Say it with me now. Slowly. Eggs… Benedict… Bacon… Potato… Pie. Sure it’s a mouthful to say, but the concept itself is enough to salivate over a mouthful of it.
If the vision’s still a little hazy, let me clear things up for you: Imagine layers of thinly sliced potatoes, melty American cheese, onions and sausage, all embraced in a cloak of bacon and baked. Then this otherworldly brunch pie is crowned with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce.
Concocted by the “Undisputed Breakfast Champ” and YouTube star Josh Elkin in partnership with Plan Check Kitchen + Bar, the Eggs Benedict Bacon Potato Pie is just one of the many crazy brunch items re-imagined by the duo for a ‘Brunch Remix’ menu that is stacked with brunch items that push the envelope on creativity.
Here’s the rundown of the full ‘Brunch Remix’ menu by Josh Elkin and Plan Check Kitchen + Bar:
This one of a kind brunch situation is only available Sunday, February 25 to Sunday, March 18, 2018 during regular business hours at all Plan Check locations in addition to brunch hours. So hop to it before you miss out on the official remix and end up settling for more of the same old brunch fare.
Breakfast is the best meal of the day, which is why it shouldn’t be overlooked once the clock passes noon. Whether it’s eggs and bacon or cereal, there are no limitations for when you should indulge in your morning favorites, and you’ll be happy to know an overwhelming portion of the population agrees.
For all you cereal fans out there, Kellogg’s has dreamed up the perfect dinner situation with you in mind.
The Los Angeles-based cafe Sqirl and Kellogg’s have teamed up to bring you “Breakfast For Dinner,” a unique, limited-time, breakfast-themed pop-up featuring innovative sweet, savory and delicious cereal-infused dishes that are sure to please any breakfast-lover.
Beginning Thursday, September 21 through Saturday, September 23, Sqirl is showing off its love for brinner, and you should too. Here’s a little sneak peak of some of the special items being offered.
Mark your calendars and bring your appetite, because no one wants to miss Breakfast For Dinner.
1. Froot Loops French Toast
This is Sqirl’s famed French toast, made with Froot Loops-steeped custard, topped with Froot Loops steeped creme fraiche, and finished with “Plum Jam” and Fruit Loops Streusel.
This cornucopia of flavors will transport you back to the days of your childhood as you embark on a journey of familiar sugary sweetness. The soft, buttery texture of the French Toast is elevated by the crispiness of Froot Loops.
2. Krispies Egg
Who doesn’t love sausage and eggs for breakfast? This Krispies Scotch Egg is an egg wrapped in Sqirl’s house pork sausage and breaded in Rice Krispies before frying.
A new way of presenting a “Scotch Egg,” it’s served with a market salad tossed with radish, shallot and Rice Krispies to keep the theme going. 3. Special K Tonkatsu Breakfast Bowl
Kokuho Rose Brown Rice, Special Kcereal crusted and fried pork cutlet, tonkatsu sauce, pickles, sesame seed soft egg. A cross between southern fried steak and eggs, this savory pork cutlet, and soft-boiled egg find a perfect balance between the crispiness of Special K cereal.
4. Matcha Rice Krispies Treats with Smoked Strawberries
These are Rice Krispies with homemade fluff, green tea powder and smoked strawberries. If you’ve ever enjoyed adding fruit to your cereal, this soft and chewy treat is a must-try. Imagine a strawberry-infused Rice Krispies Treat, but with a twist.
5. Kellogg’s Cereal-Infused Sqirl Jam
What’s breakfast without toast and jam? For those that love to spread their jam on thick, this Sqirl and Kellogg’s cereal and fruit-infused jam was made specially for you.
Featuring peach and Frosted Flakes, and Plum and Raisin Bran, these sweet and fruity spreads create the perfect dichotomy between the familiar cereals of childhood, paired with the maturity of elegant fruit flavors.
Be careful, you might not want to share these limited time offerings. And if you can’t make it, why not experiment with creating these Kellogg’s treats in your own kitchen? Deliciousness knows no bounds.
It looks like Jack In The Box is stepping into the gaming industry with a new campaign to promote some savory new Munchie menu items. Monday, the fast food chain launched their new mobile-optimized game: Crave Crashers.
Jack in the Box fans 13 years and older can drive a virtual version of the brand’s Crave Van and deliver the new Munchie Mash+Up items to hungry customers in an animated environment.
New munchies include the Wakey Bake Hash (three cheeses, bacon, fried egg, garlic herb butter), H’angry Chicken Hash (chicken nuggets in white cheese, buttermilk ranch, buffalo sauce), and Jack’d Jalapeño Hash (jalapeños, bacon, melted cheese).
Boy, we’d have a hard time not nibbling at the food if we were charged with delivery. Luckily, that’s not the case.
Each snackable-sized munchie is available for $3 at participating Jack In The Box locations for a limited time. Check out the Crave Crashers game, too, if you have a chance. Like most items on the Jack In The Box menu, they’ll more than likely be addicting.
Our favorite two brunch items of all time are always a split between Eggs Benedict and Breakfast Pizza. Both extremely palatable, and both visually striking. Usually we alternate ordering the two, so as to not pick favorites, but it appears we won’t have to any longer.
Jinny’s Pizzeria in Santa Ana, CA has added a new limited-time pizza to their weekend menu combining the best elements of the two brunch items.
The Eggs Benedict Pizza is made with Jinny’s signature pizza crust topped with a blend of Fontina & Mozzarella Cheese, Prosciutto, Basil, sous vide poached eggs, and of course, a Hollandaise drizzle.
While the pizza is only available for a limited time through the month of August, it may stick around if it becomes popular enough. We actually got to try some recently and you can bet it’ll be popular. Couldn’t stop at merely a single slice.
A while back Jinny’s also created an immensely popular Spaghetti Pizza that left our hearts fluttering and our tummies roaring.
In the digitally driven world of Instagram-able food, it’s hard to focus on the beauty and allure of fine dining. However, Tabañero Hot Sauce and FOODBEAST are working to eliminate that issue with this Open-Faced Mussel Sandwich as part of our The Tabasutra Series.
This strikingly beautiful and sophisticated seafood plate reimagines the classic restaurant dish, and also incorporates the elegance of one of the most recognized Tabasutra poses known to man — but we’ll get to that later.
Sautéed in a mixture of shallots, cumin seed, garlic, red bell pepper, and a red wine vinegar, and served on two thick slices of French bread, this sandwich will give any foodie an instant O-face.
That’s probably why “The Sommelier” was the perfect candidate for this exotic Tabasutra grip.
With 12-15 freshly cooked black mussels, a healthy helping of harissa paste for spice, this Tabañero mussel sandwich packs a spicy seafood punch you’ll only be able to recreate with the help of the Tabasutra Series recipe book.
So, what’s your favorite Tabasutra position?
Ingredients For the harissa
3oz Tabañero hot sauce
1/2 cup red onion, minced
1/2 tsp caraway seed
1/2 tsp coriander seed
1/2 tsp cumin seed
4 cloves garlic minced
1 roasted red bell pepper
olive oil, as needed
3oz red wine vinegar
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp unsalted butter
For the mussels
2 thick slices of baguette or French bread
1/2 c chopped fennel
Fennel fronds for garnish
1/2 c heirloom cherry tomatoes
1 shallot, diced finely
1/2 c white wine
1 tbsp unsalted butter
12-15 fresh black mussels
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tbsp vegetable oil
Toast all the dried seeds in a sauté pan on medium until fragrant, be careful not to burn. Roast Bell pepper on open flame until charred black, and then immediately put in bowl and wrap with plastic so it can steam off charred skin. When cool, peel skin under running water, de-seed and rough chop. Put dried seeds in a spice grinder or a mortar and pestle, grind, and reserve.
In a sauté pan, add 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté garlic and onion till translucent. Add tomato paste and deglaze with red wine vinegar and reserve.
In a food processor, combine the sautéed garlic, onion, and tomato paste. Mix with the dried spices, Tabañero hot sauce, and roasted bell peppers and pulse. Drizzle olive oil and season to taste until desired consistency and flavor is achieved.
In a medium sauté pan heat vegetable oil. Add in shallots and chopped fennel and sauté until translucent. Add in Mussels and harissa paste and deglaze with white wine. Cover the sauté pan and cook until mussels are completely open, approximately 2min.
Mount with butter and season to taste to make sauce. Toast bread and spread sauce on bread, pick mussels out of shell and build open faced sandwich. Garnish with sliced heirloom tomatoes and fennel fronds. Assemble like an avocado toast.
There’s a new kid in town and it’s serving up two syrupy and succulent brunch sandwiches that will have you coming back for more. The Horny Ram, younger sibling of the equally naughty-named Flying Cock, is making a statement with their comfort food creations.
First up, we got the Chicken & Waffle Sandwich. Not like your typical sweet and savory favorite, this sandwich offers cornflake-crusted fried chicken topped with a fried egg, cheddar cheese, avocado, and is with drizzled maple syrup in between two buttermilk waffles. Trust, every bite will be like a gift from the brunch gods.
If you’re on the fence between ordering a burger or pancakes for brunch, The Horny Ram also delivers the best of both worlds with their Pancake Burger — a juicy Pat LaFrieda burger patty with melted American cheese, topped with bacon and fried egg in between two pancakes as the bun.
But the hits don’t just stop there, as The Horny Ram’s lineup of brunch sandwiches also features a Pork Belly Croque Madame and a Brunch Burger that’ll satisfy your midday munchies. Midtown East residents, after-work happy-hour seekers, and brunch lovers alike can head over to The Horny Ram for their brunch, dinner, and cocktail menus, filled with more delicious offerings.
So if your appetite is feeling as bold as The Horny Ram’s name suggests, then treat it to New York’s most impressive lineup of brunch sandwiches and thank yourself for the nap time after.
I don’t think the phrase “treat yourself” could be more applicable to any other food item than this one.
What we have here folks is a brunch dessert item of pure decadence. Our fellow Foodbeast fam, @thenaughtyfork, has unleashed a Country Fried French Toast of epic dessert proportions. What sets this fried bread over the top is that it’s actually deep-fried slices of a bread pudding that’s made with buttery, flaky croissants.
If you’re craving this indulgent dish, it’s gonna be the feature dessert item at a Naughty Fork event called “The Naughty Brunch” at Phuc Yea in Miami. If you’re in the area on July 16th, I’d pick up some tickets to go just for the Country Fried French Toast alone.
If not, between the above Instagram video and the description of the French toast on the Naughty Brunch’s website, you should be able to easily recreate this crave-worthy sweet treat at home so that it’ll leave everybody in food comas after the first bite.
Some people can take brunch culture very seriously. In fact, you’d think they’d create a series solely on the meal between breakfast and lunch by now. Well, that’s exactly what this YouTube channel did.
Nightpanz released a hilarious sketch titled Competitive Brunching. The short parodies reality cooking competition shows like Top Chef, with a brunch-focused twist.
Contestants are asked to complete challenges that pertain to brunch like splitting a check six ways, recommending alternative places to eat as quickly as possible, ordering, and waiting for a table.
In the sketch, we meet a group of contestants who have been in the world of competitive brunching for years. We get a peek at their strengths, weaknesses, and dreams as they compete in what’s described as… a bottomless drama.
