Taco Bell Flips Breakfast Inside Out With Their NEW Naked Egg Taco

Earlier this year, Taco Bell showcased one of the most revolutionary menu items ever created when it began testing the Naked Egg Taco, a breakfast taco held together with a fried egg shell. Now, starting August 31, the Naked Egg Taco will become a limited time offer on Taco Bell menus across the nation.

Taco Bell fans went crazy after tasting this game-changing breakfast item for the first time back in April, and we can see why — it’s filled with deliciously crispy potatoes, your choice of bacon or sausage, and melty cheese.

Still, developing a fried egg shell for this reinvented breakfast staple is a perfect example of Taco Bell sitting on the cutting edge of culinary innovation and experience, a mission that Liz Matthews, Chief Food Innovation Officer at Taco Bell, plans to accomplish.

“Shell innovation is at the core of where we experiment—whether it’s crispy chicken, biscuits, or waffles that wrap up menu item classics,” Matthews said. “We bring our fans crave-able and unexpected food experiences that leave them wanting more.”

Adding to a list of already unforgettable brand experiences across the nation — like the Taco Bell Cantinas that offer full-on wedding services — Taco Bell is now putting restaurant reservations on the table.

On August 17, Taco Bell and OpenTable will give fans in select cities a chance to reserve a table for “Bell & Breakfast,” a brunch-themed event featuring the Naked Egg Taco prior to its official launch on August 31.

Better mark your calendars for breakfast Taco Bell-style.

Taco Bell’s Latest Game Changers Include A Taco Shell Made With A Fried Egg

Taco Bell is known for coming up with some groundbreaking innovations that nobody else in fast food could ever dream of being possible. Their latest creation is destined to change the breakfast game forever.

Their brand new test item, the Naked Breakfast Taco, contains sausage or bacon, nacho cheese, a three cheese blend, and potatoes. Sounds like a pretty standard breakfast taco until you see the taco shell, which is literally made out of a whole fried egg.

You can even see the yolk in the taco shell. Insane.

For those of you not down with grasping a loaded, whole fried egg and chomping on it, you will have the option to “dress” this taco up with a warm Gordita shell as well.

You’ll be able to get both of these options either on their own for $1.99 or as part of a combo with a coffee or medium drink with either 2 Cinnabon Delights or a hash brown for $3.99.

The Naked Breakfast Taco launches on April 18th as a test item in the Flint, Michigan area, so you’ll have to head there to try this novel breakfast taco for now.

Taco Bell isn’t stopping at crazy taco shells for breakfast innovation, however. They’re also currently developing this Croissant Burrito, which uses croissant dough for a tortilla shell to encase your breakfast. While we weren’t able do anything more than get pictures of this item, we’re hoping that it comes out soon so we can try it for ourselves.

Between that and the Naked Breakfast Taco, it’s clear that Taco Bell is intent on revolutionizing the breakfast game in a big way. We hope the Breakfast Taco tests well, and can’t wait to see both of these breakfast items eventually come out nationwide.

Del Taco Offering New Breakfast Tacos with Free Hash Browns Throughout April

For more than 30+ years, Del Taco’s held a host of unsung gems on its menu, including burgers, Go Bold secret fries, and yes, even breakfast. (Bacon egg quesadillas and steak scrambler burritos, say whaaaat?) But what if you don’t feel like hating yourself so early in the morning? Del Taco’s new line of breakfast tacos might be just the ticket. Just the cheesy, deliciously greasy ticket.

Starting at .75 cents, each breakfast taco comes with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, a warm soft flour tortilla, and your choice of bacon, sausage, breakfast, or steak. Best of all, you can grab them daily between 11 pm and 11 am, or purchase two for a free serving of hash brown sticks from 6 am to 11 am at all participating locations, from April 3 through 27.

Because Everyone’s Doing It: Subway Reveals ‘Secret Menu’

subway off menu

You already know how we feel about these  so-called “Secret Menus” being revealed all of a sudden. That being said, we have to admit that some of these “off-menu” picks recreated by Subway’s Executive Chef Chris Martone for Huffpo look better than the average fare.

Martone claims that many of these creations come from avid Subway eaters or employees who like to “mix it up a bit.” We can relate to that, eventually the same ol’ Oven Roasted Chicken doesn’t cut it and with over 340,000 possible combinations, you might as well create your own cheesy-guacy-bacon masterpiece.

Some customer favorites featured include the Deconstructed Breakfast Taco Flatbread (pictured above) with egg whites, steak, guac, spinach, red onion, tomatoes and chipotle Southwest sauce. Kudos to whoever created that one, it’s mad genius.

Check out a few more not-so-secret Subway items from Huffpo below and head over here for the rest.

Chicken Cordon Bleu Sub – grilled chicken, ham, Swiss cheese, tomato, spinach and honey mustard

Grilled Cheese Sub – shredded American cheese, Monterey cheddar blend and tomatoes

grilled cheese

Eggs Florentine Flatbread – egg whites, red onion, banana pepper, spinach, black olives and Italian dressing

Martone tends to pay closer attention to the more innovative concoctions and if your sandwich creation is crazy-delicious enough, it could end up on the Subway menu. At least, that’s how the Pizza Sub ended up joining the big leagues.

Now how about that Bacon Guac Cheddar Cheese Roasted Garlic banger? Here’s looking at you, Subway.

Craving: Del Taco Breakfast Taco

Late night breakfast runs to Del Taco are always so good, but for some reason I always end up getting the same thing. Well I finally changed it up and got the breakfast taco that has jalapeno bacon in it. Warm flat bread with eggs, cheese and salsa all make for a wonderful combinations of flavor. I now want another one.
