Chipotle Gets First Price Hike in 3 Years, Here’s What That Means For You

chipotle-price-hike

Chipotle has announced that they’ll be raising their prices by 3% – 5% per menu item starting in the next few weeks. This will be their first price increase in three years.

According to Chipotle Chief Financial Officer John Hartung, the price of steak has increased 25 percent in the past three months. Additionally, cheese and pork prices are also said to increase this year.

Overall, Chipotle did pretty well for the quarter. The company reported a profit of $83.1 million compared to $76,6 million a year earlier and revenues jumped 24% to $904.2 million. They also have plans to open 180-195 more locations this year. However, executives say that rising food costs are taking a hit on their profits, so they need to raise their prices.

So you guys better hurry up and head to your nearest Chipotle while those prices last!

The McPoutine and 24 Other Foreign McDonald’s Menu Items We Need Stateside, STAT

mcdonalds feature

People tend to get mad when any U.S.-based food news source covers menu items from other countries, but here’s the thing: it’s not that we’re trying to be irrelevant to you. It’s just that everywhere else has better stuff.

Take McDonald’s for instance. For most healthy, red-blooded Americans, the most we can look forward to is the McRib in fall and the Shamrock Shake in spring. But in Canada, they have the McLobster and McPoutine. In Asia, they have the Cheese Katsu burger and in England they have the McBacon Roll. McBacon! Seriously how have we need adopted this thing yet?

The following infographic designed by medicalinsurance.org outlines some of the best McDonald’s menu items from abroad, though it’s far from comprehensive.

Not listed here, as Gizmodo readers were quick to point out, were Korea’s Bulgogi burger, Hong Kong’s Crayfish Bisque, France’s McBaguette and the Philippine’s Twister Fries, among other things.

Still, why we can’t have McSpaghettis or McHotdogs here, even as just a test item, is beyond me.
