Someone Just Loaded Noodles Into A Jumbo Stuffed Crab Claw And We’re Shook

Ever heard of Yeung Hai Kim? This dim sum item consists of a soft-shell crab claw stuffed inside a deep-fried ball of ground shrimp and spices. It’s easily one of the more mouthwatering items in a dim sum spread on its own, but one restaurant is upping the ante by creating a MASSIVE noodle stuffed crab claw. (Seriously, this thing is as big as a softball.)

Modern Asian restaurant Clever Leaf is making the item exclusively for Foodbeast’s Asian food festival, NOODS NOODS NOODS presented by Original Cup Noodles on January 27th in Santa Ana, CA. Their rendition on this dim sum classic features garlicky noodles made with a savory lobster sauce. Those noodles are then crammed inside of a shrimp patty, which gets the typical soft shell crab claw stabbed into the outside. The entire item then takes a trip to the deep fryer where it’s cooked to a perfect golden brown.

What makes the noodle stuffed crab claw even more exciting is the fact that it’s technically portable. You can hold it by the crab claw and munch your away around the rest of the festival, showing off your epic dim sum twist to the world. Just be careful not to get pinched.

Those hoping to score one of these massive claws should pick up some VIP tickets to NOODS NOODS NOODS, as Clever Leaf’s innovative item will only be available in one of the two all-you-can-consume sessions going on during the festival. There’s also tickets to the Marketplace for those looking to just buy a couple of items to nosh on.

Disturbing Video Shows Live Crab Eating Veggies While Getting Fried

You can’t help but visibly shudder watching the below video of a live crab eating veggies as it is getting cooked alive. Seriously, it’s almost kind of sad watching the crustacean frantically scurry around the hot pan for some food.

China Global Television Network posted the shocking footage above, which was reportedly taken in the city of Changsha late last month. The actual rough video, which lasts about five seconds, shows the crab sitting in oil as it runs around, nibbling at the leeks and chilies in the pan in an attempt to sustain itself before dying.

People on Twitter who saw the video had mixed reactions to what they saw:

To be clear, though, this is NOT the proper way to kill a crab humanely. Ideally, the crab should be dead before it goes into your pan or pot. If you still have the stomach for it, below is a video demonstration on how to properly kill a crab in a humane fashion. If you’re working with live crabs at home, this is the way to go.

Wokcano’s Monkey Brain Sushi Roll Is Truly Insane

In a society driven by innovation, not even food is safe. So, it’s easy to see how the brilliant culinary minds at Wokcano, who have been serving Asian-inspired cuisine in Southern California since 2009, have used their collective gastronomic intelligence to dream up their latest item — The Monkey Brain.

While Wokcano’s newest menu item isn’t exactly what it sounds like, the concept behind the naming convention seems to fit the primary characteristics. Named after its visual presentation, Wokcano’s Monkey Brain contains sliced avocado, crab meat, and spicy tuna, fried in tempura batter, and topped with a spicy eel sauce.

While its name might turn a few heads — the Monkey Brain can only be found at Wokcano at MainPlace Mall.

This Cool Coastal Sandwich Is Topped With A Fried Soft Shell Crab

Fish, urchins, octopus, eel; with so many delectable protein options out there to offer, it is no wonder we so often look to the sea for new ideas and inspiration when it comes to food. If you disagree, ask yourself: are you feeling crabby?

Those lucky enough to live along the southern California coastline can embrace their crabby sides by enjoying a Fried Soft Shell Sandwich, the newest addition to the menu at West Coast Fish in Costa Mesa, CA.

Photos by Peter Pham

The concept was created by West Coast’s Roy Abi-Najm. Inside the sandwich, you will find a whole fried soft shell crab, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and ‘bootleg Mac sauce’ — all on one perfectly palm-sized bun.

The combination of crunchy crab and classic sandwich toppings make for a fresh, West Coast twist, and the taste of the sandwich overall is reminiscent of the salty sea itself. It also makes you want to dip your toes into the Pacific — and pronto!

The special promotion item can be yours for a mere $10 — for a limited time only at West Coast Fish. A portion of each purchase also benefits Project Hope Alliance.

This briny beauty is fit for just about anyone living above sea level.

This Poor Crab Has Oysters Literally Growing Out Of Its Face

This poor crab looks like the result of a seafood Frankenstein experiment gone wrong.

The Washington Post reports that the mayor of Chesapeake Bay’s Tangier Island, James “Ooker” Eskridge, found this bizarre crustacean with oysters literally growing out of its head (and next to its eyes) last week in his crab pot.

The Frankencrab, which experts at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation confirmed to the Post to still be alive as of Wednesday, came to be because oyster larvae are running out of places to anchor themselves for growth. Pollution in the Chesapeake Bay has significantly diminished the amount of reefs that the mollusks could attach themselves to, so the larvae have had to turn to new locations like old oyster shells and live crab shells.

In fact, local fisherman have dug up crabs with tiny oysters attached to claws or other parts of their body before, but it’s extremely rare to see oysters so big sprouting right next to the crab’s eyes.

Unfortunately, the poor crab has had to deal with some harsh consequences for becoming the unwitting home for the shellfish. Chesapeake Bay Foundation spokesperson Tom Zolper states that because the oysters are so close to the crab’s eyes, it likely cannot see straight ahead and can only look upward. The crustacean has probably tried to knock the oysters off using its claws, but obviously failed since they wouldn’t still be there otherwise.

This disturbing combo of crab and oyster may be seen more frequently since pollution has been identified as a reason this abomination happened in the first place. Considering that the current administration recently decided to pull us out of a global climate change effort that committed the United States to decreasing pollution, that chance is now even more likely.

7 Times Seafood Made Us Terrified To Go In The Water

The ocean can be a terrifying place. In the vast depths, the denizens that dwell beneath can sometimes be even more terrifying.

We dug around and found seven instances where seafood has simply made us fear the water.

So the next time you enjoy your fresh seafood platter, take a second to appreciate the work it took to get your food plated in front of you. As you can see from the seven tales presented below, you can bet your seafood put up a fight.

Spider Crabs Molting

Watching a creature molt and casting aside its current shell for a stronger skin, can make a person uneasy. Now imagine if you were exploring undersea life and come across THOUSANDS of these vicious spider crabs molting at the same time. Makes you want to rethink the crab fest at your local crab shack, right?

Eel Man

While the only tale that doesn’t take place in the water, it still makes us fear a bare-bottom encounter with a live eel. This dude in Asia decided it was a good idea to put a live eel up his butt to help clear out his constipation. The terrified eel did some damage to the man’s stomach and had to be removed through surgery after it died.

The takeaway from all of this? Eat more fiber.

Shrimp v Dragon Fish

When’s the last time you had some fresh shrimp and fish ceviche? Well if you never want to see how the sausage is made, you’ll definitely want to steer clear of this video.

OK, this isn’t really how ceviche is made. It is, however, a graphic video of a shrimp tearing open the stomach of a dragon fish to pull out an even SMALLER fish. A cut scene straight out of Mortal Kombat, this is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Hungry Clams Beach

Imagine you’re chilling at the beach and thousands of hungry clams emerge from the sand like a scene straight out of a horror movie? This terrifying footage captures exactly that.

A haunting sight for some, and the freshest seafood buffet for others. It’s all about perspective.

Spider Crabs Tearing Apart Octopus

This octopus was going about its day, heading home from a long day of flipping algae burgers, when it was confronted by a cast of crabs. Spider crabs to be exact.

The cast of crustaceans tear this innocent octopus apart, making short work of the cephalopod mollusk. Check out the brutal video at your own risk.

Clam Digging

Footage of this peculiar clam tunneling its way into the sand may appear whimsical at first. However, imagine if this were the reverse. You’re standing on the shore, barefoot, when a giant clam digs its way out of the sand like a scene straight out of Tremors.

Not so cute, huh?

As Foodbeast’s resident man of science Constantine Spyrou would say:

I ain’t saying she’s a clam digger.

Jimmy Johns Man

Sometimes the greatest sea monster isn’t from the sea. Such was the case with this guy that strongly resembled Jimmy Johns’ founder Jimmy John Liataud who had a photo go viral where he was allegedly shown humping a dead shark.

Not the proudest moment for land lubbers, that’s for sure.

We later found that it wasn’t actually Liataud, but an NYC police officer named Shawn.

Stay classy, officer.

Crazy Australian Teaches A Crab To Open His Beer Bottle [WATCH]

There are several slick ways to open a beer bottle if a proper opener isn’t present, but this might be one of the craziest.

An Australian man posted a Snapchat video of himself using the claw of a living, moving crab to open his bottle. He had quite a bit of faith that the crab would reach for the bottle and not try to snap off one of his fingers, and it worked out somehow.

The video shows the crab clawing at the cap, and using its crab strength to rip it right off.

If you don’t have a crab lying around to open your beer, you can use the old school bottle-opening tooth implant and freak out people just as much.

Anything to pull off that awesome bar trick and have the ladies swooning.

Weirdo On Craigslist Wants To Cook While Couples Make Love

A post shared by Jessica Anteby (@beigecardigan) on

Craigslist is a great place to try and sell your washer or used car, but it’s also a place where you’ll find the strangest requests — by people who are probably insane.

Case in point, this guy who put up an ad, asking to cook for you and your partner while you guys are getting busy in the bedroom.

The hilarious post said:

“Seeking a couple who likes sex and Italian food. I simply want to come to your place when you’re about to have sex. I’ll be in your kitchen making gnocchi with crab meat, which is my favourite dish. When you’re done having sex I’ll let myself out and you can enjoy this meal at your leisure. You MUST provide the crab. I’ll do the rest. Serious people only.”

This is pretty much the opportunity of a lifetime. This guy is willing to cook for you, and all you have to do is have sex with your partner, while he’s in the kitchen getting his Gordon Ramsay on.

The only risk is that this lunatic could be touching himself and getting off to the thought of you in the bedroom.

Yeah, the cons seem to outweigh the pros on this one. I’ll pass, Mr. 6’3″ married Italian cook, but thanks for the offer.
