This Is Wendy’s New Vegetarian Burger

Wendy’s is going vegetarian. The fast food chain is currently testing a new Black Bean Burger for non-meat eaters to enjoy.

The burger is made with a roasted red pepper corn & black bean patty, tomatoes, spring vegetables, pepper jack cheese and a parmesan ranch sauce. It’s served on a multigrain bun made with nine different grains and seeds.

Because of the burger is meatless, the patties are cooked in an oven to keep it from touching the meat juices commonly found on the grill. Sounds like Wendy’s is covering all its bases.

Currently, the new burger is being tested in Salt Lake City, Columbus and Columbia. If successful, expect to see it get a national release sometime in the near future.

Sriracha Black Bean Soup Is New at Corner Bakery

Corner Bakery is adding a new soup to their lineup that incorporates both east and west. Of course, when most things boast an Eastern kick, they’ve gotta involve sriracha.

The bakery chain is now offering a new Sriracha Black Bean Soup. The vegetarian dish is made with black beans, onions and garlic. It’s simmered in a vegetable stock and splashed with lime, coconut milk and a sriracha sauce.

That actually sounds amazing.

The soup will be a companion for Corner Bakery’s relatively new Spicy Asian Pork sandwich. The sandwich is made with fire-roasted pork that’s sautéed in a spicy Asian BBQ sauce and topped with cucumbers, a spicy slaw, cilantro and house-pickled jalapeños.

Here is How to Make Black Bean Hummus

A lot of people miss out on the greatness of hummus. For instance, the taste pairs with pretty much anything (crackers, chips, on sandwiches!), can be almost any flavor you would like and it is one delightful snack on those very warm summer days.

When those incredibly warm summer days start to roll in, most immediately turn to fruit for a refreshing snack…great! But, don’t forget to get those veggies in too! My favorite warm summer day snack is a plate full of sliced veggies and a big bowl of healthy hummus to dip it in. My top choice for a base, black bean! Next time you are craving that refreshing snack to cool you down, give this black bean hummus a try…. it takes 5 minutes, honest! And, I promise you will be refreshed:

Recipe: Black Bean Hummus

  • 2 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 tablespoons squeezed lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin, ground
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed

In a food processor, blend all ingredients until smooth. If it needs more herbs, spice or garlic, add some more! 🙂

Serve cold with sliced bell pepper, pita chips, white grain crackers or gluten free tortilla chips.
