Chipotle Founder Developing Asian Fast-Casual Concept?

Steve Ells, CEO and Founder of the wildly successful Chipotle Mexican Grill chain has been anything but silent and behind the scenes lately. With the launch the NBC show America’s Next Great Restaurant starring a host of celebrity personalities alongside Ells is one of four celebrity personalities and investors who will decide which winning restaurant idea they will put their money into.

Apart from the show, an NRN article has revealed Ells possible ideas for opening an Asian fast-casual restaurant utilizing similar pricing, ingredient integrity, and general modeling that has made Chipotle so successful in the past.

Top 500 Restaurant Chains Experienced Rebounding Growth Rates in 2010

Technomic has just released an Annual Report detailing the growth rates of the top 500 largest restaurant chains in the U.S. The report compares annual sales between the years of 2009 and 2010, noticing a 1.8 percent increase in annual sales into 2010. Systemwide sales for the top 500 chains increased over $4 billion from 2009, reaching an estimated $234 billion in 2010.

Panda Express Reveals “Golden Treasure Shrimp”

Panda Express looks to celebrate the beginning of March with a launch of their new entrée item, Golden Treasure Shrimp. The dish is made with crispy tempura shrimp, red and green bell peppers wok-tossed in Panda’s new zesty citrus sauce. As has become customary with new Panda Express menu offerings, the chain is offering up a free single serving of the new Golden Treasure Shrimp on March 9, 2011, though the item will see a nationwide debut on March 2nd. Panda Express: New Kobari Beef Menu Item

Beginning today, Wednesday September 22nd, Chinese Fast Food chain Panda Express will intrdouce a new “Kobari” beef to its menu, with reps calling it a “sweet, smoky and spicy” Korean BBQ addition to the menu. The dish utilizes slies of marinated tri-tip beef that has been tossed with wok-seared mushrooms, freshly cut leeks, crunchy onions, and crispy red bell peppers.

With the introduction of a new Honey Walnut Shrimp, we get to taste afresh tempura shrimp that’s wok-tossed in a gourmet honey sauce and further topped with glazed walnuts. Walking around the fair yesterday I saw a Panda Express booth and it almost seemed out of place to me. But then I remembered no matter how many crazy and good tasting foods there are at the fairgrounds, sometimes a person just wants some good ol’ orange chicken and where better to get it at then Panda Express. I usually serve mine up with a whole bunch of a chow mein and teriyaki chicken with sauce.
