Italian Burrito Swaps Rice With Pasta Noodles


From the ramen burger to the cronut to the new concrete at Shake Shack, it’s clear we love our hybrid foods. And now, the next contender for our hearts has arrived: the Italian Burrito.

The burritos can be found at Burrisimo, a casual Italian restaurant in Brea, near Los Angeles. And while the process of making one of these monsters is similar to what you’d see at Chipotle, what goes inside is an entirely different pot of sauce.

Pasta (instead of rice) is wrapped up with grilled chicken, steak, meatballs, or salmon, and tossed with onions, peppers, and pasta sauce. It all gets contained by an organic flatbread, the Italian answer to a tortilla.

The menu also features two “favorite” burritos. One is made with chicken, angel hair, and divalo sauce, while the other has steak, sautéed veggies, mozzarella, and pomodoro.  Can someone please send me one molto rapidamente?

What makes this dish timeless is its simplicity and ability to be made in a variety of innovative ways (see: Pizzaghetti). Of course, leave it to  Nick at Dude Foods to bring this classic eat to a new level of delicious with his Deep-Fried Spaghetti and Meatballs.

It all starts with a cube of mozzaralla wrapped with spaghetti noodles, which is then packed inside a meat orb and baked to perfection. But it doesn’t stop there — Nick deep fried these bad boys and topped ’em with marinara sauce and Parmesan. OH, baby.

Slim Jims Get Transformed into Meatball Cake Pops

Forget about spaghetti-stuffed meatballs (even though they’re crazy delish), because we’ve discovered a mega curveball in this tasty game. George Duran of YouTube’s Hungry concocted a variety made from Slim Jims. Genius? Aww yeah.

Besides being a handy option for eating meat on-the-go, who knew SJ’s could be eaten any other way?! George did. The niblets are a mixture of eggs, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, parsley, pork sausauge and, of course, Mr. Slim Jim.

So whether you’ve got a few extra snack packs laying around, or you don’t want to spring for a super expensive slab of meat, Slim Jims could be the key to tonight’s gourmet-esque dinner.

Dove Chocolate Reveals a New Sweet ‘N’ Smoky Chocolate BBQ Sauce

During a recent chocolate get-together here in Orange County, we were turned on to the new flavors being brought forth by the Dove Chocolate team. Get this, they now have a Sweet ‘N’ Smoky Chocolate BBQ Sauce, put together with molasses, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, champagne vinegar, tomatoes and a “sinful spice blend.”

Here’s a shot of them used on some delicious meatballs. That’s right, chocolate meatballs:

The sauce is perfect for dipping, brushing and slathering. Can you imagine a rack of ribs with a punch this sweet and savory? ($12 @ DoveChocolate)



Applebee’s Launches New Menu Items – Stacked, Stuffed & Topped

Casual Dining Chain Applebee’s is launching a new menu platform this week entitled Stacked, Stuffed & Topped which includes new steak, pasta and salad offerings. The new menu items start at $9.99.  The newest items include the Florentine Topped House Sirloin, Chicken Parmesan Stack, Stuffed Meatballs & Mozzarella Scoops Appetizer and the Bruschetta Topped Chicken Salad. These menu items join the already existing Provolone-Stuffed Meatballs with Fettucini (pictured below).

Applebee’s has been consistently revamping its menu, with representatives claiming that more than 80 percent of its menu has been updated or improved in the last 18 months. The chain also released their New Summer Cocktails recently.

Spaghetti and Meatball Pizza

On a recent visit to Palermo’s Pizzeria & Cafe our friend Nick decided to UP his Foodbeast game by ordering up their Spaghetti and Meatball Pizza. The pizza consists of a hand tossed crust with chunky tomato sauce, a blend of Mozzarella & Provolone cheeses, spaghettini, meatballs and sprinkled with Parmesan & Romano cheese. I never thought spaghetti on a pizza would look so appetizing, but I guess when it’s fresh…it’s just another layer of deliciousness. Count me in!


Meat Salad: Salad Made Entirely of Meat

Epic Meal Time, every Tuesday. This time around we are granted a look at a salad, made entirely of meat, and tipping the scale at 2,096 grams of fat and 28,031 calories. The salad makes use of Flank Steak Lettuce, Spicy Pepperoni Carrots, Meatball Radishes, Tomato Salami, Chicken, Pork Croutons, Beer Bacon Bits and a healthy dose of Creamy Beer Bacon Dressing. Next week? Apparently these guys are eating sporks…


Applebee’s New Fettuccine and Ravioli

Applebee’s is hitting the Italian game strong and is coming in hot with these two new pastas! Their new Provolone-Stuffed Meatballs with Fettuccine and Florentine Ravioli with Chicken look delicious to say the least! The meatballs are braised with rich marinara sauce with a hint of crushed red pepper for an added zing! The ravioli dish is packed with grilled chicken, spinach and ricotta-stuffed half-moon ravioli in a roasted garlic Alfredo sauce with sautéed mushrooms, bruschetta and red onions! O yeah, and they are both served with toasted garlic bread! Mama Mia!
