Kiva Confections Introduces Cannabis-Infused Hot Chocolate

Continuing their spirited foray into holiday inspired cannabis treats, Kiva Confections is now offering limited edition Hot Chocolate. Their latest invention uses the same fast-acting technology as the previously released Turkey Gravy which took Thanksgiving dinners to new heights.

If you’re unfamiliar with Kiva’s fast-acting technology, it utilizes individually encapsulated molecules that allow for faster THC absorption than your typical edible. These molecules are isolated and small enough to be absorbed by our body’s endocannabinoid receptors. What this means in layman’s terms is that you can feel the effects of Kiva’s Hot Chocolate within a record 15 minutes. That’s almost 15-30 minutes faster than most edibles and allows for a more predictable cannabis experience.

Kiva’s premium edibles are created with the goal of removing the unpredictable effects that usually accompany your typical garden variety edible. By focusing the window to 15 minutes, it offers first time users, or infrequent ones, to have more assurance in their experience. Kiva’s thoughtfulness combined with unique ideas like their new limited edition Hot Chocolate will undoubtedly add joy to your holiday high. Each pouch is infused with 5mg of THC and like traditional hot chocolate, comes in powdered form. You can find Kiva’s limited edition Hot Chocolate at dispensaries throughout California while supplies last.

Spiked Ponche Navideño Will Make Everybody’s Spirits Bright

Some of Christmas’s best memories come after the dinner is done, the family is all together around the couch, and the aroma of ponche Navideño fills the room. It’s a time of relaxation, comfort, and getting the best stories possible out of tia.

If you want to make sure the juiciest tales are revealed, make sure that your ponche comes with a little extra kick. This version, served in an optional apple mug you can snack on, comes with a shot of gold rum packed into each cup to keep the fun times rolling all night long.

You can find all of the ingredients you need for this grown-up ponche Navideño at Northgate Market. There will also be a holiday cookbook available with all of the recipes you need for the celebrations to come.

If you’re a huge ponche Navideño fan and want to get a pot going already, though, you can peep the full recipe for this rum-laden version below.

Servings: 12

Ingredients

For the Ponche

2 navel oranges, reserve 1 for garnish

12 whole cloves

6 tejocotes or red cojotes

1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers (flor de jamaica)

3 cinnamon sticks

12 cups water

2 Granny Smith apples, sliced

1 pear, sliced

1 sugar cane stick, cut into 4 inch long pieces. Get some more for garnish if you can, but if not, cinnamon sticks are also great.

1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar

12 oz gold rum

Fresh hibiscus flowers for garnish

For the Apple Cups

Large red apples

1/2 cup lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Use the pointed ends of the cloves to insert them into a whole orange, leaving the entire fruit studded. Cut the orange into wedges, and also cut some slits into the tejocote.

Step 2

In a large pot, bring the hibiscus flowers, cinnamon sticks and water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until your water is a deep pink color.

Step 3

Remove the hibiscus flowers, leaving the cinnamon sticks inside to infuse further. Add the orange wedges, tejocotes, apples, pear, sugar cane, and brown sugar to the pot and stir. Simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

When the ponche is cooking, prepare some apple “mugs” to serve the festive punch in. Cut off the top of each apple, and use a paring knife to score the rims. Scoop out the center of the apple using a spoon or melon baller. Coat the inside of the apple with lemon juice to keep it from turning brown.

Step 5

To serve, ladle the punch into an apple cup, making sure each cup gets some slices of fruit as well. Garnish with an orange slice, fresh hibiscus flower and sugar cane (or cinnamon) stick. If desired, add 1 ounce of gold rum to each cup to give the punch an extra kick.

How To Treat Your Dad To A Meaty Father’s Day

There are those of you who like to plan your Father’s Day ahead of time, and others who tend to wait until the last minute to figure something out. There’s no wrong away to go about it, just as long as whatever you do comes from the heart.

For example, my dad’s a guy with simple tastes. He LOVES meat. Rather than picking up a new shirt or wristwatch this year for Father’s Day, I began thinking up a few different experiences I could share with my father.

Here are some easy to execute activities I came up for my dad. Hopefully they inspire you to come up with some that fits yours!

Grab That ‘Cue

My dad loves barbecue. Give him a well-smoked brisket, sweet fall-off-the-bone ribs, some cheddar jalapeño sausages, and he’ll be a happy man. If your pops is the same, then find a good BBQ joint open on Father’s Day and treat him to a little of everything.

We’re talking brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, wings, sausages, and whatever sides your poppa’s heart desires.

Now if it’s anything like the Hog Heaven, that massive off-the-wall BBQ Birthday Cake, just make sure you bring a few extra family members to help you pick it apart. That thing’s massive.

Steak Recipe Free-For-All

Some of my best memories with my dad are simply the two of us cooking together, grilling meat, and frying fish.

Not too long ago, the Foodbeast editorial team were sent different cuts from this company called  Porter Road. Each person was tasked with creating a dish from a specific cut of meat: tri-tip, petite sirloin, shoulder tender, and flap.

As someone who looks for father figures wherever I go, it was interesting to see how my coworkers functioned in a kitchen setting and the dynamic between everyone when in full cooking mode.

Perhaps just running to the nearest Costco and picking up a few random cuts of meat, blasting some Carlos Santana on the stereo and just getting creative in the kitchen is something dad would enjoy.

Did Someone Say Hot Chicken?

Popular DTLA-based Howlin’ Ray’s is lauded for their Nashville Hot fried chicken. What they’re also known for is that ridiculously long line that rounds the block. If your dad is someone who appreciates an immaculate piece of fried chicken, I recommend taking him here.

A post shared by HOWLIN’ RAY’S (@howlinrays) on

Sure, you’re guaranteed a multi-hour wait for your meal but that simply gives you plenty of time to catch up with him while you inch closer to the storefront.

Now, if you’re not based near Los Angeles, the same theory applies for any dope spot whose lines rival a sneaker drop. Just pick a restaurant, put on some comfy shoes, and get yourselves ready for some genuine conversation while you wait.

Let’s Hit The Grill

If your dad is someone who enjoys manning the grill, set everything up for him this weekend.

Put together a few quick and easy recipes and have everything prepped and marinated ahead of time. Clean out the grill, smoker or stove and have everything preheated and ready to go.

Once your dad is up and about this Sunday, all you have to do is hand him a beer, a pair of tongs, and pull up a chair with him.

All he’ll have to do is watch the flames, tend to the meat, and share an ice-cold brew with his kid.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun Father’s Day Sunday!

This Sweet Interactive Map Lists The Top Christmas Candy In Each State

We’re about a week into December and we already feel the holiday spirit knocking on our sweet tooth. Or maybe that’s just a cavity. Either way, we’re trying to think of all the Christmas candies and confectionaries to load our pantry with as the holiday draws closer.

Because it’s pretty much the Wild West out there in Sugarland, the Candy Store created an interactive map that actually shows you the most popular holiday candy in each state in the US.

After surveying 50,000 Candy Store customers, the results were double checked with major candy distributors and then illustrated into the vibrant guide you see above.

There are definitely holiday candies here we never expected to be so popular. Heck, we didn’t even know Reindeer corn was a thing. Check out the map and see what candies made the popular list this year in your state. In the mean time, we’re going to get our candy shopping list ready.

Gingerbread Doughnuts Are Coming To Krispy Kreme This Holiday

December has officially begun and we’re all going full throttle towards the holiday season. As we bid farewell to pumpkin-spiced items for the year, we’re ready to belt a hearty hello to new winter holiday flavors.

On that sweet note, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts just announced the debut of a new Gingerbread Glazed Doughnut.

The new doughnut features a spiced gingerbread dough that’s covered in a warm gingerbread molasses glaze. Bet that goes nicely with a hot cup of coffee.

You can officially find the new holiday doughnut only on Tuesday Dec. 12 at participating US Krispy Kreme Doughnuts locations.

Until then, you may or may not find us camping out at our nearest Krispy Kreme spot. Hopefully they don’t run out before we get our hands on some.
