Cartoon Link Bento Box

Cartoon Link is arguably one of the greatest/worst things to ever happen to Nintendo’s Zelda video game franchise. Whether you’re a hardcore Zelda fan, or have only seem the imagery in passing, you can respect the artistic merit of this completely edible Bento Box artwork.

The folks at mybealbox have worked their magic fingers once again re-creating the setting for this iconic Link imagery with chicken nuggets, broccoli chunks, corn, beef sausage, a slice of lemon and strawberry jelly. Great. Now I’m hungry…and my geeky nostalgia is kicking in.

Angry Birds Bento Box

With the smartphone revolution on hand, it’s only fitting a few of the apps are getting some serious face time as of late. One of the most popular games spanning almost all mobile operating systems is the highly addictive Angry Birds game. If your phone can surf the Internet and download games, you most likely have flung a bird at an evil pig during an Angry Birds game session.

With all this hype in mind, we were bound to see some talented Bento Artists get to work on a completely edible, savory dish with Angry Birds in mind. Sure enough, that’s exactly what happened and what we’re looking at in this post. The culinary artists at MyMealBox have meticulously pieced together this delicious looking replica of the iconic Red Bird and the Green Pig.

X-Bentobox

A Bento Box is a term offerred up to a single-portion take-out meal typically associated with Japanese Cuisine. Traditional bento encompasses a varying combination of rice, fish/meat, and a touch-up of pickled or cooked vegetables. Many bento boxes assume the personality of a particular character, and in the above photo, we get a look at the X-Box Bento Box, or in better terms, the X-Bentobox.

Craving: Bento Box

I think I’m just on a roll with this Japanese thing because right about now, I’m craving a bento box. A tray divided into several compartments and usually served with rice, a meat, and some sort of vegetable and pickled goodness. I usually like to get tonkatsu which is just deep fried pork cutlet. Think fried chicken but with pork only super tender and melt in your mouth. My favorite place to get this deliciousness is Mentatsu because it’s just down the street from me and it’s open late. Pic of the Day: Castle Crashers Bento Box

What you are looking at is a Castle Crashes inspired bento box. For those who are unfamiliar, Castle Crashers is a downloadable game available on the X-Box Live! network. More importantly, the game is created by the awesome minds over at one of my favorite websites outside of Foodbeast and Weather.com, and that site is Newgrounds.com. What’s so special about the website? In its most barbaric of descriptions, it’s basically a website that was a precursor to what YouTube is today, but with a slightly different organization system, and strictly Flash animations/online games created by amazing artists. The website has been around since 1995 and continues to be the most respected source of user-submitted animations on the web. Enough jabber, the above fan-submitted food art sparked enough interest on Newgrounds that they are holding a contest where there they have asked all interested visitors to submit their own recreations of a Castle Crasher character, made entirely of food! Head over to this page to learn more, the deadline is April 26th, 2009! Good luck!
