Krispy Kreme’s Caramel Chocolate Chip Cake Donut Pretty Much Combines Every Dessert Except Ice Cream

Or, “How to give yourself diabeetus in under three bites.”

Let’s be honest, who isn’t tired of croissant desserts these days? Thankfully, Krispy Kreme didn’t jump on the whole flaky mille-feuille bandwagon and instead ran in the opposite direction, right into the dense, chocolatey arms of its limited time Caramel Chocolate Chip Cake Donut.

Featuring a chocolate cake donut topped with caramel icing and Ghirardelli chocolate chips, the CCCCD is, needless to say, sweet. “Overly sweet,” according Brand Eating, with the caramel icing lacking the necessary butteriness, which is thankfully made up for by the rich cocoas of the donut and chocolate chips.

Like most sugary sweets though, Krispy Kreme’s dessert Frankenstein should be easily tamed by a healthy hunk of light vanilla ice cream. Come now, you’ve already raided the rest of the bakery. Go hard or go home.

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain Opened in Disney’s California Adventure Theme Park

Chocolate fans, prepare to lose your minds! Disney fans, prepare to lose your minds! Disney has openend a Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop in its Disney California Adventure theme park.

With a Ghirardelli shop already in its Florida location, Disney took its chocolatey, ice creamy goodness to the west coast location.

Ghirardelli is based in San Francisco, so strategically, the soda shop was placed in Disney California Adventure’s San Francisco-inspired Pacific Wharf area.

Disneyland Resort president George A. Kalogridis, Disney California Adventure park vice president Mary Niven, CEO of Lindt & Sprüngli (Ghirardelli’s Swiss Daddy) Ernst Tanner, and of course Mickey and Minnie were all at the June 7 grand opening.

For those planning to visit the soda fountain, you’ll be glad to hear that, as in every Ghirardelli shop, complimentary samples of its chocolate are given to guests at the door.

To give a taste of what the menu would look like, the Ghirardelli Facebook page reads that, “Guests can enjoy signature World Famous Hot Fudge Sundaes, shakes, and floats, plus a delicious assortment of chocolates and beautifully wrapped gifts.”

It sounds like the Disney Soda Fountain located within the Los Angeles El Capitan movie Theater, but bigger, better and with more chocolate.

Ghirardelli was founded in California in 1852 by Domingo Ghirardelli and has shops and soda fountains across the U.S.

Do you believe in Chocolatey Magic?

Ghirardelli’s New Flavor — Intense Dark Sea Salt Soiree

Ghiradelli’s latest offering, the Intense Dark Sea Salt Soiree is an all-natural blend of sweet dark chocolate, slow-roasted almonds and coarse crystals of sea salt. The product enjoys walking a fine line between sweet and saltiness, with a flavor description that boasts “peaks of saltiness” and a variety of “bold-flavored pairings”. Damn, classiness just took a turn for the sweet.

Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Raspberry Brownies

I love ordinary brownies, they’re an old fashion favorite of mine but the more more loaded they are with nuts and scrumptious filling or toppings the better! Adding Ghirardelli chocolate squares to your brownies is an easy and innovative way to jazz it up. The ones shown here are dark chocolate raspberry brownies, made by throwing Ghirardelli Dark & Raspberry squares into the batter and one WHOLE square on top of each serving! The cool thing about this recipe is that you can alter it any way you like. If you don’t like the raspberry and chocolate combo, no problem. Try throwing in Ghriradelli chocolate caramel of mint squares. Here’s the original recipe by gingerbreadbagels.

Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Raspberry Brownies

3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1Tablespoons vanilla extract
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 (3.5 ounce) Ghirardelli Dark & Raspberry Bar
9 Ghirardelli Dark & Raspberry Squares (from a 5.32 ounce package of individually wrapped chocolate squares)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift together the flour, cocoa powder and kosher salt into a bowl. Set aside.
In a bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, mix together the brown sugar, sugar, melted butter and vanilla extract for about 3 minutes.
Add in the eggs, one a time. Mix until completely combined.

Slowly add in the dry ingredients and mix until almost combined. Take a spatula and fold the ingredients together to combine.

Lightly grease an 8 by 8 inch baking pan. Spread half of the brownie batter in the bottom of the baking pan. Set aside.

Take 1 Ghirardelli Dark & Raspberry Bar and cut the bar into 8 pieces. (along the creases in the bar, don’t cut through the raspberry centers)

Place the pieces on top of the brownie batter. There doesn’t have to be a specific pattern to it. The raspberry flavor will go throughout the brownies.

Spread the remaining brownie batter on top. I use a spatula and my fingers to help spread the batter into the corners of the pan.

Bake the brownies at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Cool on a cooling rack for about 25-30 minutes. At this point the brownies should still be slightly warm but not hot.
Then take 9 Ghirardelli Dark & Raspberry Squares and press them very carefully on top of the slightly warm brownies.
