Las Vegas Hawaiian Joint Packs Traditional Plate Lunches Into BURRITOS

Hawaii’s quintessential meal has to be the traditional plate lunch. It’s simple in delivery, consisting of two scoops of rice, a scoop of mac salad, and your choice of protein. That no-frills combination is big on flavor, making it a noshworthy feast regardless of which meat you choose.

On the US mainland, a joint called Fist of Fusion puts their own creative spin on the traditional Aloha State fare. They cram all of the above and some veggies into a tortilla to make an EPIC Hawaiian Plate Lunch Burrito.

At their locations in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, you can get the burrito stuffed with teriyaki chicken katsu. It comes with a deep-fried chicken breast, Hawaiian teriyaki sauce, rice, mac salad, grilled veggies, tropical slaw, and a honey chipotle aioli drizzle. In Vegas, you can level up  and get beef short rib and kimchi salsa stuffed inside as well.

Foodbeast Editor-in-Chief and boss of burrito busts Elie Ayrouth was ecstatic to discover the burrito because, for him, it was a delicious blast from the past.

“I got introduced to whatever California-ized version of plate lunches that I was told were Hawaiian-inspired during my high school days. Loved it with a fierce nostalgia… [Fist of Fusion’s] burrito form was the culmination. Sweet from the sauce, wet from the mac, hearty from the chicken.”

For those who love the plate lunch as much as Ayrouth, or just want a portable meal bursting with flavor, this burrito crammed with the ono kine grindz is the way to go.

Hawaiian food on the fly

Craving: Kalua Pig & Cabbage

In high school I had a lot of friends that were from the Pacific Rim. One thing they introduced me to was Hawaiian barbecue, and I haven’t turned back ever since. Kalua pig and cabbage is probably one of my favorite things to eat. Add a side of rice and macaroni salad and I’m like a kid in a candy shop. I think I’ll visit L&L Barbecue to get some just about now. (PixThx Maona)

Craving: Hawaiian BBQ / Chicken Katsu

Wherever you have to go to get yourself a plate of Hawaiian BBQ, please don’t hesitate a moment longer! We post a majority of our Craving postings in the late night hours because let’s face it…when do you crave more than when you’re up late at night?! Right now I have a strange hankering for deep fried chicken katsu, beautiful macaroni salad and white rice. I just want to smother them all with hot sauce and their special sauce, finish the plate in a few minutes, and artificially induce sleep. One of my personal favorite spots to get this dish, L&L Hawaiian BBQ! (PicThx cloudy)

Craving: Hawaiian Meatloaf Sandwich

Hawaiian BBQ is definitely my guilty pleasure. Ever since high school, my friends have graciously turned me onto the likes of places like L&L and other local Hawaiian BBQ spin offs. For this session of craving, we have an item that is most likely not at your local Hawaiian BBQ spot, the Hawaiian Meatloaf Sandwich; which is a bun stuffed with meatloaf, macaroni salad, gravy and pineapple. Don’t discriminate until you’ve tried this luscious combination of items, it’s glorious! Eat on! (PicThx Peanut Butter & Ghosts)

Waikiki Hawaiian Grill (Orange)

Waikiki is a local Hawaiian BBQ spot, a lot like the already popular L&L. After doing some bike work over at Elie’s, he, his brother and I decided to cruise and get some food. It was oh so good, my iphone told me so.
