Crazy Russian Hacker Uses Mortars To Blow Up Watermelons

The Crazy Russian Hacker, a DIY celebrity YouTuber who is constantly posting quirky videos of his sometimes useful — sometimes questionable — experiments, has been posting some pretty incredible videos as of late. A few weeks ago, he showed us how to make liquid nitrogen ice cream, which looked simple and delicious.

So this week, possibly to continue with the summer food theme, the Russian and his gang of cronies are using mortars, which are really powerful fireworks (and another summer themed item), to blow up watermelons. This time, however, for some added visual stimulation, they recorded it in slow motion.

While there’s little science behind this experiment, it still takes them a few tries to really get the watermelons to explode perfectly. Once they do, it’s remarkably mesmerizing. It’s even more mesmerizing when played back in slow motion.

We’re not here to tell you that using mortars to blow apart watermelons is a good idea, and we advise adult supervision if you decide to go against our wishes and use powerful explosives to destroy fruit.

It’s your life.

That being said, you can just as easily create liquid nitrogen ice cream and add watermelon for some extra flavor — without the fear or consequence of blowing off a limb.

This Dude Carves AWESOME Skulls From Fruits And Veggies

Have you ever wondered what a vegetable carved into a skull would look like? Me neither. But we all probably have that one friend that’s weirdly obsessed with skulls. I’m lookin’ at you, Jenn. Weirdo.

Well, Russian dreamer and sculptor Dimitri Tsykalov did, and we’re stoked about it.

For a little over two and a half decades now, Tsykalov has been commenting on society’s woes through his modern art.

While a good number of his pieces were made to incite thought (like guns made from deli meats and bearskin rugs made from ammunition boxes), most of them are just made for fun, like the skulls made from fruits and vegetables.

What makes these skulls particularly special is the way they are made. Tsykalov uses knives, spoons, scalpels and power drills, but it’s still all done by hand.

Even after they are made, the artistry doesn’t stop there. These beautifully haunting skulls actually become much more lifelike once they start rotting a bit.

Tsykalov also never used any computer programs to enhance or pixelate any of his work, as he correctly assumed it would take away from the inherent beauty of it all.

Dimitri’s latest work revolves around building model cars out of wood, including a Rolls Royce and a Porsche.

General Mills Is Getting Rid Of All Artificial Colors From Their Cereals

General-Mills-Cuts

General Mills has announced they’re getting rid of artificial ingredients. This means the company’s cereals will no longer feature all the bright colors at typically come with artificial flavors and colors.

No longer will the brand be associated with artificial dyes like Blue 1, Yellow 6 and Red 40. Among the cereals that will be affected with this change are Cocoa Puffs, Reese’s Puffs and Trix. Changes will be implemented by the end of this year.

According to General Mills, the cereal’s colors will now come from fruit and vegetable concentrates as well as spices.

Reeses-GM-Puffs

General Mills released a product shot of Reese’s Puffs as they look now with a projected look as to how they’ll look once the artificial coloring is removed and natural colors are utilized.

The two look pretty much identical.

However, cereals with blue and greens in them like Trix will no longer feature the two colors. The difficulty in replacing the artificial blues with a natural alternative means that General Mills is dropping the color entirely. No blue means no green, either.

Expect to find the new, more natural cereals in grocery store shelves sometime at the end of this year.
