This Turkey Waffle Stack is a Part of the New Holiday Food Items at Universal Studios Hollywood

Turkey Waffle Stack at Universal Studios Hollywood Holidays

There’s a new holiday food lineup at Universal Studios Hollywood, and one particular menu item is drawing interest on the Foodbeast radar: a Turkey Waffle Stack.

The new Turkey Waffle Stack joins a host of other holiday-influenced foods at the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park. It looks to feature a warm, crisp waffle topped with a generous helping of stuffing, gravy, roasted turkey slices, and cranberry sauce. It’s pretty much the best of Thanksgiving leftovers reimagined on a tasty waffle.

14 of the Best Holiday Foods at Knott’s Merry Farm

Rarely has there ever been a theme park with as intrinsic of a connection to food as Knott’s Berry Farm has. Originating from a roadside berry stand, the park still has an annual celebration for boysenberry season. Knott’s prides itself on continually updating the dishes around the park in accordance with its festivals, like it’s current variation Knott’s Merry Farm, where the park gets a vibrant, festive overlay.

Last week, we got to visit the freshly decorated park and celebrate the holiday season by trying several of the new dishes that will be served until Knott’s Merry Farm wraps up on January 5th. Check out the 14 foods below that made us joyfully grab a top hat and start singing Christmas carols.

Mac Lorraine

Location: Wagon Wheel Pizza

A classic white cheese mac gets mixed with bacon and wrapped in a fresh naan. It’s like if garlic bread got in the gym and beefed itself up.

Holiday Poutine

Location: La Papa Loca

A bed of crispy sweet potato fries is topped with turkey, turkey gravy, dried cranberries, and, as any self-respecting poutine should have, cheese curds.

Fried Green Beans

Location: Calico Fry Company

The best way to prepare vegetables, ironically, is frying them. After these green beans have been breaded and fried to a savory crisp, they’re served with parmesan cheese, herbs, and a side of mushroom soup dip.

Peppermint Milkshake / Eggnog Milkshake

Location: Coasters Diner and Cable Car Kitchen

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen milkshakes to this scale, as these are truly remarkable in size and taste. The first holiday milkshake features a peppermint-flavored ice cream, green frosting, a slice of roulade cake, a piece of peppermint bark, whipped cream, and as if that wasn’t enough, the cup is rimmed in crushed candy canes. The other one is an eggnog milkshake that’s covered in white frosting, a small gingerbread bundt cake, whipped cream, and comes in a cup rimmed with Christmas sprinkles.

Eggnog Cheesecake

Location: Grand Bakery and Ghost Town Bakery

Eggnog cheesecake would have been fantastic in the first place, but Knott’s takes an entire slice, dips it in a white chocolate ganache, and puts it on a stick for easy, mobile eating.

Christmas Bark

Location: Grand Bakery and Ghost Town Bakery

This season, there’s three new chocolate barks: a white chocolate peppermint bark with festive sprinkles and sugar balls, a milk chocolate toffee bark with chopped pecans, and a dark chocolate bark with pistachios and dried cranberries. My favorite candy, period, is peppermint bark, so I was excited to try the park’s bark offerings. I’ll put it this way: that bark didn’t make it out of the park.

Christmas Cookie Dough Bites

Location: Ghost Town Grub

If having an insatiable sweet tooth is an issue, here’s the answer. Made with a holiday sprinkle cookie dough, the sweet spheres are dipped in funnel cake batter, fried, and topped with powdered sugar.

Apple Crumble Dessert Pizza

Location: Beachy Keen’s Pizza

In a lineup of pizzas, the apple crumble dessert pizza would stand out of the crowd for its originality. Butter, cinnamon sugar, apple pie filling, and a brown sugar crumble are plentifully spread on a pie crust (which, luckily, rises and acts just like pizza crust). After being topped with a cream cheese icing, this dessert resembles a delicious deconstructed apple pie.

White Christmas Pizza

Location: Beachy Keen’s Pizza

Topped with a white sauce, ricotta and mozzarella cheese, garlic chives, and chunks of chicken, this is Knott’s version of a classic white pizza pie.

Gingerbread Churro

Location: The Churro Factory

The classic churro is flipped on its head and dressed up in it’s best holiday outfit for this holiday season. In this festive iteration, a gingerbread spiced pastry dough is fried, coated in cinnamon sugar, and filled with a gooey dulce de leche sauce.

Turkey Dinner Burger

Location: Coasters Diner

With a turkey patty, sage sausage-apple stuffing, and a cranberry mayo placed on a pretzel bun, this is like the sandwich you create the day after Thanksgiving, but way better.

Turkey Bites

Location: Santa’s Christmas Cabin

Turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce are hugged by a golden-brown breading and served with a side of gravy. Props to Knott’s, it’s one thing to come up with the idea to fry an entire turkey dinner, but it’s a whole different ball game to actually do it and make it taste good like they did.

Turkey Pasty

Location: Ghost Town Grill

Turkey breast, wild mushrooms, potatoes, cranberries, spinach, and cream sauce are all wrapped up in a delicate pastry crust. This one is for all the pot pie lovers out there.

Horchata / S’mores / Maple Pecan Funnel Cake

Location: Sutter’s Funnel Cake, Log Ride Funnel Cake and Cable Car Kitchen

Funnel cake options are aplenty at Knott’s Merry Farm, all of which are topped with their soft serve ice cream. There’s a horchata funnel cake topped with a cinnamon sugar dusting, whipped cream, and an entire churro doughnut. Other holiday variants include a s’mores one topped with a s’mores snack, marshmallow fluff, chocolate chunks, graham crumbs, and maple pecan with whipped cream, maple icing, and candied pecans.

EVERY New Disneyland Holiday Treat That You Have To Track Down

The holiday season at Disneyland is always one of the most festive times of the year. You can expect an explosion of holiday decor, legendary hand-pulled candy canes, and plenty of creative new treats to track down.

This year, Disneyland created a wide variety of themed items, celebrating different holidays around the world. Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Diwali, Christmas, and other festive days are represented by the foods found in Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and the Festival of Holidays Marketplace.

Here are the new celebratory creations to scope out while planning your food crawl through the parks this holiday season.

Holiday Churros

Location: Churro Carts around Disneyland Park

In Disneyland, you can find three different churros that celebrate the holidays. There’s the Peppermint and Pretzel Churro near Big Thunder, the Sugarplum Candy Churro near Haunted Mansion, and the Gingerbread Churro near the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Peppermint Churro Sundae

Location: The Golden Horseshoe

Cajeta-filled churros garnish the top of this festive sundae, which is made with peppermint ice cream and topped with brownie crumbles, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.

Churro Bites With Eggnog Gelato

Eggnog fans are gonna love this as a way to beat the SoCal heat during the holiday season. Tiny churros are served with a scoop of eggnog gelato and a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Philly Cheesesteak Hot Dog

Location: Refreshment Corner

Disneyland likes to experiment with some wild meat-topped hot dogs each season. For the holidays, they’ve gone with the Philly Cheesesteak, using roast beef, peppers, onions, and cheese sauce to emulate the classic sandwich in frankfurter form.

Santa Hat Macaron

Location: Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe

When it comes to flavor, this Santa Hat macaron keeps it “fresh” with a cooling white mint filling and a chocolate ganache interior.

Holiday Brownie

Location: Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe

You’re basically getting three desserts in one with this item. There’s the actual brownie that serves as the base to some chocolate presents, and a Christmas tree gingerbread cookie.

Snowman Pancake With Bacon

Location: Red Rose Taverne

Disneyland got a bit clever with this breakfast. The snowman-shaped pancake is finished off with a “scarf” of bacon strips to further evoke the Frosty resemblance.

Holiday Pastry Wreath

Location: Red Rose Taverne

Think of this as a round eclair stuffed with a plethora of fillings. On the inside you’ll find a cranberry-raspberry compote, AND an orange and white chocolate mousse.

Dessert Nachos

A post shared by Jess 🌻 (@jaqandjess) on

Location: Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante

The menu calls these “Dessert Nachos,” but “apple pie nachos” is a better descriptor. The cinnamon crisp “chips” come with all of the standard characters in the treat’s lineup: apple filling, vanilla sauce, cajeta, and whipped cream.

Sopapilla Cheesecake

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by FoodAtDisneyland (@foodatdisneyland) on

Location: Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante

Sopapillas are pieces of fried dough, dusted with cinnamon and sugar. Disney is using a croissant dough as a “sopapilla,” which gets baked with cinnamon sugar and melted butter. Cheesecake filling is then sandwiched between layers of the croissant. If that’s not enough, the entire creation is finished with more sugar and whipped cream.

Space Dip Pizza

Location: Alien Pizza Planet

You know that spinach/artichoke dip that’s always present at the appetizers table prior to virtually any big feast? This pizza takes that and uses it as a base sauce, with chicken, capicola, and shredded cheese going on top.

Alien Holiday Macarons

One of Disneyland’s more popular new treats is getting a holiday twist, with an edible Santa hat and candy cane decorations adding contrast to the green Alien Macarons.

Lamb Kofta

Location: Bengal Barbecue

Looks like Disneyland is giving its Middle Eastern/Mediterranean meatballs a spin. Their take on the lamb kofta comes with tzatziki, pickled onion, spinach, and pita bread.

Traditional-Style Pozole

A post shared by Richard 👨🏻‍🍳 + Amanda 👩🏻‍💻 (@fantasylandfoodies) on

Location: Harbour Galley

The tiny seafood shack nearby Haunted Mansion is adding the classic Mexican soup to its menu for the holidays. They’re keeping it close to the standard version, with hominy, slow-roasted tomatillos, and Serrano chiles used to make the soup. In California Adventure, a similar pozole is also being sold at the Paradise Garden Grill.

Santa’s Lump Of Coal Beignets

Location: Cafe Orleans

A dessert that’s a pretty nice treat for what’s supposed to resemble your “gift” for being naughty. The beignets are made with chocolate and hazelnut, and dusted in a dark peppermint sugar. To add even more minty flavor, a scoop of peppermint ice cream is served on top.

Stocking Stuffer Funnel Cake Fries

All of the little candies and cookies you might find in your stockings are piled onto these funnel cake fries. Candy-coated chocolates, creme-filled cookie sandwiches (aka Disneyland OREOs), crushed peppermints, peppermint ice cream, and whipped cream are all loaded on top.

Disney is unfortunately not using gingerbread in the funnel cake fry batter, but you still get the holiday sweet bread’s iconic flavor, as it’s topped with crumbled gingerbread, caramel, icing, and whipped cream.

Peppermint Affogatto

Location: Schmoozies!

If you need a pick-me-up while walking around the park, this treat will power you through the day. It’s made with refreshing peppermint ice cream and a strong shot of espresso to wake you up.

Peppermint Crunch Shake

Location: Schmoozies!

The featured holiday shake at Schmoozies! is like drinking frozen candy canes. Made with a peppermint ice cream base, it also has cookie crumbles, crushed peppermints, and peppermint whipped cream on top.

Minnie Wreath Donut

Location: Schmoozies!

Peppermint and chocolate really is the name of the game for the holiday treats at Schmoozies! Even this Minnie Wreath cronut gets the treatment, as it’s packed with a generous amount of peppermint chocolate ganache.

Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich

The one non-peppermint treat at Schmoozies! pays tribute to another classic holiday flavor: Gingerbread. Two gingerbread cookies sandwich a heaping scoop of brown sugar cinnamon ice cream that’s coated with even more gingerbread.

Plant-etarium Street Tacos

Location: Studio Catering Co.

If you’re looking for some unique meat-free items, consider stopping by this food truck near the Monsters, Inc. ride. Their plant-based tacos feature Brussels sprouts, salsa verde, pickled red onions, and an apple and pomegranate slaw.

Holiday Frozen Horchata

A post shared by Mari Mabanag (@all.foods.disney) on

Location: Studio Catering Co.

Studio Catering is serving a holiday twist on L.A. street food, including this fragrant frozen horchata, imbued with cinnamon throughout. They’ve also got a take on the dessert nachos similar to those from Rancho del Zocalo, but without the apple pie filling.

Luigi’s Chicken Pesto Cone

Location: Cozy Cone Motel

Disneyland tends to knock it out of the park when it comes to pasta, and this seasonal cone is no exception. You’re getting a heaping amount of pasta, pesto, and chicken with a bit of kick, served with a balsamic reduction, Parmesan, and tomato for some fresh notes. Eating the chimney cone of bread that’s soaked up the pesto at the end is the best part.

Santa Cone Hat Macaron

Location: Cozy Cone Motel

If Santa preferred to wear orange instead of red, this would be his macaron of choice. A spin-off of the Spok-ey Cone Macarons that show up during Halloween, these ones come with a cookies and cream filling rather than candy corn.

Turkey Pot Pie Soup

Location: Pacific Wharf Cafe

Thanksgiving leftovers idea, anyone? This is essentially a turkey pot pie filling stuffed into a bread bowl, and with all of the turkey and trimmings you’ll have leftover, this hearty bowl could definitely serve as some inspiration.

Vegan Chile Relleno

A post shared by Lisa (@flyfarther79) on

Location: Paradise Garden Grill

For those wondering how one makes a vegan chile relleno, Disney’s version comes with a vegetable stew on the inside and a tofu cream on top. It also appears to be roasted instead of deep-fried, leaving us still curious as to how you replicate chile relleno’s signature crunchy batter in a plant-based way.

Holiday Dinner Pizza

Location: Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta

There’s no cheese on this pizza, but it does capture virtually every key component of the classic holiday dinner. Chunks of turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy and bacon are loaded onto each hefty slice.

Turkey Carnitas Poutine

A post shared by Food and Drinks of Disneyland (@dolewhipdollies_) on

Location: Lamplight Lounge

Disney is providing us with even more Thanksgiving leftovers ideas, as the thought of creating a cheesy, savory poutine with our leftover turkey could actually be a clutch one to get through all of the containers in the fridge. If you want Disney’s fresh version, though, the Lamplight Lounge does often require reservations, so keep that in mind.

Festival Of Holidays In Disney California Adventure

Turkey & Stuffing Tamale

Location: Merry Mashups

Thanksgiving dinner, meet tamales. The masa creates a base that’s unique on both flavor and texture to the standard holiday meal, and the amount of turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and gravy piled inside is pretty generous.

Lox & Everything Bagel Nachos

Location: Merry Mashups

“Nachos” is a very loose term for what’s basically loaded bagel chips, since there is no cheese on top of these. A delicately smoked salmon and tangy white sauce are the main flavors that make this dish taste like the bagel sandwich it’s based off of.

Hot Cocoa Macaron

If you’re wondering what makes this chocolaty macaron a “hot cocoa” one, it definitely has something to do with the crown of marshmallows that stud the top of this sweet treat.

Sparkling Wine Punch

This might be one of the most refreshing treats you can find in the entire Festival of Holidays. A generous glass of sparkling wine and Chandon Brüt is finished with a couple of scoops of lime sherbert for a boozy, tropical twist on a float.

Festive Mimosa Flight

Location: Making Spirits Bright

If you’re a fan of mimosas made with a variety of different fruits, you’ll want to get things going with this flight. You get a pomegranate mimosa, white cranberry mimosa, and pear nectar mimosa that intermingle sweet, acidic, and tart together in an orchestra of boozy flavors.

The Jewish deli classic just got reimagined into tater tots, with chunks of pastrami, a Thousand Island-style sauce, and crumbs of rye toast sprinkled over the top.

Curry Cauliflower Soup With Braised Lamb

Location: Holiday Duets

This dish has quite a bit of a fusion feel too it. A creamy curried cauliflower soup serves as the base, with braised lamb and a tangy, bright “mint-Churri” (minty chimichurri) sauce on top. It sounds like an explosion of flavor just based on the name alone.

Shrimp And Grits With Andouille Sausage

Disney’s take on the Southern staple sounds promising, as the resort already has a pretty fire Cajun spot in the form of Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen.

Holiday Mickey And Minnie Cookies

Shaped to look like the iconic Disney characters, the buttery shortbread cookies are each flavored differently based on the icing, both of which are slightly lemony.

Eggnog Wreath Eclair

This is similar to the eclair you’ll find in Red Rose Taverne, only it contains a creamy eggnog interior instead of the fruitier interior its counter part has. The top is made with a white chocolate icing.

Cornbread Cakes With Collard Greens And Bacon Gravy

Pozole Rojo is typically done with pork, but this beefy twist adds a rich texture to the classic, which gets a further twist with the addition of a polenta made from hominy.

Vegan Chicken Mole

The vegan “chicken” is a similar soy meat to the one used in the “Avocado Oumph!” that Disneyland created for the California Adventure Food and Wine festival earlier this year. It adds a savory, nutty flavor that compliments the aromatics in the mole.

Roasted Turkey Slider

Location: Winter Sliderland

The entire Thanksgiving meal is packed into a slider in this creation, which features a stack of sliced turkey, gravy, and a tangy cranberry sauce to balance everything out.

Stuffing Mac And Cheese

The creamy, tangy cheese sauce mixed into this mac is an enticing flavor combination that’s accentuated by a garnish of stuffing crumbs heaped on like a pile of fresh snow.

On top of all of these items, several of the favorite treats from last year are also back on the menu. Keep an eye out for returning eats like chorizo queso fundido, s’mores parfaits, peppermint ice cream sundaes, and a whole lot more holiday treats. You can sample them all through January 8, when the holiday celebration officially concludes.

Hit-Or-Miss Packaged Food Products What's New

2016’s Best New Holiday-Themed, Limited-Edition Food Products

With Halloween done, food companies are getting ready to launch a bucketload of holiday-themed products onto consumers as the holiday season comes around. From gingerbread to peppermint, common holiday flavors will be popping up in grocery stores and restaurants everywhere. With Food Business News releasing a slideshow featuring some of the newest food products that are set to entice holiday shoppers, we got to thinking: which holiday-themed food products are truly a step above the rest this year? Here’s a list of our favorites and which companies are selling them:

Starbucks – Spiced Sweet Cream Nariño 70 Cold Brew

Photo: Delish

Starbucks has definitely gone away from their traditional style of new holiday drinks. Usually, spiced warm drinks splash onto the menu as new introductions this time of year. This time, they went for a cold beverage with holiday flair. For those of us that live in warmer areas during the winter, we’re definitely open to it. Even if we don’t get to drink out of the new green holiday cups.

Ethel M (Mars) – Dark Chocolate Crème de Menthe

Photo: PR Newswire

The premium chocolate brand of Mars has dropped the mic on the holidays with a slew of new products. While these are mainly new holiday-themed tins, one of the two new chocolates stick out. This boozy creme-filled dark chocolate takes peppermint chocolates to a whole new level.

Our Little Rebellion – Fudge and Snickerdoodle Popcorners Mini’s

Photo: Food Business News

Our Little Rebellion has a great line of popped corn chip snacks, and these two new holiday flavors are perfect additions. Chocolatey fudge and aromatic snickerdoodle put a holiday twist on these non-GMO, gluten-free snacks that are perfect to serve to any guest.

Dunkin’ Donuts – Boston Kreme Croissant Donut

Photo: Delish

We previewed the new Dunkin’ Donuts holiday menu for you all recently, but this has to be one of the best new additions by the beloved donut slingers. Boston Creme Pie is a classic American dessert, and this croissant donut is the perfect way to spread it across the nation. With rich Bavarian cream and a chocolate icing, this truly is the definition of holiday indulgence.

Arby’s – Venison Sandwich

Photo: ABC7 Chicago

While not released specifically for the holidays, the timing of Arby’s release of this new sandwich matches perfectly with them. Venison is a more common meat in higher-end restaurants around this time of season, and isn’t as available to consumers as it should be. While Arby’s is selling this in more hunting-centric locations, we’re excited to see this hopefully spread across the U.S. in the future. We’re just hoping that it’s not Rudolph being served in one of those sandwiches.

Hershey’s – Sea Salt Caramel Baking Chips

Photo: Food Business News

Who doesn’t love salted caramel? This awesome trend has made it into baking chips, and it’s ready to take holiday baking to a salty-sweet level of bliss. We’re hoping to see a lot more salted caramel chip cookies being baked during this holiday season.

Your Pie – Chicken and Waffle Pizza

Photo: 365 Things to Do In Houston

This pizza chain is going all-out on its new addition. The line between sweet and savory is totally blurred here with fried chicken pieces, waffle, syrup, ricotta, Parmesean, and basil. A scoop of apple pie gelato really gets this pizza in the holiday mood as well.

Krispy Kreme – Pumpkin Spice Coffee Thins

Photo: Food Business News

There had to be at least one new pumpkin spice product on this list, and Krispy Kreme is rocking it with this new product. They teamed up with Tierra Nueva to create a coffee treat that tastes like a pumpkin spice latte. Three of these have the same caffeine as a cup of coffee, so make sure to grab a pack for caffeine on the go!

General Mills – Cinnamon Star Crunch

Photo: Food Business News

This isn’t really much of a flavor change, but look at how adorable those star shapes are! Add this to the list of reasons why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Pringles – Salted Caramel Potato Chips

Out of the three new Pringles chips flavors released for the holidays, this one is hands down the best. The salty chips get accentuated by the sweet caramel flavors going on for a perfectly balanced holiday snack. Hats off to you, Pringles, this flavor combo is brilliant for the holiday season.
