Definitely Lovin’ It: McDonald’s UK to Give Away Books Instead of Toys for Its Happy Meals

happymeal

Here’s a confession: It’s always been a naïve belief of mine that my future children will learn how to read before they ever watch television. Granted, I also hope to make a living as a writer (ha), but thanks to McDonald’s new pro-literacy Happy Meal campaign, all I need to do is to move to England and I’m almost halfway there.

Barfing Spaghetti Book Helps You Measure Pasta Servings

Those carb packed strings drenched in your favorite red or white sauce will more than provide a necessary winter coat. But just in case you’re looking to shed the coat you’ve already got, just ask this little Barfing Spaghetti Book how much of that pasta you should actually be consuming.

With each flip of the page, our suited friend opens his mouth wider; signaling how many people that amount of spaghetti can feed. It may look like a children’s picture book, but until we can learn a little self-control, aren’t we just taller children anyways? And, if you eat less of the pasta, it means you can have that after-dinner Ding-Dong… Oh wait…

It’s a good thing this “helper” can’t measure how much of my burger I should eat.

“Food Blogging for Dummies” — Because Without This Book, Where Would We Be?

You can never take your blogging your career too lightly, am I right fellow food bloggers? With that in mind, the For Dummies series of book aims to launch a Food Blogging for Dummies installment that’s full-color and targets both bloggers and foodies alike.

According to the book description, “the only thing better than cooking and eating is talking about it!” So whether you’re looking to start your own food blog, or refine your current hobby, the book covers everything from finding your niche, your voice, proper design and displaying proper visuals.

The book also dives into SEO work, utilizing social media effectively and even taking your blog mobile, adding widgets, and “much more.” I wonder if the book talks about including bacon and Nutella on everything for proper social buzz or riding the Pinterest buzz?

Time will tell, the 320-page book is available for pre-order, and will list for $16.32 on Amazon. Let us know if it helps you at all…maybe we’ll order a few for ourselves…and if our site gets any better in the meantime, you’ll know the book works*.

Okie Dokie Donuts — A Graphic Novel About Donuts

Who said print was dead? Well, the blogs did…but that’s besides the point. When there’s good literature out there, you’re hard pressed to find a better way to consume it than its hardbound manifestation. Today, we’re looking at Chris Eliopoulos’ 48-page hardback graphic novel — Okie Dokie Donuts.

The novel explores the existence of Big Mama! Okie Dokie Donuts, the “best little donut shop in town!” with donuts infused with her secret ingredient — love. Yes, it’s one of those children’s novel, but the book also explores the life and times of the establishment’s “large and lovely heroine,” and generally exploits a lot of the goodness that comes along with good baking, good food and good company. Will Okie Dokie Donuts reach the highest levels of pastry powerhouses? ($9.95 @ Amazon)

Adventure: Espresso Royale Caffe (Boston, Massachusetts)

It’s December, time to grab your favorite book, throw on a scarf, chill and people-watch at your local coffee/tea shop… Or act super Indie and paint portraits and read poems aloud to strangers! The Espresso Royale Caffe was only couple blocks away from where we were staying in Boston, and was apparently well-known  for their delicious tea, coffee, bagels and laid-back atmosphere! Book: In-N-Out Burger

The full title stands as: In-N-Out Burger: A Behind-the-Counter Look at the Fast-Food Chain That Breaks All the Rules. Written by BusinessWeek writer Stacy Perman, we get a unique look at the history of the family-run California hamburger chain as it expands from one drive-thru, to an American pop culture icon. It chronicles the founding parents, and then the eventual take over by the kids who are interested in everything from drag-racing to drugs. The book delves deeper into the Bible verses on the In-N-Out cups and wrappers, the off-menu ordering system and their core customer-service values and commitment to quality. It’s available now on Amazon, and as a California native, this sounds like a great read!
