Red Velvet Corn Dogs Sound Both Grotesque and Awesome

A corn dog is a corn dog, except when it’s made with bright red food coloring and chocolate, right? Summer fair season may be over, but that doesn’t mean the obnoxious eats have to be. I mean come on, who wouldn’t want to eat red velvet corn dogs all year long?

Supposedly the process involves dipping a hot dog into a red velvet pancake-type batter and deep-frying that sonumbitch, but we can only guess. The Vulgar Chef, the genius behind the thing, makes no disclosures, simply stating he got drunk and decided to make some corn dogs. There was also blueberry pancake version, but that wasn’t nearly as headline worthy.

Touché good sir, but is it funnel cake corn dog? Didn’t think so.

Shake Shack Celebrates Labor Day With Limited Edition Corn Dogs

The Shake Shack corn dog is like that family member you only see a few times a year, it only pops round for the holidays then you don’t see it again for a year. Of course you miss it, but you know you couldn’t handle seeing it on the daily.

The chain uses its usual all-beef franks for this golden masterpiece, dipping it in a special made corn batter then frying it to perfection. The corn dog touts a $4.50 price tag, which seems pretty pricey for a fried dog, considering you could get like 9 at Sonic’s for the same price, but Shake Shack fancies it up a bit by pairing their corn dog with a sweet corn relish.

The Shack is also serving up a special edition Peach Pie Oh My Concrete this weekend for $4.25. The summer flavored concrete features Shake Shack’s iconic vanilla custard blended with a slice of their house made peach pie.

Before you go running off to your nearest Shake Shack, the corn dogs are available most Shake Shack locations, except JFK, but you can find the limited edition concrete there. Oh, and if you’re planning on going to Brooklyn’s Flatbush and DUMBO locations, you better not want a concrete because these locations are only serving up corn dogs.

Shake Shack will only be serving these corn dogs through Monday, September 1st in honor of the holiday weekend.

New Blue Cheese & Bacon Angus Hot Dogs at Wienerschnitzel (Plus Caramel Dipped Cones)

Summer and barbecue have always gone together, well, like summer and barbecue. But this year, it seems fast food chains are eager to latch onto the trend. On the burger side, Wendy’s is testing a cornbread bun brisket cheeseburger in Florida and Ohio, and when it comes to hot dogs, Wienerschnitzel’s new summer offerings are equally as south and grill-inspired.

We’re talking healthy dollops of barbecue sauce, bacon, and fried onion straws on the new BBQ Bacon Angus Dog and even heartier globs of blue cheese dressing and crumbles and grilled onions on the new Blue Cheese & Bacon Angus Dog. And in case that’s still not enough #TEXAS for you, the new items also come with their own Der Cowboy commercial.  As in “HI-YO Schnitzel, AWAYYY!”

For anyone who prefers a little less weenie with their weiner, though, there’s also the old Angus Chicago Dog, featuring all the usual Chicago toppings like mustard, pickles, and peppers. Also, keep an eye out for their new chocolate and caramel ice cream treats, including a Chocolate Caramel Crunch Freeze and Caramel and Chocolate Caramel Dipped Taste Freez Cones. Pretty sweet.

Gratuitous Food Porn: National Hot Dog Day

Here’s a new rule of thumb: if you’re celebrating National Hot Dog Day, it means summer is almost over. Now, you can either start saying your goodbyes to outdoor barbecues, warm nights and love in general today – b*tching and moaning until that blazing sun makes its way ‘round to our corner of the hemisphere next year – or you could celebrate the time you still have with any of these spiffy hot dog recipes. It’s not too late to make this summer the best (or at least, most delicious one ever). Have at thee!
