Meet Kellogg’s Team USA Featuring Only Olympic Hopefuls

Kellogg's Team USA 2016

It’s not unusual to see Team USA Olympic athletes lining cereal boxes in the weeks following the Olympics, but this year, Kellogg’s Team USA will feature Olympic hopefuls on their limited edition boxes.

The boxes, which are now available nationwide, feature five Team USA Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls. According to Kellogg’s, first-time Olympian in the past four Olympic Games, over 55% of Team USA have been first time competitors, but this is the first time a brand will feature only Olympic hopeful athletes.

The boxes are meant to celebrate the daily motivations of the athletes with the idea and hashtag #GetsMeStarted. Team Kellogg’s athletes will be started and driven each day through videos and socia media.

The first time hopefuls include 19-year-old gymnastics star Simone Biles, 24-year-old soccer defender Julie Johnston, 24-year-old swimmer Tom Shields, 22-year-old middle distance runner Ajee Wilson and 33-year-old Paralympics discus thrower Natalie Bieule. Kellogg’s Team USA will also feature team captain and swimming legend Dara Torres.

In addition to supporting Team USA, Kellogg’s also encouraged people to use #GetsMeStarted and share what drives them to get up and be extraordinary.

Watermelon Pop-Tarts Just Became A Reality

Pop-Tart fans can expect a great start to the 2016 year. The Kellogg’s breakfast pastry is adding three new flavors to the line-up: Maple Bacon, Chocolately Caramel and Watermelon.

Stuffed with a maple and bacon filling, the Maple Bacon Pop-Tart is dressed with a white frosting and pieces of bacon-flavored bits.

The Chocolately Caramel boasts a chocolate crust with a caramel filling and topped with a chocolate frosting and brown icing.

Finally, the Watermelon features a plain pastry shell and filled with a watermelon-flavored filling. It’s topped with pink frosting and a green icing.

While the Watermelon and Maple Bacon Pop-Tart are only available for a limited time, the Chocolately Caramel will become a permanent addition to the menu.

Lee Marshall, the Voice of Tony the Tiger, Dies at Age 64

“If God ever wanted to make a speech, Lee Marshall would get the call,” former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda observed.

Lee Marshall, one of the iconic voices behind Tony the Tiger, died of esophageal cancer on April 26 at Santa Monica Hospital, according to the LA Times. Marshall was 64 and is survived by his  son Jason Marshall VanBorssum, wife Judie, stepdaughter Eve Borders Ottis and granddaughter Kate.

Tony the Tiger’s famous line, “They’re grrrreat,” became a nostalgic piece of our childhood, something we heard while watching Saturday morning cartoons and remembered every time we spotted Frosted Flakes in the grocery aisle. Marshall took over for the original Tony, Thurl Ravenscroft, when he passed away in 2005.

Often, strangers would recognize Marshall’s voice and ask him to “do” Tony, said his friend and former KRTH-101 colleague Tom Kelly. “He wouldn’t do it with children around,” Kelly told LA Times. “He was very protective of Tony’s image.”

While no official statement has been made on who will continue the role of Tony the Tiger, whoever is chosen will most likely need to carry on the character’s classic “basso profondo” — deep bass — roar.

4-Year-Old Creates the World’s Most Epic Breakfast Cereal

The folks over Thrillist recently consulted the expertise of a 4-year-old in order to create “the ultimate breakfast cereal.” To create this Frankenstein concoction, all the best parts were delicately picked out of four different cereals. A box of Lucky Charms was pillaged for just the marshmallows, the “reds” taken from Froot Loops, the Honey Bunches pried (and the Oats left for dead), and the berries picked from a box of Crunch Berries. The whole shebang was eaten with a half-gallon of just Cinnamon Toast Crunch leftover milk — which is arguably the best part of that particular cereal.

We bet health food nuts are having a field day with this but c’mon, ya’ll are just mad you didn’t think about it first.

Limited Edition Pop-Tarts: Ducle de Leche & Guava Mango

Just when you thought you saw it all, the folks at Kellog’s and Pop-Tarts come at it again with the Dulce de Leche caramel flavor, and the sexually arousing Guava Mango. I usually don’t stray far from my original strawberry counterpart, but this idea of caramel is too good to pass up. Stay hungry! (Thx TheImpulsiveBuy)
