5 Foods That Bind With Cannabinoids To Float You Higher

The cannabis industry is rapidly evolving, as is the information that’s available to us. This is due, in part, to research that has examined what exactly cannabis is and does. With increased attention on whether the THC and CBD compounds within cannabis can potentially provide a multitude of health benefits — besides the obvious psychoactive experience – crucial awareness has begun to spread.

For those unfamiliar, THC and CBD are the two most well-known cannabinoids often attributed as the source of happiness, endorphins, and relaxation that cannabis provides, though there are actually more components at play. For example, terpenes are a group of hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of many plants – including the cannabis plant – that are garnering more attention for potentially being responsible for creating those calming effects.

Because terpenes are a primary component of essential oils, they are frequently found in foods, as well. Terpenes, combined with valuable vitamins in certain foods, can potentially heighten symptoms typically associated with cannabis consumption, in addition to produce sensations similar to the effects of cannabis on its own.

With a little education and willingness for experimentation, it’s possible to munch in a way that lifts you to a higher plane and keeps that feeling going. 1. Sweet Potato

Aside from being delicious, sweet potatoes are known as a powerful mood-boosting food. They are packed with complex carbohydrates and Vitamin B that both produce serotonin, the happy chemical in the brain.

As a plus, sweet potatoes are low in fat and protein, thus making it easy for serotonin to affect your mood. Similarly, some cannabis studies have concluded that certain strains of marijuana, particularly sativas, can be helpful to those with anxiety and depression because of their uplifting qualities. For those who are looking to boost their sativa-induced happiness a bit further, try adding a basket of sweet potato fries, as they might make a perfect partner.

2. Omega-3 Rich Foods

Nuts, fish, avocado, and quinoa are all high in omega-3 fatty acids. Interestingly enough, the acids are actually thought to bind to cannabinoids, thus potentially enhancing the properties of cannabis. Grabbing a small snack of walnuts could kick start the trip and extend it longer than usual. These healthy foods are also far more beneficial to the body than stereotypical, greasy junk food associated with the munchies.

There are so many herbs with beneficial terpenes, it’s hard to narrow them down! Pinene and limonene are particular examples of terpenes found in both the herbs you use in your kitchen, as well as in cannabis, possibly lending insight into why we so fondly refer to it as THE Herb. Sage and thyme are known for their pinene, while lemon basil, lemon thyme, and lemongrass are high in limonene.

Pinene has been known to open up the lung passages, which could theoretically make it easier for cannabis to soak into the bloodstream and heighten your experience. Just like vitamins in sweet potato, limonene has been known to relieve anxiety, depression, and stress. A cup of herbal tea to compliment the herb could give a healthy boost in the clouds when it’s hard to pick yourself up.

4. Mangoes

Mangoes are highly regarded in the cannabis community for their enhancing effects. Mango is a unique fruit that contains myrcene terpenes, also found in cannabis. When consumed together, the myrcene in mango binds to the myrcene in cannabinoids leading to a stronger payout.

It has been recommended to drink mango juice about an hour before a proper session to get the most benefit. But again, when it comes to cannabis, every person is unique and learning your own cannabis preferences and tolerance may take some careful experimentation.

5. Broccoli

Last but definitely not least, it’s no secret how wonderful broccoli can be for your health. From potassium content to collagen-building benefits, broccoli is one powerful superfood, and the anti-inflammatory properties have been reported to double with cannabis consumption.

Pain management is a top incentive for chronic pain patients, many of whom seek cannabis as an alternative to opioid painkillers; having a side of broccoli with cannabis could power up this side effect. The two both resemble trees, making them look kind of like distant cousins! In addition, broccoli is high in terpenes that bind with cannabinoids seamlessly, and may be beneficial in fighting depression as well.

Is there such a thing as a meal without fresh herbs? If there is, I’m sure it’s pretty tasteless. The job of these herbs is, of course, adding as much flavor as possible without overpowering the other ingredients in your meal. Here is a guide to fresh herbs to follow. 

They’re a pretty great companion to salt since sodium isn’t to be used too much. Don’t drop the whole salt shaker in the pot! One of the best things about herbs is that you can easily grow them yourself – but it’s ok if you’re not there yet, or the climate is against this daring adventure. You can just as well buy them at the market.

Sure, it might be tempting to go for dried herbs, since they’re much easier to handle. But dried herbs lose some of their nutritional value and we know that you want to make the most of the things you eat. But this begs the question: how to take care of them until you use them? A guide to fresh herbs: 5 things to know

1. How to choose herbs

It’s really not that complicated, this one. They should always have a bright, green color and their leaves should feel crisp. Crushed leaves are a no-no, and bruised herbs should be avoided at all costs. Other than that, it doesn’t matter what kind of packaging or labels they have.

2. How to store fresh herbs

Once you get them home, this is where it gets a bit more complicated. Remove their ties or rubber band that is keeping the bunch of them together. They need to breathe. Find a glass or a vase, pour some water into it, and treat the herbs like you would do flowers. DOn’t add too much water, though.

Keep them away from direct sunlight, wherever you place the glass. You can keep them like this for 2-3 days on the counter, or one week in the refrigerator. Just pay attention to them: you might have to change the water.

Another thing you can do? Wrap them in a damp paper towel and keep them in the fridge in a plastic bag. But this only works for herbs with short stems.

3.When to wash fresh herbs

Too much moisture can be bad for these herbs of yours. So don’t wash them until you’re ready to cook with them. Rinse them under some cold water, or you can place them in a colander and rinse them until you’re sure they’re impurity-free. After that, let them dry off a little on a towel.

4. How to prep fresh herbs

You’ll need to use a sharp knife because you don’t want to bruise the leaves. Your goal is to cut the herbs as cleanly as possible. For basil and other leafy herbs, you can prep them by doing a chiffonade. It’s pretty straightforward and we have a guide for you here.

But how do you handle non-leafy herbs? What do you do with rosemary and dill, for instance? Cut off the stems (for the dill) and make a pile with the herbs. Then just move the knife over the pile to make the pieces smaller.

5. How to freeze herbs

If you want to save some fresh herbs for the long winter, then use an ice cube tray! Chop the herbs, add them to some olive oil, then pour the mixture into the ice cube tray slots. Then freeze. The best part about this is that you just have to take out an oily and herby ice cube and use it directly in the pan. Do this just before the cold season, though, because they keep for about 2-3 months in the freezer.

Gordon Ramsay Reveals 10 Incredibly Useful Cooking Tricks

As busy as this guy is, it’s pretty awesome to see that Gordon Ramsay isn’t above sharing some of his kitchen tricks. In one of his latest videos, Chef Ramsay shares 10 different tips that makes working in the kitchen loads easier.

He covers stuff from chopping herbs and veggies to cooking meat faster. Seriously, you don’t have to be a professional chef to find these incredibly useful.

Chopping up herbs

Bunch up your herbs, it makes them easier to chop.

Quickly ripen fruit

If you have fruit that still hasn’t quite ripened, throw it into a brown paper bag along with a banana and set it in a dark place.

Peel & cut a mango

Slice into a mango and cut it up into squares along the skin. Then, bend the mango and cut out the even squares.

Getting rid of the heat of chillies from your finger

If you’re working with chillies, you’re not gonna want to touch your eyes anytime soon. The trick is to squirt lemon juice in your hands to get rid of that heat.

Cooking potatoes

Start off your potatoes in cold water, not hot. When they cook, the outer skin won’t fall apart.

Peeling a kiwi

Cut the kiwi in half and scoop it out with a teaspoon.

Cutting a bell pepper

Cut off the stalk and flip it over. Start from the top (formerly the bottom) and start slicing around the seeds. It makes the remaining pieces much easier to cut up.

Finding a ripe pineapple

Peel a leaf from the top of your questionable pineapple. If it comes off easily, it’s ripe.

Cooking meat faster

If you score meat, cutting multiple inch-deep gashes into the flesh, you’ll allow it to cook faster. It’ll also let the marinade sink deeper.

Keeping food from going brown

Cover your potatoes, avocados and apples in water and add some lemon. It’ll stop the oxidation process that causes them to turn brown.

Women Are Sticking Herbs In Their Vaginas For A Ridiculous Reason

When I heard that women were treating their vaginas like a turkey brine and sticking a bunch of herbs in there, I thought to myself, ‘That’s interesting. Let’s see what this is all about.’

Boy, do I wish I had never stumbled upon this, as this ended up being the most spine tingling story I’ve ever had to write.

People often turn to “detoxing” when they feel they need to cleanse themselves from drugs, alcohol, or the 37 cheeseburgers they ate last month, but it’s not often you hear about a vaginal detox.

Most normal people use herbs for their teas, or a good steak rub, but a company called Embrace Pangaea is encouraging women to use something called “Herbal Womb Detox Pearls.”

I went on the Embrace Pangaea site to find a nice high-resolution photo for this story and was immediately greeted by a photo that I can never un-see. I literally jumped out of my seat, spun around a couple of times, went outside for a walk around the block and re-evaluated if I wanted to keep writing this story.

I channeled my inner-Ice Cube and told myself — well, Ice Cube would just keep talking about it begrudgingly.

I clicked on more photos and each one was worse than the last, as a plethora of  “excess vaginal discharges” were on display. I gagged and had to stop myself from throwing up in front of my co-workers in the Foodbeast office. (Sorry, Ice Cube. I let you down.)

At this point, I just wanted this story to be over with, but I had to look into what people where saying about this herbal product.

Thankfully, I found that not everyone is on board with sticking gumbo ingredients up their lady parts.

Sure, Necole Bitchie posted a very sponsored-sounding Tweet about the vagina herbs, but people immediately opposed it:

Also, Dr. Jen Gunter, who among other things, treats Atrophic Vaginitis, was so opposed to this herbal detox that she put up a blog post explaining that the very photos that Embrace Pangaea posts, are evidence of how terrible the method is.

Dr. Gunter said:

“The vagina makes excess discharge when there is A) irritation B) infection C) an absence of good bacteria. This discharge isn’t some toxic swill that the vagina was hiding that only the “pearls” could release, it’s a sign that these “pearls” are damaging. Yes, leaving a product that is not designed for prolonged vaginal use (and these are not) in the vagina is a risk for toxic shock syndrome. Just don’t do it.”

So this herb-filled vaginal detox might not be the best thing for you, and hopefully, I’ll never have to write the term, “vaginal detox” in my life again. I wish I could detox the terrible things I saw today, but I’m not down to stab out my eyeballs.

The First Thanksgiving And What They REALLY Ate

Yankee has provided a brief rundown of the foods eaten at the first Thanksgiving, which was celebrated during the fall of 1621 at the Plymouth Colony in modern-day Massachusetts:

venison was a major ingredient, as well as fowl, but that likely included pheasants, geese, and duckTurkeys are a possibility, but were not a common food in that time. Pilgrims grew onions and herbsCranberries and currants would have been growing wild in the area, and watercress may have still been available if the hard frosts had held off, but there’s no record of them having been served. In fact, the meal was probably quite meat-heavy.

Likewise, walnuts, chestnuts, and beechnuts were abundant, as were sunchokes. Shellfish were common, so they probably played a part, as did beans, pumpkins, squashes, and corn (served in the form of bread or porridge), thanks to the Wampanoags.

The magazine also mentions a few items that were not eaten at the feast: “Potatoes (white or sweet), bread stuffing or pie (wheat flour was rare), sugar, Aunt Lena’s green bean casserole.”

Trader Joe’s Has Maple Toffee Sunflower Seeds To Snack On

Sunflower seeds have changed since our day. Back then all we had were unsalted, salted, ranch and BBQ-flavored. Trader Joe’s has announced the release of their newest item: Rosemary & Thyme Maple Toffee Sunflower seeds.

We kid you not.

The seeds are coated in a maple syrup and salted butter and fire-roasted until caramelized. They’re then seasoned with spices and herb flavors. Sunflower enthusiasts can find the seeds at Trader Joe’s locations for $1.99.

So Feces Wine is a Real Thing and According to This Japanese Girl Group, It Tastes ‘Delicious’

Inside: poop, pretty girls and booze. Shh, just come.

A couple months ago, Japanese news site Rocket News 24 got their hands on some bottles of tsongsul, a traditional Korean “feces wine,” made by soaking chicken, dog or human feces in soju alcohol until the mixture ferments – by no means a popular drink, but nevertheless rumored to cure illness and heal bone fractures.

While the site did manage to get a few, ahem, shits and giggles out of the whole thing, it turned out that after the initial smell and taste test, no one in the office actually wanted to drink the stuff. So Rocket did the only thing it could: found a Japanese all-girl air-band and tricked them into drinking it.

They told the girls they’d be trying a new Korean herbal wine. This was some of their early feedback:

“Yum! I don’t like shochu but I can drink this! That’s impressive, you know! It has a refined and elegant taste similar to that of wine. The color is also pleasant, similar to that charming translucency of rosé. This is sure to be popular with young women!”

“It tastes like those old Japanese candies they used to sell at supermarkets! This is delicious! What’s this sweetness, I wonder… It’s like Yomeishu (a traditional Japanese herbal liqueur), but with a different kind of sweetness. This would be great for girls who like sweet alcoholic beverages. I’d drink this again!”

“Oh, wow! When I heard this was medicinal herb wine I thought it would taste strong, but I was completely off the mark. This is really good, and easy to drink. I think this could be a hit with girls.”

Of course, after the truth was divulged, the girls completely changed their imaginary-instrument-playing tunes and insisted the drink tasted like poop, but with such a drastic turn, it would seem the only way to know the true taste of tsongsul would be to try it for yourself.

Or you could, you know, do almost anything else and not seem so absolutely disgusting.
