Chefs Nationwide Compete In Unprecedented Remote Cooking Tournament

Foodbeast Twitch will be hosting what might be the first-ever nationwide competitive cooking competition that viewers can control the outcome LIVE and in realtime. During this Bleed Purple tournament, each chef will be teamed up with a partner that will help them develop their recipes for the upcoming matchups.

Imagine a competitive cooking competition where any chef can compete from their home kitchens. With everyone staying in these days, getting our sports fix is limited to highlight reels or video games. What if, however, there was a real-time tournament where not only you can cheer on your favorite chef, but you can actively sabotage their competition live?!

For those unfamiliar with the Foodbeast Kitchen League, it’s a competitive cooking series on Foodbeast’s Twitch channel that pits two chefs against one another. While they cook, audience members can donate Twitch currency “BITS” to sabotage competing chefs with things like having to cook one-handed, being blindfolded, taking away their knife, or having to wear oven mitts for a period of time. Regardless of how many sabotages come their way, the chefs always manage to produce some of the coolest dishes we’ve seen and tasted.

There will be ways to support your favorite chefs during the stream too, with options such as sabotage protection, clearing sabotages, and revealing dreaded secret ingredients early in the competition.

As the chefs cook, their partners are tasked with guiding them through their sabotages as well as answering host questions to earn Swagger points that lend to the judges’ final deliberation.

For the first time, Kitchen League will be done in complete Squad Stream format, with chefs and their partners participating remotely across the country.

The winner of the entire tournament will be presented the Foodbeast Kitchen League Championship Belt on stream. Additionally, there will be a charity-based reward for all four teams, with bits contributed by your audience (to sabotage opposing teams) going to restaurants or charitable organizations that your team chooses. The overall winner will have $500 added to that cumulative total.

This Panini Is Crammed With Chicken Pesto Pasta

Photo: Saute Magazine

“I treat sandwiches like a meal. That’s why I have no problem using pasta as a topping. The way I think of it, you eat garlic bread with pasta, so why not combine the whole experience into a sandwich?”

Josh Elkin

You’ll Need:

• 1 cup bacon, chopped

• 1 French roll, cut in half lengthwise

• 4 to 6 slices pepper jack cheese

• 1 cup orecchiette

• ½ cup shredded pepper jack cheese

• 1 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 2-inch slices

• 1 cup basil leaves

• ½ cup Parmesan cheese, shredded• ½ cup olive oil

• 1 large clove garlic, minced

• ¼ cup pine nuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Bring a medium-size pot of water to a boil. Season heavily with salt. Add pasta and cook for 8 minutes. Drain, reserving pasta and ½ cup of the water. Put pasta back in the pot and cover to keep warm.
  2. Cook bacon over medium-high heat in a frying pan for 5 minutes. Add a splash of water to render the fat. Continue cooking for an additional 3 to 4 minutes. Extract the bacon from the grease, chop and set aside.
  3. Pat the chicken dry and season with salt and pepper. Add to the frying pan and cook over medium-high heat for 3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. To make the pesto, combine the basil leaves, Parmesan cheese, garlic and olive oil in a food processor. Blend until everything is combined into a spreadable sauce.
  5. Add the pasta and bacon to the frying pan with chicken. Mix vigorously over medium-high heat. Add shredded cheese and mix until the cheese is melted. Add the pesto sauce and continue mixing. Slowly add a bit of the reserved pasta water until a sauce forms. Make sure it’s not too thin. (Add water if it’s too thick.)
  6. Assemble the sandwich. Add enough sliced cheese to cover each half of the bread. Cover one side with pasta mixture and close with the other half.
  7. Preheat a skillet with butter or oil to medium-low. Add your sandwich, then press a heavy pan on top to weigh it down. Cook until it’s golden and crisp, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Add a splash of water to create steam, making sure your cheese is melted. Slice the sandwich and enjoy.

What To Eat With Man’s Best Friend While Dining At This Dog-Loving Restaurant Chain

A lot of restaurants and chains have incorporated dog and pet-friendly policies over the years, but not everyone has had one from the start. If you go to the Lazy Dog, a dog-themed and dog-friendly restaurant chain, though, you’ll find two entire menus: one dedicated to dogs, and another expansive one for their owners.

Foodbeast’s own Marc Kharrat and Elie Ayrouth teamed up with Josh Elkin, the Undisputed Champion of Breakfast and host of the Cooking Channel’s Sugar Showdown, to try out both menus from cover to cover. On the latest episode of Foodbeast’s show Going In, they went to the Lazy Dog location at the Del Amo Fashion Center to sample the chain’s entire offering.

Based on what they tried and reviewed, here are some recommendations on what to order for both you and man’s best friend on the Lazy Dog menu.

Food Bowls for Dogs

The Lazy Dog’s dedicated dog menu is simple, but gets your pet all of the nutrients they need. It consists of plain grilled chicken or burger meat, white or brown rice, and veggies. It’s completely okay for humans to eat, too, should you want to eat dinner alongside your dog.

Three Cheese Pizza

In terms of human food, Ayrouth and Elkin were both big fans of the Three Cheese Pizza. The Lazy Dog’s take on the classic flavor combines mozzarella, Romano, and Parmesan cheese onto one pie.

Ayrouth recommends getting it with chili oil on the side. You can ask for it, drizzle it over the pizza, and get a tasty combo of spicy and cheesy that’ll leave your taste buds tingling.

Mac + Cheese

One of Elkin’s go-to favorites was the Mac + Cheese, a small plate with smoked bacon, hatch chiles, five cheese, and a green onion crumble. There’s plenty of flavor to go around on this one.

Chili Peanut Wings

The Chili Peanut Wings were also a tasty favorite for Elkin. They’re coated in a marinade featuring pineapple juice and fish sauce alongside a variety of chilies and other aromatics for a balanced, flavorsome wing.

Simms Family S’more

Kharrat especially loved this treat because of the campfire nostalgia that it evoked. He said that it “speaks to that campfire culture that the founders seem to be pulling inspiration from and that made it stand out for me.”

Bison Burger

Ayrouth was a particularly huge fan of the bison burger because he felt that it was THE menu item that best achieved the “zen the founders of the restaurant set out to display,” as he put it. “It took me to the wilderness with every bite,” he said, “all the while remembering I was just in a shopping mall.”

As for Marc…

He was just really excited about the massive slab of watermelon served on the side.

This TV Show Host Made A Pizza Bundt Cake And We Can’t Stop Staring

Here at FOODBEAST, we make it our goal to go where no foodie has gone before on a daily basis. We thought we were hot shit…that is, until we saw this insane creation by our friend, the Canadian King of Breakfast himself, Josh Elkin.

You may know Josh from his time on Epic Meal Time, or from the wild pizza ping pong table he created in honor of National Pizza Month last year, but any pre-conceived notions you may have of this saint of culinary creations will be thrown out the window as soon as you lay eyes on this pizza bundt cake.

pizza bundt cake

Yes, we said pizza bundt cake.

To celebrate this year’s National Pizza Month and our love for Pabst Blue Ribbon, Josh turned a humble pie into a bougie pizza bundt cake with CHEESE FROSTING.

Said frosting is made from a healthy dose of PBR, butter, flour, whole milk, and tons of sharp cheddar cheese, and literally embodies food porn. Just try to contain your nether regions as you watch this ooey, gooey, cheesey glaze make its way from the pot onto the freshly baked pizza bundt.

pizza bundt cake

Our hearts almost stopped beating.

Check the recipe out below to make this sinful creation for yourself. As National Pizza Month comes to a close, don’t forget to tag your last-minute PBR pizza creations with #inpizzawecrush.

Estimated prep time: 15 minutes
Estimated cook time: 45 minutes
Estimated total time: 1 hour

Ingredients:
For the bundt cake
1 large pizza worth of pre-made dough
2 cups pizza sauce
12-15 slices of fresh mozzarella
1 pack large sliced pepperoni
1 stick butter, melted
2 teaspoons garlic, minced
For the sauce
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
¾ cup whole milk
¾ cup PBR beer
1 ½ – 2 cups sharp cheddar, shredded
½ cup mini pepperoni
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2
Roll the pizza dough out into a ½ an inch thick square. Cover the pizza dough in pizza sauce, leaving ½ an inch of space around the edges. Add pepperoni on top of the marinara.

Step 3
Cover the entire surface of the dough with the sliced mozzarella. Coat the inside of the bundt cake with melted garlic butter (just combine butter and minced garlic), then dust it with flour.

Step 4
Roll the dough into a large cylinder, stretching it if needed. Twist the dough as best you can and then gently put it into the mould. Baste the top with more garlic butter. Bake the bundt cake for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Step 5
Melt butter in a small saucepan. When the butter is fully melted, add the flour and whisk until the flour becomes golden brown. Take the pot off the heat.

Step 6
Whisk in ¼ of the milk at a time until the sauce is smooth. Stir in the beer and seasoning and return the pot to the heat. Bring to a bubble and turn off heat. Add a small amount of the cheese at a time until you reach a smooth cheese sauce consistency.

Step 7
Flip the pizza cake out of the mould, and cover it in the cheese sauce like you would icing or use the sauce for dipping.

This Guy Hacked Hot Chicken & Pickle Chips And We’re Obsessed

The best part of any Nashville Hot Chicken dining experience is arguably the red-hot skin and the refreshing cool of the accompanying pickle slices. Can you imagine an appetizer that combined those two elements in one convenient bite, though?

Josh Elkin, Montreal’s Magistrate of Maple, dreamt up what no one before him dared to: Hot Chicken Skin Pickle Chips.

After removing the skin from a chicken breast, Elkin wraps it around a thick pickle slice and coats it in egg wash and flour before dunking them into white-hot cooking oil. Then, he combines a plethora of hot spices to create the Nashville Hot Chicken sauce.

The idea was first brought up on a Friend Chicken episode trip to Howlin’ Ray’s, a widely popular Los Angeles Nashville Hot Chicken Joint.

Check out the video for a step-by-step on how to bring these crispy beauties to life.

Think I need to hang out with this guy more. It’s rare to find someone who’s down for breakfast 24/7 and can lull you to sleep with his sweet rhetoric.

This Pizza Baklava May Have Just Become Our Summer Romance

The minute celebrity chef Josh Elkin left Canada and moved to Los Angeles, he’s been firing on all cylinders when it comes to dope recipes.

The former Prime Minister of Poutine is considered a jack of many trades. He can cook, he can rap, he’s romantic, and he can style hair better than most people we’ve met.

In his latest video, Elkin creates an amalgam of Italy and the Middle East in the form of this wonderful Pizza Baklava.

Baklava is a Middle Eastern dessert made from phyllo dough that’s layered together meticulously with chopped nuts and honey. Pizza, as we all know, originates from Italy and is life.

We don’t say this lightly, but we might be in love.

Check out the video to see how you can make this insane item from the comforts of your very own home. Because it’s part pizza, feel free to get creative with your toppings.
