El Pollo Loco’s Overstuffed Quesadillas Are Back In Four New Flavors

Photo Courtesy of El Pollo Loco.

The crazy chicken chain is back at it with a new line of quesadillas that look a hell of a lot like Taco Bell’s Crunchwraps.

After dropping “Overstuffed Quesadillas” for a limited time last year, El Pollo Loco brought them back Wednesday. Don’t let the shape fool you: while the Overstuffed Quesadillas look like Taco Bell’s iconic Crunchwrap on the outside, the insides couldn’t be more different.

Whereas Taco Bell crams ordinary Southwest chain taco fillings into their Crunchwrap, each of El Pollo Loco’s Overstuffed Quesadillas contains their signature flame-grilled chicken, cheese, a variety of vegetables, salsas, and additional ingredients that help make up four different wrapped creations.

Those four new flavors are as follows:

Chicken Cheddar Bacon, with caramelized onions and smoked Cheddar cheese

Southwest Chicken Avocado

Chicken Nacho, with pickled jalapenos and a tostada shell inside

Chicken Fajita Avocado

Each one sells for just over six bucks, making it a hefty yet portable on-the-go meal. The new Overstuffed Quesadillas are a limited-time offering, and while there’s no confirmed date as to when they’ll disappear, I’d go check these new wraps out sooner rather than later.

El Pollo Loco Lets Customers Have It Their Way with New ‘Create Your Own’ Bowls

El Pollo Loco sounds like they’re taking a cue from Chipotle’s burrito bowls with their new “Create Your Own” bowl options. Starting at $5.79, the chicken chain lets customers design their own custom meals by choosing from various proteins, sides and toppings.

Creating a bowl is as easy as 1, 2, 3; customers can choose one protein from chicken breast, carnitas, or chicken thigh, oh, and you can double your meat a la Chipotle style for $1.50. To complete their custom bowl, customers can choose two sides (rice, black beans, pinto beans, broccoli), three toppings (avocado, sour cream, pico de gallo, cotija cheese, jack cheese, mango salsa, guacamole, corn), and then finish off their bowl with a sauce of choice: poblano salsa, queso, enchilada sauce or creamy cilantro dressing.

The “Create Your Own” bowls will be available for about five weeks and are available via drive-thru and in-store.

El Pollo Loco Sells Mexican S’mores Wrapped in a Chocolate Tortilla

That’s it, I’m done guys. Warm, melty s’mores wrapped in chocolate tortillas exist and now I don’t know what to do with myself. Looking to befuddle our palates, El Pollo Loco seems to have hit a spark of genius with their latest, limited-time offering: Mexican S’mores. Yes, that’s really what they’re calling them.

The new item features mini marshmallows and chocolate chips melted over graham crackers and stuffed into a 12-inch chocolate flour tortilla wrapped into a hexagon-shaped quesadilla dusted with powdered sugar. Honestly, the entire thing sounds like a giant pocket of eat-me-now-ask-questions later, which is something we’re 100 percent ok with.

You can swoop one up for $1.99 and pair it with a cozy cup of hot chocolate. Go crazy kids!

El Pollo Loco Rolls Out New Signature Summer Burritos, With Two Weeks Left of Summer

Summertime is for the birds, AKA the hype-obsessed little tweeters chasing down the latest Maple Bacon Cronut Burgers or “Fiery” Flame-Ass Tacos we all turn into whenever there aren’t any looming paper deadlines to worry about. Well, we all know how this story ends. Sooner or later (sooner), over-saturation starts setting in. We start craving home cooked meals again, missing foods that look and taste the way they’re supposed to instead of some crazy mash-up of at least five different food-like chemicals and compounds. All things considered, it’s probably a really brilliant move for El Pollo Loco to launch its new “summer” burritos so late into the season. If pitted against a Cronut, goodness knows we wouldn’t have paid them any attention otherwise.

Available for a limited time only, El Pollo Loco is offering three new Signature Summer Chicken Burritos, a Chicken & Chorizo, Chicken Bacon Avocado and Chicken Fajita, each served in a warm 12-inch flour tortilla, each starting at $5.49.

Here’s how the press release describes them:

The Chicken Bacon Avocado Burrito features El Pollo Loco’s signature citrus-marinated, fire-grilled chicken, bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, and ripe hand-sliced California avocado, dressed with fresh handmade pico de gallo salsa and creamy cilantro dressing.

The Chicken Fajita Burrito features Monterey Jack cheese, black beans, fire-grilled chicken, ripe hand-sliced California avocado, and a blend of seared peppers and onions topped with poblano cream sauce.

The Chicken & Chorizo Burrito features Authentic Mexican Rice, tender, slow-simmered pinto beans in a creamy stock with Mexican spices, chorizo, fire-grilled chicken, Monterey Jack cheese, fresh green cabbage and hand-chopped onions sprinkled with fresh cilantro and dressed with poblano salsa.

And there you have it. No portmanteaus to be seen, no inception-level concoctery here. (Not up in here!) Basically, El Pollo Loco is owning its boring-ness in a way that will still probably taste pretty damn amazing. Go on EPL, you do you. You do you.

El Pollo Loco Gets Cray with New Chicken Stuffed Quesadillas

The television spot for El Pollo Loco’s three new chicken Stuffed Quesadillas features one hyper-enthusiastic employee asking his scared young guest if it’s “crazy” to “stuff a quesadilla full of fire-grilled chicken” and “fresh avocado,” to “create an entirely new fold that wraps each ingredient into a symphony of authentic flavors.”

Well El Pollo Loco guy, if it is crazy, we don’t want you to be sane.

Upgrading from the Stuffed Pork Carnitas Quesadillas released last month, the new flavors include Chicken Bacon Guacamole, Barbecue Chicken and Chicken Avocado. Each variety comes in at around 11 to 14 ounces for 880, 910 or 980 calories respectively. Go figure.

These tortilla-busting bad boys are available now for a limited time; promotional coupons to be mailed out within the next two weeks.
