The Best Way to Get a Second Date Involves Sushi and Cocktails, Study Says

sushhh-e1454549935780

According to a new study, sharing sushi and cocktails on your first date increases the likelihood of a second date taking place.

Match’s sixth annual Singles in America study used data surveyed from 5,504 U.S. singles between the ages of 18 to 70 to “reveal the pulse of the single’s psyche,” according to Dr. Helen Fisher, anthropologist and Match’s chief scientific advisor.

“Moreover, this year we focused on the crucial ‘second date,’ a vital courtship step that has been seriously understudied until now,” Fisher said in a post on the company’s blog.

According to the study, a good bet to land that coveted second date is having the first one at a sushi restaurant. A meal of sushi increases the chances of a second date by 107%.

Adding mixed alcohol drinks also boosts the chances of a second date. Ordering cocktails on a first date increases the odds of a second date by 137%. Drinking beer or wine won’t have the same impact.

The study also found that singles who use “LOL” and “haha” over text increase their odds of a match. Laughing over text increases the odds of a second date by 255% and the chances of sex with a date by 39%.

Whatever singles do, they shouldn’t skip food and drinks on a first date. Those that do are 107% less likely to land a second date, according to the study.

Canadian Foodie Goes on Blind Dates to Score Free Food, Then Blogs About It

foodie1

Good news, food-loving sociopaths. It turns out it’s completely possible to leverage your good looks and not-so-winning personality to nab yourself a free meal. Just take it from Erin Wotherspoon, the 24-year-old Toronto actress who’s been working her way down a 48-restaurant hit list simply by 1) pretending to be Jewish, 2) dating recent ex-pats, and 3) presumably, fake-laughing at all of her dates’ awful jokes.

Her tumblr’s called A Penniless Girl, Bad Dates & Plenty of Oysters, and judging by the archive, Wotherspoon’s been doing this since August — tricking guys into taking her to all her foodie bucket list restaurants and then never calling them again. It’s not all about man-killing though. As Wotherspoon writes, “This just in, sometimes women don’t have the best intentions. […] This girl is looking for love in her lobster roll, not your academic achievements…”

foodie2

In other words, biddie’s just looking for a good meal.

The blog also features some dating highlights courtesy of a few of her more promising suitors, including one guy who admits he doesn’t know what she looks like, and another who calls himself “Mr. Wonderful.” You almost can’t blame her for not calling.

Unfortunately for her, not everyone sympathizes. The good citizens of Reddit have recently made Wotherspoon internet famous, calling her everything from “sociopathic” to “bigoted” to, nicely enough, worth the “$20.” Recent posts indicate she has no intention of stopping, however, and some even muse about her scoring “richer guys” now thanks to her newfound infamy.

What about you, loyal Foodbeasts? Is Wotherspoon’s work that of a heartless (albeit well-fed) sociopath, or is she actually kind of genius?

(Full disclosure: Goodness knows I wish I’d thought of it first.)

Picnic Backpack Guarantees First Date Success

picnic-backpack

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s about damn time we stepped our first date game up. Dinner at your go-to Italian restaurant isn’t going to make her swoon and watching Fast and the Furious 273 isn’t going to make him tumble head over heels.

No, it’s time to take things to the next level with the Picnic Backpack.

The canvas pack comes decked out with plates, goblets, utensils, cloth napkins, and a cozy blanket for you and your date to cuddle under. There’s a detachable wine cooler on the side for pinot noir or some bubbly, plus a large insulated compartment to keep your food cool.

Of course, the impressive part comes in the attention to detail, as the backpack also includes salt and pepper shakers, a wooden cutting board and a corkscrew (which you know how elusive those can be).

So, next time you’re trying to impress, invite your date to a modern-day picnic. Break out the wine and cheese plates, then follow it up with a steak dinner while soaking in Mother Nature. Might as well do it proper the first time around.

As you can see, we got ours personalized. Swag.

First Date Cutlery Supposedly Makes Dinner Less Awkward

FDC-Opener

I don’t know about you, but I hate being fed by anyone except myself.  Got something tasty on your plate? I’m reaching over and snagging it, thankyouverymuch.  Luckily, I’ve been very fortunate in my dining (and dating) partners, and haven’t needed to slap anyone. Yet.  But I’ll tell you who I do want to slap: the inventor of First Date Cutlery.

First Date Cutlery is designed by Cristina Guardiola, who claims the set responds “directly to appropriate advice in Debrett’s Etiquette, enhancing the prospect of correct use and diminishing that of an unfortunate faux-pas.” This eliminates any concern for etiquette, and allows both parties to relax and “focus less on formality.”

Oh but wait. It gets better. Because if you manage to make it through dinner without your date running away, there’s the dessert spoon that’s “made for two people sharing one dish”. Barf.

FDC-Lady-Being-Fed…I’m pretty sure if I’m trying to figure out how to use my weird sideways spoon, I’m not relaxed or enjoying my date.  But maybe that’s just me?

Tasty Doughnut Facts Even a Cop Wouldn’t Know [INFOGRAPHIC]

donut-info

I woke up this morning to the following frantic, albeit delightful, text message from my best friend: “FREE DONUTS AT KRISPY KREME. I AM CURRENTLY STUFFING MY PIE HOLE WITH MOUNDS OF FROSTED CALORIFFICNESS.”

Boy, I’m already way ahead of you.

In case you’re lost in a temporary state of befuddlement, here’s a quick FYI — it’s National Donut Day today. No, the internet didn’t just decide to bring out their inner fat kid this morning for funsies. Rather, America is celebrating their die-hard obsession with fried bits of sugared glory.

In light of this, the folks over at that dusty text book of names and addresses WhitePages have thrown together an infographic detailing this country’s love for donuts. Apparently, 10 people  in the US bear the name Doughnut or Donut, while Boston holds the record for most donut shops per person (1 donut shop for every 2480 people).

So grab a cup of coffee and a pink box of every donut flavor under the sun while you peruse through this tasty infographic.

Turns Out Handcuffing Yourself to Your Taco Bell Coworker Won’t Land You a Date

handcufftacobell

There’s something really sweet, really heartwarming, about persistence. And then there’s this guy.

Last Monday, Georgian Taco Bell employee Jason Earl Dean, 25, was sentenced to four years in jail and six years probation, for handcuffing himself to his 18 -year-old coworker to get a date.

This was, mind you, after she’d already rejected him and had her shifts changed just so she could avoid him.

Naturally, Dean is not allowed to have any contact with the victim or her family, though that pile of flirty hot sauce packets does seem pretty suspicious.
