This Bento Box Shaped Like a PS3 Sadly Doesn’t Play Any Games

Imagine, you’re sitting on the playground getting ready for lunch when you whip out this little beauty: a bento lunch box designed to look like a PS3. You watch as your classmates’ eyes widen in awe, then eventually crinkle in sadness when they finally realize that no, your mom didn’t let you bring your console to school, and even if she did, you wouldn’t have any TV out here to play it on anyhow.

And then everyone continues on with life as usual. The end.

Anticlimactic fairy tales aside, Sony is launching its new bento design in commemoration of its popular Final Fantasy and Metal Gear game series. The work required to create the masterpiece involved a laser cutting machine, traditional Japanese woodwork and a lacquer treatment in Kyoto — ooh, ahhh.

S’far as we can tell, the PS3 bento isn’t available for sale just yet. (What can I say, Google Translated Engrish is confusing.) But when it does go commercial, it’s sure to make an awesome belated Christmas present for all the momma’s boy gamers in your life.

In Case You Missed It: The Grilled Cheese Hack

If you live by the motto, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” you’re finally being rewarded for hanging onto that vintage toaster. The reward comes to you in the form of an instant grilled cheese sandwich via said toaster.

While you might have already caught onto this lil’ gimmick, Grilled Cheese Social provides detailed step-by-step instructions for making a legit grilled cheese sandwich. Basically, you just tip the toaster on its side and voila! (See above for visual grandeur.) While this doesn’t require that you grease a pan or pick up a spatula, there may be some kinks to work out. For example, if you have a new toaster which clasps the piece of toast upon pulling the lever then this process will not work. An older toaster without this super advanced technology allows the bread topped with cheese to freely heat inside the scorching confines. Another thing to keep in mind is that a toaster laid horizontally means that your grilled cheese will fly out horizontally, as in across the room. Keep an eye on it, unless you like the taste of floor, of course.

The Worst Sandwich Some Guy On Yelp Ever Ate

Yelp has lead me to the best pork bun I ever ate, the finest gourmet cocktail in Los Angeles and almost deterred me from a quaint and affordable bed & breakfast because reviewers claimed that the front desk attendants were rude and a homeless man walked too close to the reviewer’s daughter. I decided to stay at that bed and breakfast. Although the curtain-heavy wooden rod did fall when I tried to close the curtain, I slept happy, ate free muffins in the morning and through it all the attendants smiled, albeit weakly.

There’s a lot of buzz amongst business owners because just a few bad reviews can have really costly effects; for one owner, a bad review resulted in a 25% drop in revenue. Many believe that Yelp removes negative reviews in turn for advertisement and neglects to remove possible fake bad reviews on other businesses which don’t participate in the advertisement, prompting some to take Yelp to court for extortion. You could do that, or you can draw customers in with a  joke about the whole situation, which may just be an algorithm issue to begin with. Come on, aren’t you a little curious about that meatball sandwich?

Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich

In my opinion Grilled Cheese is an American pastime as much as Baseball and Apple Pie. I have no research or evidence to back this up, so therefore it must be true. Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup… so delicious. At least that’s what the Campbell’s commercials used to tell me, and I believed them.

But in all seriousness, the Grilled Cheese has been making a huge comeback in recent years with awesome remixes of the ever-so classic meal. For instance, did you see the Behemoth Burger from Grill ‘Em All Truck with Grill Cheese Sandwiches (plural!) as the buns?! And don’t forget all the appetizing options on the Grilled Cheese Truck.

But now to focus on our main event, say hello to the Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese (angels singing). Cheese, Bread, Jalapenos, Tortilla Chips and MORE CHEESE. Thanks to Kevin of Closet Cooking for the recipe and the photos!

Jalapeno Popper Grill Cheese Sandwich

Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich

A jalapeno popper inspired grilled cheese sandwich with roasted jalapeno peppers, cream cheese, jack & cheddar cheese and crumbled tortilla chips for a bit of crunch.

Servings: makes 1 sandwich

Prep Time: 34 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes

  • 2 jalapeno peppers, cut in half lengthwise and seeded
  • 2 slices sour dough bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup jack and cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon tortilla chips, crumbled
  1. Place the peppers on a baking sheet with the cut side facing down.
  2. Place the baking sheet on the top shelf in the oven and broil until the outer layer of the skin has blackened, about 8-14 minutes.
  3. Place the peppers in a zip-lock bag or other sealable container, seal and let them cool until you can handle them, about 20 minutes.
  4. Remove the skins from the peppers. The skins should easily “pinch” off.
  5. Assemble sandwich and grill until golden brown and the cheese has melted, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Dubai Chef: Best Burger All Time

This has been one hell of a summer, filled with so many good times. And what better to do when it’s perfect out then to BBQ. Well new FoodBeast writer, Matt Maine .aka. The Dubai Chef (since Matt is moving to Dubai in a few weeks to pursue a job in Hotel and Restaurant management) and myself decided one afternoon that we would make the Best Burgers All Time. In all seriousness, I’ve eaten burgers at probably hundreds of different places and these were quite possibly one of the best I’ve ever had. Don’t take my word for it, check out the pics after the jump.
