New App Brings Home-Cooked Meals From Chefs To Your Stomach

Good home cooking can be incredibly difficult to find. A new app called “Foodie Shares” knows that sometimes home-cooked meals are preferable to eating out. That’s why it lets you order food from home chefs to eat at your pleasure.

Like Uber and AirBnB, Foodie Shares does a background check on all the home cooks on the app. Customers can then browse through the various dishes and chefs, order what they want, and either have their meals delivered or go pick them up. The chefs decide what they want to charge for their meals, so prices vary depending on customers’ choices.

So far, Foodie Shares is only active in the Santa Monica and Venice Beach areas of California. However, they have plans to expand their services this summer.

While it looks like this is the perfect place to find a home-style meatloaf or other comfort foods, it features more contemporary dishes to choose from as well.

Foodie Shares can be downloaded through the App Store for free.

This App Finds All the Girl Scout Cookies in Your Area

Girl Scout Cookies are pure, evil genius. They’re obviously fantastic and proceeds go to a great cause, but they’re also incredibly addicting. When selling season comes around, I hoard those suckers. If you’re in the same boat and like to stockpile all the Thin Mints and Samoas you can get those hands on, then download the Girl Scout Cookie Locator app.

Need to know where the closest selling station can be found? This app has got you covered. All you do is click the “Find Cookies Nearby” button or type in your location and voila! — a list of sweets spots pops up.

As of right now, the app is only available for iPhone users.

Sure, this can be dangerous to any diet, but it’s so worth the cookie comas. And supporting local Girl Scout troops, of course.

Start your Engines, You Can Now Lease the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

The Oscar Meyer Wienermobile is up for grabs, at least temporarily.  As the first vehicle for “lease” exclusively on Twitter, the Weinermobile will be someone’s personal getaway car  for a day.  By tweeting the hashtag #Tweet2Lease, the lucky wiener (I’m sorry, I couldn’t help it) will get access to the “27-foot long hot dog on wheels,” with personal chauffeurs ready to whisk you way.

The contest runs through February 7, after which a winner will be selected and the “lease date” will be picked.  To sweeten the deal, you not only get to drive around in a giant hot dog, you get a wad of $500 to pad your pockets. Definitely not mad at that.

McDonald’s Makes Fast Food Faster, Experiments with Mobile Ordering App

If waiting at the drive-thru or in line at any of the three local McDonald’s in your neighborhood just isn’t getting you your fast food fast enough, have no fear.  McDonald’s is testing a new mobile payment app, which will allow you to order ahead and pick up your food at drive-thru windows or inside the restaurant.

Chipotle already has a mobile ordering app, and Burger King even offers delivery, if you’re willing to spend a minimum of $10. McDonald’s will feature special offers, coupons, and a loyalty rewards program.  If we truly are moving towards a “cashless society,” as Bob Goldin, the executive vice president at Technomic Inc., says, then this might be the way to go.

Would you be willing to download or use the app? Let us know in the comments.
