Krispy Kreme Introduces Customizable Doughnuts, New Items and Revamped Store Design

Krispy Kreme unveiled today that, for the first time in nearly a decade, they plan to overhaul their stores. This includes aesthetic changes to the shop itself, introduction of a mobile order system, and some interesting tweaks and additions to the menu. 

Besides introducing new doughnuts, Krispy Kreme has also opted to let people make their own. 

Starting with an un-glazed doughnut, there will be the option to choose between five glazes, ten toppings, and five drizzles. So imagine the possibilities you can come up with.

Also new to the menu is an Original Glazed Doughnut-infused ice cream. 

Doughnuts and ice cream — it’d be absolutely criminal to not make an ice cream sandwich. And that they did. The ice cream sandwich features a scoop of the new ice cream in between a glazed doughnut, with your option of toppings and drizzles. 

In addition, they’ll be hand spinning milkshakes with the new ice cream. The shakes come in five different flavors (Vanilla Glazed, Double Chocolate, Salty Caramel, Classic Strawberry, and OREO® Cookies & Kreme™) and are topped with whipped cream and a mini-Original Glazed Doughnut.

The new store design is a clean, streamlined look consisting of white brick walls with hits of green steel that retains the brand’s classic style while giving it a modern edge. It also includes an update to the famed doughnut theater, which will now show even more of the doughnut making process.

The first of these re-designed shops is launching in Concord, North Carolina on Tuesday, July 23rd, and another 45 are planned to launch throughout the U.S. by 2020. Existing stores will also receive a renovation. 

Soon, people all over will be able to watch every step of their doughnut being made and then get to customize it to their exact liking. Now that’s brand transparency.

ENLIGHTENED Just Released Glazed Donut Ice Cream And It Tastes Just Like A Real Donut

Glazed. Donut. Ice. Cream.

How have the big ice cream confectioners not thought of this creative mash-up of flavors until today?

This concoction was lauded profusely by Editor-In-Chief Elie Ayrouth, who busted into the FOODBEAST office gushing “Glazed Donut ice cream exists!” and “Dude, it tastes like a glazed donut!” as he shoved a pint into the face of Reach Guinto, FOODBEAST’s Managing Editor.

This flavor, which is one of five recently revealed by ENLIGHTENED Ice Cream, is a spark of imagination and ambition, to say the least.

Built on a philosophy of “more protein, less sugar,” ENLIGHTENED has created a line up of more than 25 dope flavors that all manage the balance of incredible taste while remaining in the low-cal spectrum, with some flavors containing as few as 300 calories per pint.   

If there’s one thing you should know about ENLIGHTENED, it’s that they don’t skimp on the mix-ins. They’re not afraid to go beyond the basic “low cal” ice cream to get you the truly awesome flavor you crave plus extra protein and way less sugar than a traditional scoop.  

FOODBEAST has kept a close eye on ice cream trends, so it was only natural for Elie to grab the entire lineup of ENLIGHTENED flavors for the staff to try out.   

“It was the closest to real ice cream compared to other low calorie competitors,” Reach assessed after nearly polishing off a pint. “It was creamier and smoother. Movie Night was my favorite flavor—it really captured the buttery popcorn taste.”

The Glazed Donut flavor is just one of five new ENLIGHTENED flavors, the others being Movie Night (buttered popcorn ice cream, chocolate bits, and caramel sauce), French Toast, Cookies & Cream, and S’mores.

FOODBEAST staff writer and ice cream connoisseur Isai Rocha said he usually stays away from “low calorie” ice creams because he doesn’t enjoy the “low cal” after-taste, but was pleasantly surprised after trying ENLIGHTENED.    

“The Movie Night flavor tripped me out, because it actually smelled like buttery popcorn from the theater,” he explained.

Friday June 1st is National Donut Day, and to commemorate, eco-friendly spirit brand Vodka 360 has revealed their latest flavor: 360 Glazed Donut.

While the drink may sound decadent, the company notes that while an average glazed donut can run you around 250 calories, each 1.0 ounce shot of the 360 Glazed Donut vodka will only set you back 80 calories. But let’s be serious, if this is a liquid vodka version of a glazed donut, we’ll need the calorie count on the entire bottle. Actually, according to some Webtender figures, finishing the entire bottle will credit you with 2,040 calories…and bruised knees from hugging the toilet the next morning (rage responsibly).

360 Vodka has tapped into one of the hottest current trends in mixology — confectionery flavors. The new 360 Glazed Donut 750ml has already begun shipping to retailers across the country, so if you’re down for the sweeter and potentially sloppier things in life, you might want to give it a whirl — in the name of National Donut Day, or something like that.

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt Chain Reveals a New Glazed Donut Flavor

As part of a limited time offering, Menchie’s frozen yogurt chain is offering a new “glazed donut” flavor. The new donut flavor, which launched recently, is a lowfat flavor with live and active cultures. It is also gluten-free, kosher and uses no high fructose corn syrup.

The Menchie’s chain, founded back in 2007, has over 100 locations across the United States and Canada.
