Even when he’s on vacation, Foodbeast Costa never really takes his finger off the pulse. The resident food scientist discovered a seafood restaurant in Monterey, CA, serving a unique take on chicken parmesan.

Monterey Fish House replaces the chicken with a hearty piece of calamari steak.

Once known as the Sardine Capital of the World, the seafood industry of Monterey is actually primarily calamari. Pretty much every restaurant offers some kind of iteration of the squid on their menu.

In the case of Monterey Fish house, a large Mexican Squid steak is breaded, grilled, and prepared parmesan style — with both the calamari cutlet, eggplant, and some pasta and vegetables on the side. A hearty portion of marinara and parmesan cheese sits at the top of the entree.

It’s a seafood-oriented Chicken Parm take nonetheless that is cooked perfectly, so the squid is tender – making it actually an arguably more tasty alternative to traditional fried chicken in the role of lead protein for parm.

For seafood lovers who want to try a fresh take on Chicken or Eggplant parmesan, definitely check out Monterey Fish House. It’s also a few miles from the famous Cannery Row and Monterey Bay Aquarium. Might as well make a day out of it.

Dos Chinos Is Using Calamari To Change The Carne Asada Fries Game

Carne Asada fries are already one of the ultimate drunk foods out there. Now, they’re getting an EPIC seafood upgrade.

For the Marketplace at Foodbeast’s own festival this weekend, Meat Street Presented by the Makers of SPAM Brand at MainPlace Mall, the Asian fusion masterminds over at Dos Chinos are whipping up their own version of carne asada fries, forgoing the traditional French fry and substituting it with strips of tender, fried calamari.

The calamari is beer-battered and fried to a golden brown before being topped with cheese, avocado crema, Angus carne asada, and a Southeast Asian salsa that brings some fresh flair to the affair. Together, it creates a version of Carne Asada fries that is totally suited for Meat Street.

So after you’ve gotten your tickets, make sure to locate Dos Chinos and snag some of these next level Calamari fries.

It’s gonna be a dish to talk about, that’s for sure.

Pizza Hut Korea Created a Surf ‘N Turf Pizza with a Dessert Stuffed Crust

No one ever agrees on what toppings to put on a pizza, that’s for sure. Pizza Hut Korea doesn’t have time for this kind of indecisiveness, however, so they’re throwing om everything and then some with their new Star Edge Pizza.

The Star Edge Pizza (whose name likely comes from its star-shaped crust) is topped with calamari, shrimp, broccoli, peppers, bacon, sausage and steak. The crust is stuffed with cream cheese in the form of little turnovers. Each piece is filled with a different fruit: cinnamon apple nut or cranberry. While this doesn’t sound like the best combination of ingredients, we have to hand it to them for creativity.

Though it’s a tad on the pricey side, what would you expect from a pie that serves an entire three-course meal in one slice? A medium Star Edge Pizza is available for 28, 900 won ($27.09 US) and a large for 34,900 won ($32.71). The Star Edge is available at all participating Pizza Hut Korea locations.

Adventure: The Wharf (Boston, Massachusetts)

Everyone always raves about how lucky we are in Southern California because of our perfect weather, beaches, ladies, food… The list never stops! To be honest though, SoCal was getting to me, which is why I decided to pack my bags and visit some friends on the east coast! I planned on making a trip to Boston, Massachusetts…A place where they actually have seasons!  Check out the adventure as my friends and I grub down with some Homemade Boston Clam Chowder and fresh seafood at the Fisherman’s Net!

Craving: The Seafood Basket

I’m absolutely starving right now, and I think a lot of people can relate. It’s that time of day (this post is going up at about 10:13 a.m. on a weekday), breakfast is wearing off and all I can think about is where I want to eat lunch Sure enough, I start my prowl for foods. Here is a seafood basket photographed by The Food Pornographer chock full of fries, calamari rings, sea shanties (apparently they’re like seafood cakes, filled with vegetables like carrots, peas and corn) and busty prawns (District 9 hellllo!). This picture definitely has me drooling, even if I do slightly have the image of the socially unaccepted prawns in my head. Eat on!

Hopmonk Tavern: Sebastopol, CA

A few weeks back I made a trip up to northern California to visit my uncle and cousins, for one of their high school graduations. Sebastopol is a small little hippy town full of long beards and indians, and clearly some amazing places to eat. Hopmonk is a tavern, bar, beer garden, and a dance club and after a long day it was the perfect place to eat and drink. Check the pictures after the jump:
