Krispy Kreme Drops A Pina Colada Donut, Brings Key Lime Back For Summer

Vacation vibes are coming a little early this year, especially with those getting vaccinated and looking to get the feel of the ocean.

For those looking to get a little tropical flavor and nostalgia back, Krispy Kreme is dropping a nationwide collection of donuts inspired by island flavors.

Chief amongst these is the Pina Colada donut, which isn’t spiked with rum, but has everything else you would expect in the classic cocktail. There’s a Pina Colada icing and a Pina Colada filling in the fried treat, with toasted coconut flakes and a candied cherry on top.

Key Lime, which was a buzzworthy flavor Krispy Kreme dropped in 2019, is also making a comeback for the season. There’s a Key Lime Pie donut that features a Key Lime filling and graham cracker topping, plus the chain’s tangy Key Lime glaze.

On Friday, May 21, and Friday, May 28, Key Lime glazed and Key Lime filled doughnuts, the original doughnuts from 2019, will be sold as well.

The last doughnut in Krispy Kreme’s vacation lineup is the Island Time donut. It doesn’t have a special flavor, but comes decorated with icing to give it the resemblance of a palm tree-studded island. It’s a beckon and call to summer holidays that have been sorely missed.

All of these donuts are available starting May 17th for a limited time. For those wondering, the Krispy Kreme vaccination special is still ongoing as well, so you could pick up a free original glazed while trying one of these newer flavors.

The 5 Must Try Dishes That Will Be Available At the Super Bowl

At this point, football is only 50% of the Super Bowl. The NFL’s championship game is larger than life. It’s more of a cultural event, with celebrities and the press descending upon the host city seemingly straight from the Grammy’s and tickets going for, at the very least, thousands of dollars. So, it makes sense that the menu for the game would be larger than life as well.

This year, Centerplate, a food and beverage company that serves entertainment venues around the United States, is in charge of creating a menu for this Sunday’s game at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL. Led by national executive chef Carmen Callo, the Centerplate team has created a menu heavily inspired by Miami’s seasonal offering and its Latin heritage.

Though there will be traditional gametime offerings like popcorn and Bud Light (and for a steal, at $5/can, at that), Centerplate has focused on making the menu a bit more elevated than your typical stadium food. This means bigger plates, better quality, and bolder flavors.

Check out our top five picks for what we’d grub out on if we were going to the big game:

Skewered Pork Kan-Kan

Kan-Kan is the pork equivalent to a tomahawk steak and, clearly, is just as visually striking as it’s bovine counterpart. Centerplate’s is marinated in a spice mix of annatto, sazon, and chimichurri, making for a South Beach blend of spice, zest, and umami.

Key Lime Pie Milkshake

The Key Lime Pie Milkshake takes its inspiration from the pie stemming from the Florida Key’s iconic tiny limes. This vanilla milkshake is topped with fresh whipped cream, a candy gummy, a cherry, and an entire piece of key lime pie proving that, apparently, the only thing better than one dessert is two.

South Florida Seafood Paella

Key West shrimp, mussels, clams, squid, lobster stock, and Valencian bomba rice meet in one of Spain’s most iconic dishes. While this may not be directly Miami-inspired, Centerplate has added a secret mix of spices that draw from the Keys that bring the dish in line with the rest of the menu.

18” Cuban Dog

A Miami menu would be incomplete if there wasn’t a cubano-based dish. This foot-and-a-half long hot dog is covered in mojo pork, mustard, Swiss cheese, and pickles, as it attempts to recreate the famed Cuban sandwich.

Custom NFL Bon Bons

These minute chocolates were specially made for this year’s Super Bowl, as they feature unique decorations inspired by the 12 teams that made the playoff push for February 2nd’s game. I’m not going to lie, if I had these in my possession, there’d be less eating and more sneaking away in my pockets to keep as a relic.

Key Lime Doughnuts Are Dropping At Krispy Kreme To Kick Off Summer

The new summer flavor of 2019 appears to be Key lime pie. We’ve already seen Chick-fil-A come out with a Key Lime Freeze based on the popular Florida dessert. Krispy Kreme is now adding their own take on the treat to their doughnut lineup.

This new Key Lime Doughnut is made with a Key lime creme filling that adds a tart, acidic flavor to balance with the sweet doughnut. Krispy Kreme is launching it as part of their Fruit-Inspired Collection, a summer fruit doughnut lineup that’ll be on menus from May 6 through June 16. Other flavors on the menu include Strawberry and Pineapple.

To hype up the launch of Key Lime and the other summer flavors, Krispy Kreme is also bringing back their Lemon Glazed Doughnut from April 22nd through 28th. It’s a tasty way to start the season of citrus and get us amped up for when that Key Lime doughnut finally drops.

Last October, it was discovered that Chick-fil-A restaurants were testing a Key Lime Pie-flavored drink in the Austin, TX, area. A take on the popularized Florida dessert, the beverage was met with a pretty positive reception from customers. So much so that it’s becoming official.

Chick-fil-A has just announced that the Frosted Key Lime will be making a national release beginning Monday, March 18.

A hand-spun combination of the chain’s vanilla IceDream, Lemonade, and a natural sugar-free lime flavoring, the beverage will be sold in stores across the country.

Fans of Key Lime, just be sure to savor this slowly. Brain freeze is no joke.

If you’re hoping to get your hands on this frosted beverage, make sure to hustle. The limited-time drink will be available through May 25 or while supplies last.

Chick-fil-A Is Testing A Frosted Drink That’s Based On Key Lime Pie

Key lime pie has to be one of the tastiest desserts ever created. The combination of sweet, flaky pastry, the creamy filling, and acidic burst of the key lime perfectly balance together in each mouthful.

Chick-fil-A is taking that combination of flavors and putting it into their newest drink based on the Florida staple.

The new Frosted Key Lime features Chick-fil-A’s lemonade and vanilla soft serve combined with a sugar-free lime flavoring. A combination of key limes, kaffir limes, and Persian limes is used to add different levels of aroma to the frozen beverage.

A blend of spirulina and turmeric give the drink its slight green hue, according to a press release. Both are recognized as superfoods, but it’s unclear how much of each is in the Frosted Key Lime and whether that amount would provide any nutritional benefits. Still, it’s an interesting natural source of color that you wouldn’t expect from a fast food chain.

Chick-fil-A is testing this drink in the Austin, Texas, area for a limited time. A small goes for $3.39.

Oreos Now Has A KEY LIME PIE Flavor With Graham Cracker Cookies

While everyone’s freaking out about the new Oreo Thins hitting shelves, let’s not forget that Nabisco has also released a new Key Lime Pie Oreo.

Foodbeast reader Brian Schmidt sent over some shots of the new cookie flavor. Boasting a light green filling that tastes and resembles a Key Lime Pie, the cookie is available for a limited time.

Also, in keeping with the pie theme, Nabisco will be using a graham cracker cookie rather than a chocolate one.

The cookies are currently available at participating retailers. Presumably for a good part of the summer.
