Kraft Kicks Off Fall With Pumpkin Spice Mac & Cheese In Canada

Photo courtesy of Kraft Heinz Canada

As summer comes to an end, everyone is gearing up for the fall season and, with that, comes the infamous Pumpkin Spice-themed foods and drinks. Yep, it’s that time again, folks.

This year, however, Kraft Dinner is offering Canadians a new take on the seasonal flavor in the form of a Pumpkin Spice Macaroni and Cheese dinner box.

Made with the same cheese powder base many of us grew up on, the new mac and cheese adds the fall flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger. The result is a spicy and cheesy dinner treat.

Those all about pumpkin spice can sign up for a waitlist, and 1,000 lucky Canadians will be able to get their hands on a box of the new mac as well as some swag for free.

Everyone else, it seems, will have to wait until October to try it out.

KFC’s Mac And Cheese Can Be Ordered By The Bucket, Seriously

If you’re a fan of KFC’s Mac and Cheese, or just looking to order a whole bunch for a family dinner, you should know that it’s possible to get KFC Mac and Cheese buckets.

This was confirmed by TikToker Allen Ferrell, known for submitting ridiculous orders in drive-thrus and seeing if he can get away with it. One of his fans challenged him to order an entire bucket of KFC’s cheesy pasta, and staffers at the location he went to obliged.

A typical KFC bucket can hold up to 16 pieces of fried chicken, which translates to a hefty quantity of macaroni and cheese that can fit inside.

Ferrell ended up paying $19.99 for the bucket, which came out to about $21 after taxes. He later mentioned that he ate the whole bucket, which, to be honest, I don’t blame him for.

A “Bucket-Size” offering isn’t on KFC’s official menu for online ordering, but apparently there is a system in place to charge someone for it if they do get some.

Foodbeast has reached out to KFC to see if this is something that can be ordered commonly, and are waiting to hear back.

At the very least, it’s possible to order while going through the drive-thru.

Could Macaroni And Cheese Be The Next Big Breakfast Food?

Macaroni and cheese has long been a favorite comfort food in the United States. Boxed mac dinners, scratch made, it’s all been a tasty pasta dish that we’ve loved to tuck into for dinner, lunch or a quick snack.

As the pandemic has ravaged across the nation, however, data has begun to suggest that mac and cheese has also become a bigger part of our breakfast routine.

Kraft, for example, conducted a survey amongst 1,000 adults and found that over half of them had given their kids mac and cheese for breakfast more often during the pandemic.

Data from Tastewise, an AI platform that analyzes patterns around food on the internet, has also found mentions of mac and cheese for breakfast or brunch climb by 50% over the past year.

Foodbeast has also taken notice of some mac and cheese breakfast items that have popped up in various restaurants. The Southern California chain Breakfast Republic, for example, has a skillet of breakfast mac, topped with eggs and bacon, on their menu.

Other restaurants, like The Row in Nashville, Homeroom in Oakland, and Ritual in Houston, also carry similar items in their list of breakfast offerings, whether it be on their regular menu or as a special.

So, could macaroni and cheese be starting to grow in popularity as a breakfast item? The above definitely suggests otherwise, even if other data indicates that a majority of folks haven’t heard too much of it yet.

Foodbeast has been surveying some of our own audience, and across over 1,400 people asked on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, only about 38% had heard of or tried a breakfast mac and cheese dish before. Additionally, data from Tastewise notes that of over 500,000 restaurants in their set, no more than a few hundred have the item somewhere on their menu.

This means that there’s plenty of room for breakfast mac to catch on, should people desire it. Personally, I wouldn’t mind digging into a few bowls of it with some oozy eggs for breakfast.

MAC ON TAP: Stouffer’s Unveils Mac & Cheese Tap Pour Prototype

At bars and convenience stores alike, you can find some interesting things on tap beyond beer and wine. Kombucha, nacho cheese, and chili are just some of the dispensers out there today.

Stouffer’s has made an addition to that lineup of out-there food dispensing gadgets with a tap that pours mac & cheese on anything you can imagine.

The gadget appears to be in its final phases of testing and perfecting, but Stouffer’s has built one out that they’re ready to share with the masses. How they manage to get the pressure to dispense creamy, rich mac and cheese, I don’t know, but to be able to pour out something that viscous from a dispenser is quite impressive.

Stouffer’s has yet to announce where they will be rolling this device out at, instead calling on folks to let them know on social media where they should set one of these mac and cheese “taps” up at.

This is still a prototype that hasn’t been fully unveiled, so we don’t know exactly how viable it is yet. However, if it lives up to the hype, hopefully there’s an eventual at-home purchase option too. I could see myself smothering many a food item with some custom mac if possible.

LA Meal Kit Program Creates Curbside Souplantation Experience As A Final Goodbye

The closure of every Souplantation restaurant around the country took us by surprise a few weeks ago as many of us have nothing but fond memories at the health conscious buffet. Truly heartbreaking stuff amid this pandemic.

As a bittersweet ode to Souplantation closing down, the team over at Korean restaurant Seoul Sausage has created a first and last-ever curbside Souplantation experience.

On Friday May 22, the team will be packaging together a spread reminiscent of all things Souplantation is fondly remembered for, including their soups, pastas, salads, pizzas, potatoes, and even right down to their blueberry muffins.

Downtown Los Angeles’ Seoul Sausage is known for doing weekly meal kits and collaborations under their #FoodEqualsFamily program that range from Korean BBQ Kits to Hawaiian meals presented as “to go” experiences.

You can check out the one-day curbside experience Friday, May 22. For those interested in being a part of this final Souplantation experience, you can buy your tickets though the Seoul Sausage website here.

8 Foodbeast-worthy Restaurants And What To Order In Aspen, CO

Aspen, the stunning mountain town in Colorado, can be quiet at times. This doesn’t mean the restaurant scene cannot boast a formidable roar when it comes to mouthwatering eats.

Java Monster fueled us up as we took a culinary tour through some of the best eats Aspen Colorado had to offer. Whether you’re visiting to get a lung-full of the fresh mountain air or eager to see the world famous Winter X-Games, you have to keep yourself charged. You just have to know where to look.

Check out this list below of MUST-TRY spots in the stunning mountain destination. This list is powered by our earnest recommendations of places that are delicious, in a beautiful backdrop, that won’t break the bank.

Butcher’s Block

There’s nothing that will warm you up like a hearty sandwich, and Butcher’s Block’s famous meatloaf sandwich doesn’t get any heartier in Aspen. It features your choice of bread (I strongly recommend the French Roll) and is loaded with mayo, mustard, lettuce, and tomato. The meatloaf itself combines juicy pork and beef along with a medley of spices coming together to form a unity of flavor in your mouth.

CP Burger

Anyone looking for a bit of casual recreation in the city can stop into CP Burger. The fast-casual burger shop serves up not only mouthwatering gourmet burgers, but also hot dogs, fries, and Spiked Shakes that will warm you up in the middle of winter.
The restaurant also features Aspen’s only outdoor skating rink. When the season heats up, the rink transforms into a mini-golf park. Activities galore!

Home Team BBQ

Home Team is a local spot on Buttermilk Range with a cozy interior and some legit barbecue. The habanero jelly and creamy white Alabama sauce with their wings are a winner. They also fuse together barbecue and brunch or breakfast, with items like a brunch burger, BBQ breakfast burritos and enchiladas, and more on the menu.

Hops Culture

You don’t have to go camping to enjoy s’mores. In fact, Hops Culture bar serves up a tableside s’mores platter that takes the camping experience straight to the bar, letting you enjoy some craft brews all while getting your childhood fix of graham crackers, chocolate, and roasted marshmallows in a casual setting.

Meat & Cheese Restaurant

Rich artisanal cheeses, savory meats, and bread so fresh you can smell it from a block away. Meat & Cheese specializes in a variety of boards, and one of their most popular ones draws its name from the restaurant itself: The Meat and Cheese Platter. Great for small groups to share, once you crush the entire platter, you can walk it off inside the farm shop and peruse through their selection of speciality charcuterie, cheeses, seafood, soups, and sauces.

Paradise Bakery & Cafe

Paradise bakery makes a ton of baked goods, from stuffed croissants to freshly made cookies. If you’re looking for some frozen treats on the mountain, the affogatos are a must! They can be made with any of Paradise’s ice cream flavors, such as birthday cake, acting as a creamy companion for your coffee.

Su Casa Mexican Restaurant

For anyone trying to find shelter from the icy weather, Su Casa Mexican Restaurant specializes in a pretty fiery dish. Called the “Crazy Pig,” this seafood dish is served inside a whimsical pig-shaped molcajete and filled with a red tomatillo sauce, scallops, mussels, cheese, and garnished with fried shrimp. A little latin heat to this chilly hamlet.

The Red Onion

One of the oldest bars and restaurants in Aspen, The Red Onion has been around since 1892. A stunning establishment, the building boasts a gorgeous Victorian aesthetic that’s been gradually updated through the ages.

On the menu you’ll find American classics like the Colorado Burger, as well as The Red Onion’s popular customizable Mac and Cheese. Seriously guys, you can load this plate of mac up with all your favorite meats: bacon, shrimp, or even pulled pork and top them with roasted jalapenos.

According to owner Brad Smith, The Red Onion serves more Coors Banquet than any other single outlet in the country.
