DoubleTree Finally Revealed Their Iconic Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

After a long drive, the first thing I look forward to when checking into any DoubleTree hotel is that soft, warm cookie that they hand you upon check in. Seriously, there are so many good memories associated with that first bite.

For those tired of making banana bread at home, DoubleTree just released their iconic chocolate chip cookie recipe for all to enjoy.

If you’re not traveling anytime soon, but want to recapture the magic that comes from each bite of this warm puck of ambrosia, here’s what you’ll need:

DoubleTree Signature Cookie Ingredients

  • ½ pound butter, softened (2 sticks)
  • ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch cinnamon
  • 2 2/3 cups Nestle Tollhouse semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 3/4 cups chopped walnuts

All you have to do is combine the butter, sugars in a mixer for about 2 minutes. Toss in the eggs, vanilla, and lemon juice with the mixer now turned to low for 30 seconds, then switch it to medium for 2 minutes until the batter is light and fluffy. Now switching back to low speed, add the flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon for 45 seconds.

Take the bowl off the mixer, and stir in your chocolate chips and walnuts. Divide the dough with a cookie scoop and put them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper two inches apart. Preheat your oven to 300°F and bake for 20-23 minutes (or until edges are golden brown and center soft). Take them out of the oven, and let them cool for an hour.

Each recipe makes about 26 cookies. Wonder how many of those 26 I can knock back in a single sitting?

Watch Pro Eater Matt Stonie Conquer 13 Pounds Of Milk And Cookies

If you’re familiar with competitive eating, then Matt Stonie is a household name. This year, he’s been on a roll, taking down some impressive challenges — eating more than 9,000 calories when he replicated Big Smoke’s order from the Grand Theft Auto video game. He also ate five Chipotle burritos in less than five minutes.

This week, Stonie went the classic route with some milk and cookies. However, this challenge was no ordinary after school special. It required one gallon of milk and 203 Chips Ahoy Cookies to reach a grand total of 12,800 calories.

Combined, Stonie estimated this dough and dairy pairing was, “roughly 13-pounds of cookies and milk,” according to the video’s description on YouTube. In less than 30 minutes, Stonie had devoured everything but crumbs, and finished about 1.5 gallons of milk.

While it’s been rumored that the human body is unable to consume a gallon of milk in one hour, Stonie makes light work of these two half gallons, seemingly without any discomfort. Although, during this challenge, he did say that his gums were getting raw because of the crunchiness of the cookies.

Maybe next time he’ll dunk the cookies in milk like a normal person.

The Ultimate Ice Cream Sandwich Combos To Try This Summer

Few food combinations in this world ever reach the level of such partners-in-crime as peanut butter and jelly or hazelnuts and chocolate.

For those who are yet to add the ice cream sandwich to these ranks, prepare to be dazzled.

Below are ten ice cream sandwich pairings which will take each other to as-of-yet-untouched levels of cold, warm, and melty glory.

Chocolate fudge cookies + raspberry gelato

This has an excellent sour bite to it. The strong contrast in flavor between the cookie and gelato make for an awesome combo that is a major step-up in classiness from the standard chocolate chip and vanilla pairing. Try this combo if you want a pop of color on your plate and in your mouth.

Check out this Rachel Ray article for a ranking of gelato brands to assist this cookie sandwich adventure.

Chocolate chip cookies + praline pecan ice cream

Overall, this is a safe option if you want a simple gateway ice cream sandwich. The caramel strain in the ice cream spices it up beyond just vanilla though. The two provide a combo that isn’t overwhelming but will still please your tastebuds.

Chocolate chip cookies + chocolate ice cream

This is a solid pairing but does not provide a huge variety of flavors. As with the hazelnut combo above, don’t overstuff the cookies or the ice cream can overwhelm the stage. If you are a chocolate fanatic though, this will be sure to satiate your cravings.

Sugar cookies + banana split ice cream

You have to like banana split ice cream (basically all of the ingredients-cherries, walnuts, fudge-of a banana split blended into a single flavor) if you want to go down this route. The cookie definitely improves the ice cream though. This has a carnival appeal to it and a strong banana flavor.

Our friend Alton Brown has a sugar cookie recipe to kick start this combo.

Sugar cookies + strawberry cheesecake ice cream

We set our expectations a bit too high in trying this pair, but it was still good with its cakey flavor. If you are scooping the ice cream yourself, be sure to shoot for more strawberry bits to distinguish this enough from a simple vanilla and sugar cookie combo. Adding a garnish of strawberry sauce on the outside can also make this a crowd-pleaser.

Peanut butter cookies + chocolate chip ice cream

This works perfectly and provides the right balance of salty and sweet. The chocolate is subtle and complementary and does not threaten to overpower the joy of the peanut butter cookie.

Peanut butter cookies + chocolate  ice cream

Don’t expect a Reese’s flavor here, but prepare to be pleased. The chocolate definitely comes out more strongly in the pairing and the two tastes do compete a bit.

This provides a surprisingly different texture than expected though if the peanut butter ice cream you choose has peanut chunks. For all of these, we recommend warm cookies for maximum results.

Want to be fancy? Follow this Jamie Oliver recipe to make your own chocolate ice cream.

Oatmeal raisin cookies + blueberry creme pie ice cream

The blueberry dominates this couple, so you can only taste the raisins in the cookies. If you want to impress your compatriots with your sense of adventure though, this is the way to go. At its core, this is a souped up classic ice cream sandwich with some extra personality.

Oatmeal raisin cookies + “Supercow” ice cream

This is the safety fallback of the group. Supercow or “superman” is basically a vanilla ice cream with some added sugar. Putting it on the cookies provides a nice platform though and some showstopping color. Although not traditionally paired as ice cream sandwiches, these cookies are versatile and should not scare off the faint of heart.

As a final challenge to all who actually like white chocolate macadamia nut cookies: come up with your own cookie sandwich combinations and send them to us. We didn’t try these because, well, honestly we aren’t fans of these particular cookies.

Baking has staple, unchanging foundational elements. Sugar. Butter. Chocolate Chips. Well, at least until recently.  Earlier this month we reported on new Nestlé Toll House DelightFulls Filled Baking Morsels, one of the first innovations we’ve seen on a traditional baking pillar. Finally, you can create camouflaged baked goods that pack way more flavor than what people think from appearance alone. Think that’s a normal chocolate chip cookie? WRONG, it’s a mint chocolate chip cookie disguised as its classic counterpart.

That got us to thinking. How many ways could chocolate chips be used outside of the standard chocolate chip cookie? After browsing the Internet for only a few minutes – we realized that there would be dozens of brilliant and delicious creations to feature.  So without further ado, here are the 36 non-cookie chocolate chip treats inevitably bound to holiday potlucks everywhere.

Fast Food

Pizza Hut Now Making ‘Pizzas’ Out Of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

It seems fast food is starting to forget what pizza is. Back in April, Domino’s unleashed a new line of “Specialty Chickens,” which were essentially pizza toppings drizzled over chicken nuggets instead of dough. Now, Pizza Hut is partnering with Hershey’s to debut a new giant chocolate chip cookie. Which, while probably spec-freaking-tacular, is still not a pizza.

Officially named the Ultimate Hershey’s Chocolate Chip Cookie, the 8-inch pan will feature eight shareable slices of chocolate dotted cookie dough. Available for $5.99 on its own or $4.99 with real pizza purchase, the giant pizookie will also debut this Wednesday as part of Pizza Hut’s nationwide “bake sale,” with 10% of proceeds going to the United Nations World Food Programme.

Mildly related: Domino’s recently (and, rather serendipitously) called a “cookie pizza” one of its necessary failures in and advertisement on the road to crafting its Specialty Chickens. Which is pretty much the same as calling a first born child a “rough draft.” Pizza. Shots. Fired.

BJ’s Giving Away Free Pizookies Tomorrow

Before Frankenfoods became so infuriatingly mainstream, there was the Pizookie: a decadently oversized, fresh-baked, skillet-born cookie “pizza” crowned with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. It was simple. It was brilliant. And crazily enough, now BJs wants to give you one for free.

(A Pizookie that is, not a bj.)

Here’s the deets:

Who: BJ’s
What: Is doing the Lord’s work giving away free original Chocolate Chip Pizookies to anyone who uses their new “Dine-In Order Ahead” smartphone app. No purchase necessary.
Where: All participating locations
When: Tomorrow, June 17 aka “Free Pizookie Day,” because BJ’s said so

Oreo Creme-Stuffed Chips Ahoy Cookies, Because It’s About Time

Making healthy eating choices can be exhausting. Organic? Gluten free? What the hell are chia seeds? Let’s be real, some days it’s just easier to eat badly. For days you’re feeling especially shameless, Nabisco wants to help you indulge in the most soul-satisfying way possible, with Oreo Creme-filled Chips Ahoy cookies.

Like the Birthday Cake Chips Ahoys we covered last week, these creme-filled beauts are of the chewy variety, featuring a tiny sliver of sweet Oreo filling encased by a pliable chocolate chip cookie shell. Considering both brands are owned by the same company, you can’t help but wonder why Nabsico didn’t just stuff the whole Oreo inside, but for the luxury of (almost) not having to do it yourself, it’s hard to complain.

It’s like having your cookies and milk at the same damn time.
