ice and top off with the orange juice. Stir well to mix.

2. Slowly pour in the grenadine and serve with a straw.

Notes: 1 part=1 ounce if doing a single serving and simple syrup is a boiled mixture of equal parts water and sugar.

Hello Weekend: Gummy Bear Sangrias

We did it. Labor Day feels like forever ago, but we’ve pushed through the past three grueling work days to find ourselves at the start of another weekend. Time to sleep, drink, and eat our weight in candy. And we just found an incredible way to do two of those things at once.

Drunken gummy bears are nothing new, but this Gummy Bear Sangria recipe takes the ratchet-y college staple and classes it up a bit with fresh fruit and wine. Simply place your gummy bears in a container with your alcohol of choice (this recipe calls for vodka, though spiced rum sounds good too), let them soak for at least 8 hours, strain, then pour over with chilled white wine, sparkling water, and apple juice. There’s truly no better way to say I’m an overgrown child AND a semi-functioning adult. You can even add the leftover strained-through vodka back to the sangria for an extra kick. Go on, you deserve it.

Peach Sangria Frozen Yogurt is Probably Delicious, Sadly Not Boozy

76_peach_sangria sorbetto_Shadow_resize

Popular east coast based fro-yo chain 16 Handles is launching a new Peach Sangria Sorbetto flavor in honor of the end of Summer. With the August heat on it’s way, this new flavor is for froyo lovers who have a “thirst for something a little more refreshing.”

Debuting as part of the chain’s Artisan Collection, the flavor is described as a fat free sorbetto with “the sweet taste of ripe peaches enhanced with fruity sangria flavor.” Before you head over to your neighborhood 16 Handles to get slizzered you should know that there’s probably not any actual alcohol in this frozen treat, so leave the wine glasses at home. I blame the kids.

If a frozen boozy beverage doesn’t float your froyo lovin’ boat you might want to check out the PB&J. This low-fat flavor brings your childhood to life with memories of raspberry jam getting cozy with some peanut butter.

Both flavors made their official debut this week and can be found at all 16 Handles locations.

Wine Study Reveals Daily Half of Glass Will Boost Life Expectancy

I’m sure this “study” will come as quite a subdued shocker to many of you who already knew that Red Wine and Cardiovascular health were intermingled in one way, shape or form. My father is definitely one of those people, but now, when people ask him and individuals like him about why he drinks half a glass of red wine a day, he now has a study to point to. From a research in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, using a case of 1,373 randomly selected men over the course of 40 years, have revealed that of the group, those men who only drank wine (and less than half a glass of it a day), “lived around 2.5 years longer than those who drank beer and spirits, and almost five years longer than those who drank no alcohol at all” ( For those who are in high spirits, remember with any substance, moderation is key! Without further ado, who’s down for some Sangria?!
