Disneyland Released Their Magical Churro Recipe And We Made It At Home

I haven’t been to a Disney park in a hot minute, and let’s be honest, I’m missing that Disney magic pretty badly. With many people cooking from home these days, Disney noticed that a fair amount of them were trying to recreate the magic of some of the park’s foods in their home kitchens.

While the parks themselves are currently closed, Disney Parks Blog has released their famous churro recipe so fans can properly capture that magic from home.

Foodbeast Marc, and self-proclaimed Mousketeer, decided to recreate Disney’s churro recipe at his home and shot an amazing video chronicling his experience. If you want to follow along with him, here’s exactly what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup water
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups vegetable or canola oil
  • ½ cup sugar

The recipe serves about four people and should tide you over until the Disney parks around the world finally reopen. Be sure to check out the video above to see how we made this sweet snack. Until then, everyone stay safe and cook some amazing foods!

REPORT: Disneyland Staff State Churro Toffee the Most Successful Candy In Nearly A Decade

When you think of iconic Disneyland snacks, there’s Dole Whip, Mickey-shaped pretzels, and the ever popular churros. Disney has long played with different variations on churros, but one of their ideas that debuted in 2018, churro toffee, has exploded to a fan favorite beyond anything Disney employees have seen before.

According to Disneyland Resort Candy Production Manager Monica Weda, the squares of churro-flavored toffee have become one of the park’s top-selling candy items, and one of the most successful items that she’s seen in her almost eight years working in the candy production team.

“The churro toffee has been Candy Production’s number one selling item consistently, week over week.” she told Foodbeast. “I’ve never seen a [candy] treat over the last nearly eight years that has had popularity this strong and consistent.”

This means that amongst all of the candy apples, crispy cereal treats, cake pops, and other items you can find in Disneyland’s multiple candy shops, churro toffee is the top seller.

“It’s got some weird magical quality to it,” says Disney Food Blog creator AJ Wolfe. She was among the first to find it during its debut, and has since become a big fan of it.

The sweet is made by enrobing squares of toffee in a coating of white chocolate and then dusting it in a cinnamon sugar. Weda confirmed that it’s the same blend of sugar and spice that’s used to coat Disneyland’s churros. It also comes with an intriguing backstory, as the toffee was a concept that had been sitting on the back burner for years.

“Back in 2013, we had a product development session, and one of our candy makers said, ‘Hey, how about we try our English toffee but with white chocolate, cinnamon, and sugar?'” Weda said.

The toffee was delicious, but it wasn’t rolled out that year due to a lot of major sweet releases coinciding with the park’s 60th anniversary. Churro toffee, and its recipe, were kept away in files for a few years until the debut of Pixar Pier in 2018. The Candy Production Team then decided to try it out at the newly-opened Bing Bong’s Sweet Shop, and it rapidly became a fan favorite that spread to the rest of California Adventure before year’s end.

By late 2019, churro toffee was so coveted that the other parks’ food and beverage teams wanted in on the action. They used the candy squares to create other items, like a Churro Toffee Cold Brew and Churro Marshmallow Wands, that were launched during the holdiay season. Weda confirmed to Foodbeast that Marshmallow Wands, which were originally sold in just 2 locations, will be available across all of the candy shops starting in 2020 due to their recent success. When asked about the meaning of Disneyland adding treats to other creations, Wolfe mentioned that “[Disney] knows when something sells.”

Churro Toffee has definitely been a huge seller, with it going from test item to a Disneyland “Core Classic,” or staple, within less than 18 months of its debut. Based on the popularity it has on both social media and within the parks, it seems like this is the next hyped treat to get alongside Dole Whip and the actual churros themselves while perusing the parks.

“I don’t see it going away anytime soon,” Weda said. “I do feel that this is going to become one of our staples within our assortment.”

OREO Reveals That ‘Churro Creme’ Is Their Latest Mystery Flavor

You might remember OREO selling blank packages of “Mystery OREOs” earlier this year, as they challenged fans to guess what the flavor would be. The guessing game came attached with a hefty $50,000 cash prize for one lucky consumer who correctly identified the flavor.

We now officially know that the Mystery OREO flavor was:

The cinnamon-based mystery wasn’t terribly hard to crack. Cinnamon buns could be ruled out, as they’ve already been a past flavor, and something like Cinnamon Toast Crunch was too meta, and the world wouldn’t be ready for that collab.

OREO is very keen on food trends, and churros have been flourishing in the U.S. of late, with several restaurants revolving around the chewy cinnamon dessert.

It also makes sense considering the inverse already exists in OREO flavored churros.

While OREO said there are no plans to release an official churro flavored creme package, the mystery packages are still available in stores for a limited time while supplies last.

Tim Hortons Creates A CHURRO DONUT For National Donut Day

We live in a time where there are nearly as many donut options out there as there are stars in the sky. While my slight hyperbole there may not be the most accurate, it seems there’s a new donut unveiling from a different fast food donut chain almost every week. Fantastic for a donut lover such as myself.

For National Donut Day (Friday, June 7), Tim Hortons is making mine and other donut fanatics’ dreams come true by releasing what’s essentially a Churro Donut.

Here’s the delectable deets: Tim Hortons takes a Honey Cruller Donut and pipes it with a sweet caramel filling. Then, a dusting of cinnamon sugar coats the exterior of the cruller to create the churro masterpiece.

Be still my churro-loving heart.

The Churro Donut will be available at participating Tim Hortons locations starting June 7, and will make a national launch on June 12. Churro fans, you may want to snag a donut or 12 before they run out, as they’ll be available for a limited time only.

Rose Gold Churros Are The Latest Addition To The Disney Food Trend

Disney has been the standard bearer of the rose gold foods trend for a hot minute. Their innovations around the vibrant pink hue continue with the newest food addition to Disneyland: Rose gold churros.

Disneyland and Disneyworld both have begun utilizing the Instagram-beloved color in their foods. This is in response to how well the trend has done in their apparel department. Rose Gold Minnie Ears and Spirit Jerseys, for example, flew off the shelves like crazy when they debuted last year.

Disneyworld’s got their own lineup of rose gold desserts that began popping up last month, including a cupcake featuring the Minnie Ears that people can’t get enough of. These new churros aim to continue that success at Disneyland, where the Strawberry Rose Gold Churros can be found at the Castle Churro Cart just outside of the legendary castle.

Disneyland’s churros are already legendary, making them an ideal item to add the rose gold color to to really make the fad take off. Between all of the Disneyworld desserts and these rose gold churros, it’s a good bet that the shade will be added to plenty more foods in 2018, and at the very least at all Disney parks.

This Ube Churro Bowl Will Have You Eating Ice Cream In Style

While ube has been around forever, we’ve yet to see the mashed purple yam take on such a form as this Ube Churro Bowl. Yet no frontier will go undiscovered when it comes to food, and this sweet purple dessert is a shining example of that.

Nitrolado, a nitrogen-based ice cream parlor in Garden Grove, CA, has created a dessert that oozes ube.

How did they pull this Ube Churro Bowl off?

The dessert shop create a customized ube-flavored churro bowl that’s molded using cupcake tins and plopped into the deep fryer. As the churro is plunged into a pool of white-hot oil, Nitrolado mixes together an ube-flavored sugar that’s ready to coat the deep-fried novelty dish. Once it cools a bit, the bowl is ready to meet a scoop (or two) of ube-flavored ice cream. The three ube components come together like a sweet miniature purple Megazord.

As far as toppings go, Nitrolado typically serves this popular dessert with pieces of mochi. However, you can pretty much have it with any of the toppings the store offers. Fruity Pebbles, for example, adds a nice vibrance to the all-purple canvas.

You can find this Ube Churro Bowl at Nitrolado tucked away in Orange County. As with all other specialty ice cream dishes we write about, make sure to get your Instagram photos taken quickly. Everyone should be able to enjoy their ice cream before it melts.

Nestled in the heart Orange County, California is a magical place filled with mermaids and churros. No, seriously.

The Loop: Handcrafted Churros, located in Garden Grove, just created a mystical dessert that could potentially draw sailors to their bittersweet doom: Mermaid Churros.

Those two components combined will sing you a hauntingly beautiful siren song of sweetness.

The dessert parlor is also pairing their Mermaid Churros with a hypnotic new Mermaid Lemonade. The drink features a blend of blue raspberry lemonade and butterfly pea flower tea. Once you shake it, the lemonade creates an otherworldly reaction akin to the shimmering sea at sunset.

If you’re in the Orange County area, make sure to get in line for this dessert as soon as The Loop opens at noon. The lemonade sells out pretty quickly.
