Great Food Truck Race’s ‘Lime Truck’ To Open New Truck in LA

The FOODBEAST Crew headed to the OC Foodie Fest this past weekend and we all wished we had brought an additional stomach. Between judging 30+ savory food items AND the individual appointments we set up for interviews, we thought we would never eat again (that changed in 1.5 hours).

We had the pleasure of hanging out and chatting with Daniel and Jason from The Lime Truck, who are currently featured on Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race. We talked about the origins of their truck, some of their cuisine and then Rudy entered their Chile Eating Contest with #HotterThanGhost Chiles (/yikes!).

In an exclusive interview with FOODBEAST, Daniel announced his plans to launch a Los Angeles based Lime Truck in the next month. The truck currently gears its focus on Orange County, but this new move looks to expand upon the brand’s growing operation. So Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice and LA will be able to taste the California fusion cuisine in their own neighborhood. Check out the footage from the Chile Eating Contest, and the full interview with Daniel and Jason below:

This LA Pizzeria Sells You Cold, 1-Day Old Pizza

Touted as “Economic Stimulus Pizza,” LA-based Pizzanista! is selling cold, day-old pizza for $1. The same funny-guys who pushed Carne Asada and Chorizo Burrito Pizzas but a few days ago. You gotta give it to these pie-makers for having fun with their genre.

It looks like every $1 spent on this deal will net you multiple slices, wrapped in plastic. A worthy idea for those looking to save a buck, and an even sweeter deal for those who enjoy cold pizza over its warm past-tense version any day of the week. Get happy, as they say —

Honey Feta Fries

In our continuing coverage of Food Trucks on the up and up, we had our attention directed to Louks, an LA and Orange County based truck. In this particular dish, the Greek food truck delivers up a side dish of french fries sprinkled with feta cheese crumbles and drizzled with honey. Available for $4 wherever the Louks to Go truck is available.

Chego Restaurant Reveals Pork Belly Stuffed Donuts

Technically, it’s still the first part of the month, and restaurants are still revealing new items on their menu. Chego restaurant out in Los Angeles is no exception. Chego, the stand-alone cousin companion of the Kogi BBQ truck, has just revealed these amazing looking Chinese pork belly stuffed donuts. They are complete with Sriracha mayo, pickled veggies and sesame sugar. Sweet, savory and spicy? Check. Check. Check.

Jack Daniel’s 160th Birthday Limited Edition Bottle

The year was 1850 and Henry Clay just introduced the Compromise of 1850, American Express was founded by Henry Wells & William Fargo and Los Angeles, California was incorporated as a city. While all of these wonderful events were taking place, Jack Daniels was founded in the midst, thus the celebration of their 160th year anniversary. What better way to honor one of the world’s best selling liquors then to bottle it up in all black. Get your friends together, get your glasses out, and celebrate like you know how to; by getting completely smashed. Bevmo sells it for $30, so man up and purchase some. (Thx CM)

Oki Dog: Los Angeles

Weeks ago I was up in L.A. moving some stuff for a friend of mine with the help of my friend Frankie. He had been to this hot dog spot that apperently was just as good as Pink’s hot dogs but less known, so we decided to check it out. Oki Dog is very unique, it’s two hot dogs rolled up in a tortilla like a burrito, filled with chili, cheese, pastrami, and onions. Cheap, and the quality is excellent. These pictures, although taken with my phone will speak for themselves.

Video of the Day: Lamar Odom the Candy Man

Lamar Odom of the Los Angeles Lakers is a candy fiend. He loves candy. Loves it to the point where watching this video actually makes me feel good and warm inside. In the laid back words of Odom himself, “Who cares, like, you know what I’m saying? You only live once, eat as much candy as you can eat!”
