Country Time Lemonade & Crystal Light – New Flavors For SodaStream

With the proliferation of soda and carbonated beverages, from the 100 Drink Soda Bar being slowly implemented at Fast Food/Fast Casual Chains like Del Taco and Boston Market to uFlavor, the online marketplace for user-generated drinks, consumers now have hundreds if not thousands of fizzy options. And this is BEFORE major brands vested themselves into DIY soda-at-home. The power is shifting to the consumer who will decide not only the size and flavor of their beverage, but the ratio of carbonation and syrup as well.

Kraft Foods announced earlier this week that two of its well-known beverage brands, distributed at grocery stores and retailers nationwide, will make the jump into the DIY soda-making with SodaStream. That’s right folks, starting as early as April 2012 consumers will have the option to carbonate Country Time Lemonade and various flavors of Crystal Light. This is an interesting play for Kraft since its not only taking name brand beverages to a new market but its also choosing traditionally non-carbonated beverages for the push.

Will Country Time and Crystal Light be the first of many major brands to jump into DIY soda-making? Do you think consumers might start making their own Pepsi or Coke at home? Time will tell…

And don’t forget how the FOODBEAST crew likes to carbonate traditionally non-carbonated beverages as well. Check out the FOODBEAST TV video of us carbonating coffee, milk and whisky:

Celestial Seasonings Kombucha Energy Shots

Celestial Seasonings just launched Kombucha single-serving Energy Shots which are made from the brand’s live, raw Kombucha (fermented black tea). The Shots also contain an added blend of energizing ingredients like caffeine from guarana, B vitamins and ginseng. The combination claims to deliver an all-natural energy boost consumers can feel good about.

Kombucha is a fermented black tea that contains naturally occurring enzymes, probiotic cultures and beneficial acids. Kombucha manufacturers claim the drink is a natural detoxifier that can aid in digestion and create a more alert mind. In other words it wakes you up and gets things moving, if you know what I mean…

The Shots are available in three flavor varieties – Citrus, Berry and, for users who desire an added boost, Pomegranate Xtreme which is fortified with additional caffeine from guarana and B vitamins. Kombucha Energy Shots are on shelves now in Whole Foods Market locations nationwide, with expansion to other natural foods stores starting in December.

Arnold Palmer Goes Alcoholic

Arizona Arnold Palmer Hard Ice Tea Lemonade

Ah, the Arnold Palmer. To be honest it’s my favorite golfer’s name turned iced beverage – definitely beats the Phil Michelson drink for left handers and Elin Nordegren’s favorite snow cone, Tiger’s Blood. The combination of tea and lemonade also might be one of the best teams, narrowly defeating Sonny and Cher but coming just short of ketchup and french fries (/pure science). And adding malt liquor to the equation? Even Better.

Hornell Brewing Company, parent company and distributor of Arizona Iced Teas announced that the new ‘Arnold Palmer Hard‘ will contain 5% alcohol by volume in 24-ounce cans. It is currently available in the following states: Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and will continue to roll out nationally.

What do you think FOODBEASTS? Will you pick up one of these 24-ounce cans? Will you continue to make your own with Seagrams Sweet Tea Vodka?

FOODBEAST PartnerThe likelihood of eventually seeking help at alcohol rehab centers is considerably lesser when drinking is done moderately and responsibly.

Jones Soda Launches 16 Oz. Cans

Jones Soda 16 Ounce Oz Cans

Jones Soda, known for its delicious and specialty soft drink flavors, announced last week that the company will be introducing new 16-ounce cans to be aimed at the convenience store channel. The 16-ounce offerings includes Green Apple, Berry Lemonade and Strawberry Lime (all pictured above), and will retail for $1.29 MSRP.

As a consumer I’ve only seen Jones Soda sparingly at Starbucks, Costco and independent retailers. Hopefully the cans will give consumers more access to the their pure cane soda. More like soda-licous.

BLK Water: Black is the New Clear

I’ve seen many attempts to jazz up water before. But this is by far the most unique. The product, as reported by the Huffington Post, is called “blk.”

Blk water is said to be filled with antioxidants, electrolytes, and contains contains 77 trace minerals and elements. Best of all, like regular water, it’s calorie free! This dirty car oil looking drink is the new craze for imported water. Fresh from Canada folks!

Me? I’m sticking to tap until my debts are paid off.
