Pho-Stuffed Pies Are Just One Of The Crazy Inventions At This Food Festival

As a key part to the flourishing and Instagram-friendly food scene in Orange County, Costa Mesa is home to a plethora of unique, creative, and delicious restaurants. Nearly every one of them will be putting their best eats and drinks on display for a single weekend.

On October 19-21st, the Los Angeles Times and Travel Costa Mesa will host The Taste Costa Mesa, where the city’s top restaurants all gather together for a massive foodie experience. Hosted at The MET in Costa Mesa, there will be live cooking demos from big-name chefs, entertainment, and unlimited tastings to all of the food on offer.

Everybody from the city’s hottest and newest spots to names established in Costa Mesa’s dining scene will be present. This includes Toast Kitchen & Bakery, a new kid on the block whose innovative pot pie menu has got the streets buzzing. Be sure to look out for their Pho Pot Pie, which is stuffed to the brim with noodles.

Other featured spots include Pie Not, an Australian-style pie shop that brings both savory and sweet versions to the table. Their meaty mini pies are one of the must-try items when stopping by.

Tons of other popular restaurants from around Costa Mesa will be at this foodie-centric festival. From poi malasadas from Fill to figs and burrata from Social Kitchen & Craft Bar, you can expect everything you bite into to be innovative, Instagrammable, and delicious.

Tickets are available for each day of The Taste on the festival’s website. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all feature different restaurants, so check out the lineups to make sure you get to try the spots you want to.

This Baker Creates Stunning Custom Pies Like You’ve Never Seen Before

If you close your eyes and take a bite of a warm pie, a nostalgic feeling can reverberate through your body.  Well, this baker can give you that same nostalgic feeling, but through the visual appeal alone of her stunning custom pies.

Jessica Leigh Clark-Bojin is elevating the art of pie baking, and taking it to levels you’d normally see with cakes or other desserts.

With every new post on her Instagram account, you’re sure to be wide-eyed and shocked by the detail and creativity that goes into each pie.

A post shared by Pies Are Awesome (@thepieous) on

Pies are known as for having flaky, doughy flat tops, but clark-Bojin does not limit herself to those specifications. Not only does she draw pop culture characters on the pie surfaces, she also brings the baked goods to life with 3D, in-your-face, sculpture-like pies.

A post shared by Pies Are Awesome (@thepieous) on

She doesn’t keep her pie-sculpting secrets to herself either, as she puts together tutorials on how to try to make these pietraits on your own, and even wrote a book on the art of pie modeling.

Not sure if I have the steady hand, or patience to make beautiful pie art, but if you think you have it in you, definitely give it a shot.

Check out some of Jessica’s notable pies from her @thepieous Instagram page:

Getting Dessert Wasted With Pie Shots At This ‘Bar’ Are Our Idea Of A Good Time

Alright nerds! Its 3.14, and that means National Pi Day is here once again! Since it seems that we missed the actual ‘National Pie Day’ (which was on January 23rd), today will have to do!

If you’re anything like us, and getting pie wasted sounds like a fantastic way to spend an evening, then The Pie Bar, located in the heart of downtown Long Beach, CA, might be your next favorite dessert dive. It’s always a good idea to make friends with the ‘bartender’ and get a shot of your favorite pie flavors. They also offer flights, if your craving won’t be satisfied with just one kind of pie.

A post shared by Jacob Walker (@worldwide843) on

All handmade and baked fresh daily, The Pie Bar has pies in all sizes. Every month, they cycle through different flavors like Irish Cream Pie, Chocolate Stout Pie, Apple Pie, American… Pie (kidding). But in all seriousness, these pie shots are a great substitution for for those who are in a non-committal relationship with their dessert. Because that’s us.

McDonald’s Is Serving BUTTER CHICKEN PIES In New Zealand

McD-Meat-Pies

If you’re a fan of savory pies, McDonald’s New Zealand’s got you. The fast food chain is introducing new Butter Chicken Pies based on the popular Indian dish of butter chicken.

There’s also a new Plum ‘N Custard Pie that’s filled with sweet plums and a custard filling. Both pies are made with a Georgie’s Pie pastry and served as hand-held treats.

New Zealand’s two new pies will only be available for a limited time. Avid patrons might remember a similar Steak Mince ‘N Cheese Pie from a few years back.

Ninja Bear Breaks Into Bakery, Avoids All Cameras And Eats 38 Pies

14113859279l2ie

This bear was living the thug life to its fullest, breaking into a Colorado bakery and downing 38 pies.

According to Fox31, the bear broke the back window and climbed into the Colorado Cherry Company, where he proceeded to gobble down 24 cherry pies, 14 apple pies, a sack of sugar and baking cocoa.

This wild bear, literally, tried to take off with some to-go boxes, but dropped them in front of the store on his way out.

The clever bear even avoided security cameras somehow, which is unfortunate for him, because the fridge in the camera’s view had a ton of pies he could have gobbled up.

Of course, Colorado is known for its legalization of marijuana, but there was no evidence that this sneaky bear-thief was intoxicated with a serious case of the munchies.

Pumpkin Pies Make a Limited Return to McDonald’s

McD-Pumpkin-Pies

With Thanksgiving coming up and pumpkin products filling up every fast food menu, McDonald’s is returning a fan-favorite, the Pumpkin Pie, to their restaurants. A pumpkin-flavored pie? Now this pumpkin thing has really jumped the shark. Next thing you know, they’ll come up with something ridiculous like a burger made with ramen noodles.

McDonald’s is known for their turnover-esque pies, each with a different filling and a cinnamon-sugar pastry. At 240 calories, the Pumpkin Pies are sold for around 89 cents each. They’ll be available presumably through the end of the Thanksgiving holiday at select McDonald’s stores. Prices, however, may vary depending on location.

Looking forward to it as the pumpkin is one of their better promotional pies. Sorry, cherry.
