McDonald’s Controversial New Soda Ad Never Once Mentions ‘McDonald’s’

That place where Coke tastes SO good.

McDonald’s has recently begun promoting the return of $1 any sized drinks at participating United States locations.

In a couple 30-second promos actress Mindy Kaling hypes up a place “where Coke tastes so good.” While she doesn’t flat-out say McDonald’s, she tells viewers to do a quick Google search of her exact phrase.

That one step of Googling is intended to pique the viewers’ interest as to what this place that serves great-tasting Coca Cola is.

A quick Google search told us that the place, in fact, was McDonald’s. Though shame on us for not reading fellow Foodbeast and Spanish Seductor Supreme Isai Rocha’s piece on why McDonald’s Coke tastes so good from a few months back.

Unfortunately, the ads have been met with some negative reactions, collecting hundreds of dislikes. The yellow dress on a red background was a nice touch though.

So what do you think about McDonald’s latest attempt at promoting themselves through subtle cues and general curiosity? Was it worse than what Burger King did with Google phones?

Mindy Kaling Now Has Her Own Sriracha-Drenched Umami Burger

Umami-Mindy

Umami Burger is teaming up with comedic genius Mindy Kaling to create a burger: The Mindy Burger. Kaling is probably best known for her role as Kelly Kapoor on NBC’s award-winning comedy The Office and, more recently, Mindy Lahiri on The Mindy Project.

The Mindy Burger is made with pickled jalapeños, fried onion strings and a house-made Sriracha aioli on a beef patty. It’s served on Umami’s famous bun.

“I love Umami and I was so honored to be able to create my own burger. Spicy and cheesy, it reflects my own personality,” Kaling said.

The burger isn’t for show, either. For every one sold, a dollar will go towards The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Through research, patient support and community outreach, the Pancreatic Cancer Network has set a goal to double pancreatic  cancer survival by 2020.

Available Sept. 1, the burger will be available at all participating Umami Burger locations for $13.

Celebrating Fourth of July: Expectations vs. Reality

smores

Independence Day in America is one of those rare holidays that doesn’t seem to exist just to make people buy things. Sure, you’ve got all the fireworks kiosks. And yes, they don’t just give away all that patriotic tablewear and those hot dogs and grilling utensils for free. But mostly it’s about eating well, sitting back and enjoying each other’s company. Except when it’s about burning in the summer sun. Or suffering from food poisoning. Or being too hungover to work because this stupid holiday just had to fall on a weekday.

Ah well, at least we have the freedom to gripe about it together. ‘MURICA.
