Danny Trejo Says Burger King’s Whopperrito Isn’t Helping Obesity

At the launch of his new food truck, we spoke to actor Danny Trejo reagarding his healthy eating habits. Y’know, the kind of diet that makes a 72-year-old man look like he’s still in his 50s.

We asked him what he thought of Burger King’s new Whopperrito, a commercial fast food take on the Tex-Mex dish.

Here’s what he told FOODBEAST:

One of the reasons we have such an obesity problem in the Mexican population is because our food is starchy and really heavy. I don’t think McDonald’s or Burger King can help that issue. They’re a part of the problem, really.

He then spoke about how his truck differed greatly from such items like the Whopperrito.

Our truck has vegan food, gluten free [food], vegetarian, and good carne asada. Even carne asada, it’s a good meat. It’s not like your Burger King [meat], it’s a good meat so it’s not gonna be bad for you.

In specific, one of Trejo’s menu items is a colorful vegan cauliflower taco. This is a huge contrast to what Burger King offers in the burger/burrito hybrid with chopped up beef, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes; essentially the contents of a Whopper inside a large flour tortilla.

You can find the Trejo’s Taco truck cruising around the Los Angeles area, where you might even run into Trejo himself.

‘Machete’ Star Danny Trejo Launches His Own Taco Truck

You may best know him as Machete or the lovable grandfather from the Spy Kids series, but I think we all can agree Danny Trejo is one tough dude. That tough dude just launched a taco truck, which you can now find driving around the greater Los Angeles area.

Last year, Trejo opened a restaurant called Trejos Tacos. So what made him take the unconventional route, going from a brick-and-mortar location to a taco truck?

Trejo told Foodbeast:

“Partly it was the clients. Everybody was asking me ‘Why don’t you cater?’ ‘Why don’t you get a food truck and come to our neighborhood?”

The 72-year-old actor is known for some physical roles in the past like the Bad-Ass series and From Dusk Til Dawn.

I’m 72 years old and I gotta look like I’m still 50. So I watch what I eat. I’ve always been, somewhat, healthy. I’m not vegan and I’m not vegetarian but I will watch what I eat.

Drawing from this, his truck offers a variety of tacos that appeals to both vegans and carnivores. There are gluten free options, vegan options, grilled chicken, and beef brisket.

While it won’t feature the full menu of the staple restaurant, Trejo’s taco truck will have a majority of the highlights.

You can find the truck running around Los Angeles at different locations daily. A full schedule can be found on the truck’s Instagram page. Trejo says that he’ll even occasionally ride around in the truck and surprise patrons.

“I like riding around anyway. I might even put hydraulics on it,” he joked.

Justin Bieber’s Card Declined At Subway, Fan Comes To The Rescue

Regardless of how famous or wealthy certain celebrities are, sometimes their credit cards have a mind of their own. Justin Bieber found this out the hard way, when he recently tried to pay for a meal at Subway, but had his credit card declined.

Did someone say embarrassing? Maybe so, but Justin got bailed out real quick when a fan reportedly covered his tab, according to the Daily Mail. We don’t yet know who the generous fan was, however, a video posted on Twitter shows Justin shaking hands with someone inside the Los Angeles restaurant.

We’ve seen Justin react much more violently, so maybe the handshake gesture was an actual sign of humility from the young artist.

It’s safe to assume Justin probably just maxed out his daily credit limit by purchasing a few pairs of $2,500 Yeezy Boosts, and will most likely be able to purchase his next meal.

Gordon Ramsay Thinks This Food Trend Is Utter Bullsh*t

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay went back on Reddit to do another AMA with the Internet. This time to promote his new mobile app Gordon Ramsay Dash.

One of the questions asked of the chef came from suaveitguy:

What is the dumbest trend in food that you thought would not have lasted, but has?

Here is chef Ramsay’s response:

I think foam should be used for shaving, not go on top of food. Because when a foam hits a plate, unless you’ve eaten it within 3 or 4 seconds, at the end it looks like sort of toxic scum on a stagnant pool. So I started with foams in the 90s, and I’m still amazed that they’re around now. So we need to get rid of the foam, and keep foam for shaving.

Obviously the world-famous chef has a pretty strong opinion about adding foam to his food. Wonder how he feels dining at a molecular gastronomy restaurant?

You can catch Ramsay hosting a ton of shows like Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef and Hotel Hell.

Gordon Ramsay Teaches Butchers How To Cook The Perfect Steak [WATCH]

While the concept of the perfect steak is always based on one’s personal preference, we’d like to think chef Gordon Ramsay has a pretty good idea what works. In his latest video, Ramsay teaches a group of amateur butchers how to cook a perfect steak.

While visiting his hometown in Scotland, Ramsay sets out to see if his grandfather’s old butcher shop is still around. During his return, he was disappointed to see the demise of the humble butcher shop. Most folks he spoke with get their meat from supermarket chains and the youths no longer aspire to take up the noble profession.

Ramsay goes to the a local college that offers a butchery course. There, he meets a group of young teenage butchers that are learning the butchery trade. Knowing how to cut a perfect steak isn’t enough, though. You gotta know how to cook it.

The chef shows these amateur butchers the key basics to cooking steak. Check out the video.
