Del Taco Just Dropped A Huevos Rancheros Epic Burrito

Here at Foodbeast, we’re more or less obsessed with all things burrito, and without a doubt we’ve always considered the king of burritos (and breakfasts) to be the Breakfast Burrito. Thus, you can imagine our excitement when Elie was tipped off about the newest ‘rito from Del Taco: the Huevos Rancheros Epic Breakfast Burrito.

I’ve learned from experience that Elie always comes correct with all things Del Taco, because he knows it’s sacred to us lifelong Californians. And when it comes to their newest breakfast offering, DT did not disappoint.

Huevos. Rancheros. Burrito. Oh. My. God.

Photos by Pete Pham

For starters, Del Taco has taken the classic Huevos Rancheros and made it portable by double-wrapping it with two warm corn tortillas cloaked within a giant flour tortilla (the corn tortillas totally set off the classic Huevos Rancheros flavor). This massive burrito is also stuffed with Mexican chorizo, fresh sliced avocados, slow-cooked pinto beans, scrambled eggs, hand-grated cheddar cheese, sour cream and a roasted chile salsa.

With more than 30 years in the breakfast game, Del Taco knows exactly what they’re doing. The Huevos Rancheros Epic Breakfast Burrito is not only the largest breakfast burrito on the menu, but arguably one of the coolest and most nuanced breakfast burrito concepts on the market. Show me who else makes a Huevos Rancheros burrito. I’ll wait.

Having grown up in Southern California local my whole life, Del Taco has always been a go-to spot after a late night — or for an early morning. Everything on the menu is fuego, so, it was only fitting they added delicious Huevos Rancheros to their menu. (Don’t sleep on their three newly added breakfast rollers though — filled with scrambled eggs, hand-grated cheddar cheese, zesty red sauce and the option to add chorizo sausage or crisp bacon for only a buck.)

Thanks for the tip, Elie.

Dunkin’ Donuts Launches Line of Breakfast Burritos

Dunkin’ Donuts has taken this week to introduce two new options for breakfast in the form of multiple oven-toasted breakfast burritos highlighted by the “bold and hearty flavors of the Southwest.”

The new Southwest Steak Burrito features seasoned strips of steak, scrambled eggs, fire-roasted vegetables, potatoes, both Pepper Jack and Monterey Jack cheeses, all wrapped in a flour tortilla.

The new Southwest Veggie Burrito features sweet potatoes, roasted corn and black beans along with scrambled eggs and Pepper Jack and Monterey Jack cheeses, again, in a flour tortilla.

Both burritos are available for a limited time at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide. Early thoughts around the blogosphere point to these little burritos being pretty tasty. While prices may vary, those same reports note that the burritos are priced around $3.00.

Need a breakfast burrito today? If you’re in Orange County or Southern California, chances are you and your friends know “the spot” that has “hands down, the best breakfast burritos, dawg, I’m serious homie, the best, don’t even trip, shit is cheap, shit is dank“. For those of you that don’t have a spot to try out, or don’t speak like that, I might recommend a quick trip to Pepe’s at one of their Southern California locations and get a breakfast burrito with everything on it. Taqueria Escalante: Anaheim

Met up with all the guys for some grub before heading to DunkXChange in Fullerton. Taqueria Escalante is a local spot of choice that serves large portions of food for really cheap. I hadn’t ever dipped into a breakfast burrito from there so I stepped up and bought one. Well worth it; $2.90 for a ham, egg and cheese burrito the size of a baby’s arm.

Hardee's: Ham & Three Cheese Breakfast Burrito

Above is the new commercial for Hardee’s take on yet another breakfast item, the “Ham and Three Cheese Breakfast Burrito”. I’m a huge fan of Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s advertising, and this specific spot is no different. The burrito in question consists of 2 eggs, ham, melted cheddar, American and Swiss cheese wrapped in a cozy flour tortilla. Expect the burrito to be priced at $2.69 alone or part of a small combo for $4.29. Nutritionally, the burrito maintains 590 calories, 31 grams of fat, 455 mg of cholesterol (152% of your Daily Value), 41 grams of carbs and 33 grams of protein. Feelin’ hungry? Get to a Hardee’s near you! (Thx FFN: Nutritional Info)

Fantasy Cafe: Fullerton

The gang from Happy Days had “Arnold’s”, the kids from “Boy Meets World” had Chubbie’s, my friends and I had “Fantasy”. During this short Thanksgiving holiday, a few of my mates headed down from their respective colleges and we met up for a breakfast burrito at Fantasy. Located minutes from our former high school and littered with familiar faces, this is definitely the right spot for some food and chilling.
