Knott’s Berry Farm Reopens Theme Park For Outdoor Tasting Event

Since the early days of the pandemic, theme parks have shuttered their turnstiles in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Among them was popular Southern California-based Knott’s Berry Farm.

Now, months later Knott’s is reopening their doors. At least partially.

In specific, the theme park will be hosting a Taste of Calico food and beer event. Held only on weekends through the end of July, the Ghost Town section of the theme park will reopen for guests to walk around and eat their way through some of Knott’s new culinary offerings, as well as shop.

In early May, Knott’s reopened their fried chicken storefront for take-out only after being shut down since March. Now, guests will essentially have access to all the park’s food offerings.

This new menu includes dishes like Boysenberry Elote, Boysenberry Sausage on a bun, Boysenberry Steak Chili, Boysenberry stuffed churros, Mac n Cheese Bites, Pastrami Sandwiches, and Samosas.

With Knott’s announcement of Taste of Calico, we’ve wondered if it really is the right time to reopen their doors, especially with Governor Newsom’s order of closing down businesses to slow the spread of the pandemic only days ago.

To address health and safety concerns, Knott’s announced a plethora of safety measures that adhere to CDC guidelines ahead of the event. Here are essential safety measures the theme park stated will be taking during this re-opening period:

  • Admission will be limited each day to ensure physical distancing
  • Upon arrival, guests will be asked to enter a temperature screening and security checkpoint at the main gate
  • All associates and guests must wear a facial covering while visiting Taste of Calico or the Knott’s California Marketplace store locations and restaurants – masks are not required while eating.
  • Frequently touched surfaces will be disinfected daily and sanitized frequently. This includes but is not limited to cash counters, scanners, EMV readers, pens at cashier counters, register screens, store fixtures, door handles, and shopping baskets.
  • Signage is present to aid guests in the proper direction of travel and as a reminder to practice social distancing.
  • Seating will be spaced out throughout the Taste of Calico event footprint
  • Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the event area.
  •  All associates are screened, including temperature and symptom checks using CDC guidelines before being allowed on the property to work.
  • Associates have been trained on the importance of handwashing, physical distancing, and overall hygiene.Separate entrances and exits will appear at some store locations.
  • Store occupancy is limited to less than 50% of the normal building capacity. Queue lines outside of store locations with six-foot markers are present where applicable.

Those interested in attending this event will need to order tickets ahead of time online through the Knott’s website.

The event will take place on July 17-19 and the following weekend July 24-26. Event hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm to 10pm and Sundays from 12pm to 8pm.

Knott’s Taste of Calico opens the same day as Disneyland’s projected reopening date of July 17, which given the current state of things isn’t going to happen any time soon.

Today I Learned Knott’s Berry Farm’s Starbucks Has A Secret Menu Boysenberry Frappuccino

Photo: Knott’s Berry Farm

When I think of Knott’s Berry Farm, I think of two things: the Peanuts Gang and boysenberries. Boysenberries are so lush at Knott’s Berry Farm that the theme park even throws an annual Boysenberry festival highlighting menu items that feature the fruit.

Exclusive to the theme park, Knott’s Starbucks has been offering a Boysenberry Frappuccino for a few years now. According to CP Food Blog, the idea for the beverage came from the 2015 Boysenberry Festival where the park’s Gourmet Coffee Hut (which sold Starbucks product) experimented with the drink. A few years later, when Knott’s got their official Starbucks, the drink became a secret-menu item that guests could order.

Made with pureed boysenberries, the drink combines Starbucks’ signature Frappuccino blend with the sweet tartness of the purple berries.

With all the times we’ve been to Knott’s, I’ve never thought of seeking out a Boysenberry Frappuccino at their Starbucks. Throwing this on my must-try list the next time I’m at the theme park.

9 Outrageous Eats From Knott’s Berry Farm’s Boysenberry Festival

Knott’s Berry Farm is known as the originator of the boysenberry and each Spring they put their unique fruit to work by showcasing its endless culinary potential at their annual Boysenberry Festival.

The three-week food fest (March 16 – April 8) is a grand presentation of just how many creative and delicious ways Knott’s can incorporate the boysenberry into as many fun and unique dishes as possible.

This year they’re debuting some must-have bites as well as bringing back some tried-and-true favorites. Think an off-the-wall boysenberry milk tea with boysenberry infused boba balls and boysenberry elote with boysenberry mayo and boysenberry butter.

Clearly, Knott’s does not play when it comes to flipping the best takes on boysenberry bliss.

At a recent preview, we had a chance to check out the cornucopia of boysenberry eats at Knott’s Berry Farm. Here are just a few of the must-try and crave-worthy treats being served up at the Boysenberry Festival, in all their purple glory.

1. Boysenberry-Dipped Cheesecake On A Stick

This is a fever dream fulfilled for anyone who’s ever wanted to take cheesecake on the go. Dipping that slice in boysenberry white chocolate and you’re practically running away with this thing.

2. Boysenberry Cheese Quesadilla

Mozzarella and Cotija cheeses get all melty and cozy within a boysenberry tortilla here. You can choose to top them with boysenberry salsa or boysenberry sour cream to complete the purple affair.

3. Fried Alligator Bites w/ Fries and Boysenberry Aioli

An established favorite at the annual Boysenberry Festival, tender fried alligator bites return with the usual accompaniment of fries and creamy boysenberry aioli dipping sauce.

4. Boysenberry Elote

Get ready to get messy with this newcomer. Boysenberry mayo and boysenberry butter are lathered onto juicy corn on the cob that flips what you thought you knew about elote and adds a little signature boysenberry tang to it.

5. Chicken Wings and Fries w/ Boysenberry Sauce

Chicken wings and fries are arguably everybody’s favorite entertainment food, throw on a hint of sweetness from some boysenberry BBQ sauce and we’re treading on ‘all-time’ conversation here.

6. Boysenberry Boba

Boysenberry milk tea is an impressive feat in itself, but since the theme here is full tilt boysenberry, Knott’s decided to throw in some boysenberry-infused boba balls for maximum effect. It’s a sweet treat to cool off with while trekking through the park.

7. Boysenberry Pie Milkshake

For those with the largest sweet tooth, this boysenberry pie milkshake is your kryptonite. Imagine a whole slice of boysenberry pie blended into a boysenberry milkshake and then topped with a healthy chunk of boysenberry pie. Yeah, we’re all about this situation right here.

8. Two Foot Hot Dog on Boysenberry Bun

Sure, the impressive length of this dog is what jumps out at you here. But don’t forget that the boysenberry bun helps turn this item into a tasty duo that requires a group effort to take down.

9. Boysenberry Coconut Macaroon

These scrumptious little coconut clusters are another sweet to look forward to at the Boysenberry Festival, especially the way they’re dipped in a purple chocolate ganache. Lookin’ like a snack, literally.

Here are the rest of the new items Knott’s is debuting at this year’s Boysenberry Festival along with where in the park you can check them out.

Slow Cooked Boysenberry Short Rib (Boysenberry Hoisin Sauce, Buttery Basmati Rice, Chopped Green Onions): Spurs Chop House

Cheddar Cheese Pierogis with Boysenberry Sour Cream (Boysenberries, Sautéed Yellow Onions, Applewood Smoked Bacon): Spurs Chop House

Boysenberry Humus with Grilled Pita Bread: Indian Trails Stand (by the teepee)

Boysenberry Pizza Is Knott’s Berry Farm’s Newest Slice Of Genius

Southern California residents will recognize this time of year as the iconic Boysenberry Festival from Knott’s Berry Farm. The Orange County-based theme park, farm for berries, is home to every kind of boysenberry food product you can think of.

Each year, Knott’s adds a cornucopia of boysenberry-themed items to celebrate the festival and fill guests stomachs with before they brave the rides. This year, however, Knott’s released possibly one of their craziest new items yet: a Boysenberry Pizza.

The pie features a boysenberry cream cheese sauce topped with diced chunks of Black Forest ham, caramelized onions, goat cheese, and arugula. It is then topped with a drizzle of Boysenberry Sriracha sauce and some sliced almonds.

Guests can find the sweet and savory pie at Wagon Wheel Pizza.

Knott’s Berry Farm’s Boysenberry Festival begins April 1 through April 23. Check out the video above to see all the other mouthwatering boysenberry items the festival will offer.

Knott’s Berry Farm Has A Deep-Fried Cheesecake On A Stick For Its Upcoming Boysenberry Festival

Knotts-Fun-Stick-01

Knott’s Berry Farm’s famous Boysenberry Festival is quickly approaching and we had the chance to eat through their stomping grounds before the crowds. One of the newest items will be what the theme park is calling a Fun Stick.

What’s so fun about this stick, you ask?

Knotts-Fun-Stick-02

The dessert is a trifecta of theme park goodness. It’s a cheesecake on a stick that’s dipped in funnel cake batter. Once it’s deep fried, the Fun Stick is topped with a boysenberry cream that’s made at the park and dusted with powdered sugar.

Since the graham cracker crust is exposed the extreme heat, it falls apart inside the cake batter. Hence, the empanada-like appearance.

You can get your hands on a sticky Fun Stick at Ghost Town Grub during the Boysenberry Festival beginning March 19 through April 3.

EXCLUSIVE: 25 Unbelievable Foods From Knott’s Berry Farm’s All-Boysenberry Festival

This Saturday, March 28 marks the return of Knott’s Berry Farm’s Boysenberry Festival and the start of a limited, 16-day window for California residents and tourists alike to try dozens of limited-time boysenberry items. And for those unfamiliar with the theme-park backstory, the Knott family is famous for its fried chicken and its commercial harvesting of the boysenberry – a cross between a loganberry, raspberry and blackberry.

But it’s about to be more famous for it’s Funnel-Cake-Batter-Fried Cinnamon Roll Topped With Boysenberry Frosting, AKA The Fun Bun. You read that correctly. In addition to the custom berry dishes ideated by the Food and Beverage team, Knott’s also found a way to work with ICEE, Coke and Starbucks to be able to serve Boysenberry ICEEs and Frappuccinos.

Some of the standouts outside of the ridiculousness that is the Fun Bun include the Boyseberry Dessert Flautas from Ghost Town Grub, Boysenberry Beer and Cider from Calico Saloon, Boysenberry BBQ Ribs at Fireman’s BBQ, Deep Fried Alligator with Boysenberry Aioli at Calico Fry and the Boysenberry Wings from Sutters Grill Stand. And if you’re still breathing after inhaling the Fun Bun and can fit something else sweet in your stomach, we recommend the Boysenberry Supreme from Sutters Grill: vanilla cake pieces, frozen boysenberries, vanilla soft serve and whipped cream. A majority of the BB items are scattered throughout Ghost Town and Calico Square, so go nuts.

The Boysenberry Festival will be inside Knotts Berry Farm from March 28-April 12 in Buena Park, CA.
