How to Make the Ron Burgundy Cocktail

will-ferrell-600x800

We all know that the day it opens, many of us will be lined up at movie theaters across the country, waiting to see the second installment of Ron Burgundy with Scotch in hand (or previously consumed). To get you ready for your big night, the guys and gals over at Great Ideas have teamed up to create the Ron Burgundy. Yes, it’s got plenty of Scotch, and it might just be your new favorite drunk drink.

Let us know if you would make this for movie night, and whether the name lives up to the legend that inspired it.

_____

The Ron Burgundy

What You Need

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 oz. Scotch (i.e. Famous Grouse)
  • ½ oz. fresh lemon juice
  • ½ oz. fresh grapefruit juice
  • 2 dashes peach bitters
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • Orange or lemon peel, for garnish

How to Make It

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat brown sugar and 1 cup water. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. In a shaker with ice, combine the Scotch, lemon and grapefruit juices, ½ oz. brown sugar simple syrup, and bitters. Shake vigorously and strain into a short glass with large ice. Garnish with an orange peel. (Leftover brown sugar syrup can be stored in a jar to use in future cocktails.)

Completely Real: Ron Burgundy Blended Scotch Whiskey

ron-burgundy-whisky

In anticipation for the upcoming film Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Rivera Imports is titillating us with Ron Burgundy Blended Whiskey. “Great Odin’s Raven Special Reserve” boasts a 40 percent ABV and a bold fruit flavor that probably goes great going down, down into your belly.

The 750 ml bottle packs a blend of Scotch whiskies from Speyside, Highlands, and Islay and is scheduled to hit stores this December. Not much else is said about the scotch whiskey other than “It’s Kind of a Big Deal” and sadly, there isn’t a retail price for Great Odin’s Raven yet. Of course, it’s not hard to assume die-hard fans will pay pretty much any asking price the company deems suitable. If it’s available soon, this could make one heck of a Christmas present.

Don’t act like you’re not impressed.

Ben & Jerry’s Ron Burgundy ‘Scotchy Scotch Scotch’ Ice Cream Arrives

scotchy-scotch-scotch-ice-cream

In the fine words of Ron Burgundy:

“I love scotch. Scotchy scotch scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly.”

There are few things better. Except of course, mixing scotch with ice cream. Which is why Ben and Jerry’s wins at life for releasing their new Run Burgundy-themed flavor, titled, of course, “Scotchy Scotch Scotch,” to promote the upcoming Anchorman 2. It’s kind of a big deal.

The flavor consists of butterscotch ice cream with butterscotch swirls. We’re a bit disappointed there’s no actual scotch in the recipe, but we’re sure that can be remedied by curling up with a bowl of ice cream next to some leather bound books, our favorite lamp, and some riveting Panda watch.
