SPOTTED: Taco Bell Testing A Plant-Based Naked Chicken Chalupa

Ring the alarms and tell a friend: Taco Bell is testing a new plant-based Naked Chicken Chalupa shell! Spotted at a Taco Bell location in Irvine, California, The Crispy Plant-Based Shell is a take on their own hit innovation a few years ago that changed the whole game.

This time it’s made from a pea protein-based proprietary blend, which is then breaded and shaped into a one of a kind Chalupa form and crisped up. This shell is certified vegan by the American Vegetarian Association, so you know it’s valid. The tasty shell is then filled with delicious deets like lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and a rich, tangy avocado ranch sauce to complete a mouthwatering mouthful.

The new Naked Chicken Chalupa with Crispy Plant-Based shell will be testing at the Taco Bell location on 2222 Barranca Pkwy, Irvine, California, from now until June 27, 2021.

Taco Bell Unveils Vegetarian Black Bean Toasted Cheddar Chalupa

Last year, Taco Bell debuted their Toasted Cheddar Chalupa. The menu item featured all the staples of a classic chalupa: lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, and customers’ choice of proteins along with a chalupa taco shell that was toasted with aged cheddar.

The golden bells of comfort food and convenience have announced that the popular menu item will return to menus this fall and with it a new variation.

Joining the return of the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa will be a vegetarian alternative to the popular menu item: The Black Bean Toasted Cheddar Chalupa

Certified vegetarian by the American Vegetarian Association, the chalupa features Taco Bell’s signature black beans in place of meat. The new item will join the Veggie Cravings menu, which boasts 13 existing vegetarian menu items.

Man, they already had me at anything toasted with cheddar.

You can find the Toasted Cheddar Chalupas now at participating Taco Bell locations nationwide.

Fast Food News Products What's New

Taco Bell is at the forefront of fast food joints pushing the envelope with crazy food inventions. A couple years ago, the Doritos-flavored taco was the height of the menu’s innovations. At this point, it’s almost been normalized by a string of wild options like the Naked Chicken Chalupa and Nacho Fries. Now, Taco Bell is keeping the ball rolling by introducing the sinfully cheesy Toasted Cheddar Chalupa.

This chalupa comes with the regular cast characters: lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, sour cream, and the option of seasoned beef, chicken, or steak. But, most importantly, it comes with a new one as well: the cheese encrusted chalupa shell.

One of Taco Bell’s most cherished delicacies, the chalupa shell is a thick, deep fried tortilla. For this variation, they’re taking the shell, covering it in 6-month aged cheddar, and toasting it all until the cheese is as crunchy as the shell.

Personally, I’m a sucker for anything toasted and cheesy. My favorite part of the pizza is the bit in between the crust and the cheese, where the cheese is toasted golden brown on top of the crust, and this chalupa sounds like the taco version of that. My mouth is watering just from writing that, so I can’t wait to order this at 2AM. No regrets.

If you’re a Taco Bell fanatic, and care to fight the surefire lines that will pop up for this, the new chalupa is due for a nationwide release on September 12th and starts at the mere price of $2.49.

Taco Bell’s Hyped Tripelupa Is BACK For Another Limited-Time Test Run

Taco Bell’s most recent innovation involving taco shells, the Tripelupa, is officially back on the menus for another limited-time test run.

Consisting of a special three-in-one chalupa shell, each part of the Tripelupa is filled with the same base ingredients: ground beef, tomatoes, a three cheese blend, and lettuce. From there, a different sauce (or mix of sauces) is added to each component. The outer chalupas will be drizzled with either nacho cheese or chipotle sauce, while the middle segment gets treated to both.

It’s arguably the most innovative chalupa out there, and can be utilized as a single-item snack for you and a couple buds. Breaking off one at a time for yourself or attempting to eat the entire chalupa trio in one go are also ways to try this unique eat out.

The Tripelupa was on menus in the Orange County, California area in late November and early December of 2018. This time, it’ll be in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from February 28th through early April. Hopefully, we’ll get a nationwide launch some time after that.

Taco Bell Exposes Themselves With New Fried Chicken Shell Chalupa

A while back, we discovered that Taco Bell was testing a Naked Chicken Shell  that replaced the traditional hard corn husk with a piece of fried chicken. Pretty dope concept, if you’re trying to cultivate that protein.

Taco Bell has now announced that they’ll be releasing their new Naked Chicken Chalupa nationwide at the end of the month featuring that very same fried chicken shell.

The shell boasts four ounces of marinated, all-white meat antibiotic free chicken that’s breaded and crisped. Inside the shell, the Chalupa features shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and a creamy avocado ranch.

You can find the Naked Chicken Chalupa at all participating Taco Bell locations on Jan. 26 for $2.99. The new item will also be featured in a $5 Box that comes with a Doritos Locos Taco, a Crunchy Taco, and a medium drink.

QUESALUPA: Taco Bell’s Latest Creation Combines A Chalupa And A Quesadilla

Saturday, February 6th NOTE: This article was published three weeks ago. Search Instagram for ‘Quesalupa’ to see people eating it.

Taco Bell is taking its Chalupas and morphing them with a cheesy concept that’s scheduled to make a national debut after Super Bowl weekend.

The Mexican-ish fast food chain is rolling out a new “Quesalupa,” a monstrosity that is part Chalupa and part quesadilla, according to Brand Eating. This beast is highlighted by a pepper jack cheese-stuffed shell, with ground beef, sour cream, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese and diced tomato.

In 2015, Taco Bell tested this thing out in Toledo, Ohio and it must have been a hit because the new item is releasing nationwide after its 30-second Super Bowl AD spot February 7.

Taco Bell keeps coming hard with these mashups, as we’ve seen with their Doritos Locos Tacos, Waffle Tacos and even a Cap’n Crunch delights.

Here’s hoping they bring back the racist Taco Bell Chihuahua for the Super Bowl as well.
