Trader Joe’s Has An All-New Ube Mochi Pancake and Waffle Mix

With this pancake cereal trend blowing up everywhere, pancake mixes are flying off shelves. If you happen to be near a Trader Joe’s, however, you might be lucky enough to spot something pretty unique in the offerings of breakfast cake batter.

A crazy cool new variation of pancake mix was just spotted at Trader Joe’s: Ube Mochi Pancake and Waffle Mix.

Spotted by Trader Joe’s aficionado with the apt handle @TraderJoesAficionado,  this brand new item draws inspiration from the popular purple yams known as ube most prominently used in Filipino desserts. Ube flour is combined with rice flour to create an extra chewy texture within these pancakes. Entirely gluten free, all you really need is flour, eggs, and butter.

Let’s be honest, there’s no way I’d make minis of these. I’d want to try fat stacks of them on my first go. Looks and sounds AMAZING.

You can find this Ube Mochi Pancake and Waffle mix at participating Trader Joe’s locations throughout the U.S.

Dunkin’ Gets Romantic With New Heart-Shaped Donuts

With only a couple days left until February, we’re all starting to feel the love. Dunkin’ Donuts found a way to turn that feeling into something a little more tangible and bite-sized by creating a line of heart-shaped donuts for Valentine’s Day.

The two new donuts are the Chocolate-covered Raspberry Heart Donut and the Brownie Batter Crumble Heart Donut.

Dunkin’s Raspberry Heart boasts a raspberry filling, is frosted with chocolate icing, and drizzled with strawberry-flavored icing. The Brownie Batter Crumble Heart oozes brownie batter-flavored buttercreme filling, is frosted with chocolate icing, and drizzled with strawberry-flavored icing.

A dozen of these might be just as romantic, if not more so, than ordering a box of chocolates. Heck, we’ll take a heart-shaped donut any time of year. Love does that to you.

The donuts will be available through the end of February at participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations.

Krispy Kreme Now Has Brownie Batter and Birthday Cake Batter Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme Cake Brownie

Because everyone knows the best part of any baked dessert is licking the excess batter, Krispy Kreme is making a line of donuts catering solely to the crave. The two additions to the menu are the Birthday Cake and Brownie doughnuts, giving us a pretty sweet excuse to celebrate our stomachs.

The Birthday Cake Batter Doughnut is a combination of Krispy Kreme filling and cake batter filling inside of a yeast donut topped with yellow icing and multicolored confetti sprinkles. The Brownie Batter Doughnut features a chocolate yeast donut filled with brownie batter filling topped with chocolate icing and mini chocolate chips.

The donuts will only be available for a limited time at participating Krispy Kreme locations. While the grown-up in me is rationalizing getting one of each, the kid in me is doing cartwheels. I’ll take two, please.

Waffle-Breaded Chicken Nuggets Make for Maximum Portability

Back in September, Popeye’s released their new “Chicken Waffle Tenders” — deep-fried chicken strips with waffle batter mixed into the breading, making for a fluffier, richer piece of poultry than your typical nugget. Early net reviews were largely positive, complaining mostly about the missed opportunity. Popeye’s take on the chicken and waffles trend simply wasn’t waffle-y enough to matter.

Luckily, Nick from Dude Foods made no such mistake with his new Waffle-Breaded Chicken Nuggets. His second riff on the trend, following his waffle-breaded chicken wings, actually manages to make the famous combination even more portable. Think the perfect way to maximize maple sauce packet dunking, should you decide to get your nuggets from a fast food joint. (And, duh, McDonald’s nuggets in waffle batter? Why wouldn’t you?)

Beer and Bacon Battered Deep Fried Doritos — You’re Welcome World

We’re closing out the year now and it’s hard to imagine what else anyone could possibly do to make 2012 any more of a bizarre, emotional, spectacular foodie rollercoaster than it already has been. After all, we’ve already seen the Tacone, a Mashed Potato Vending Machine and Quidditch Pong–the innovation’s gotta run out at some point.

Well, leave it to Nick from Dude Foods to prove us wrong, yet again, with his latest Beer and Bacon Battered Deep Fried Doritos.

Crunchy and puffy and kinda like Doritos 3Ds, these darlings were made by mixing equal parts flour and beer, tossing in some bacon bits and throwing everything in the deep fryer. Best of all, despite their rounded exteriors and being dipped in oil, the Doritos inside supposedly still managed to keep their crisp.

And what, beyond that, can you ask of a deep fried Christmas miracle? I surely don’t know.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Lava Cake

Is it a problem if every time I hear the word “lava” I think about a tasty melting cake and not the deadly magma erupting from a volcano? If it is, I think I can attribute my problem to this Peanut Butter Chocolate Lava Cake. This unique cake is made with peanut flour which is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Alongside peanut flour this lava cake also contains unsweetened cocoa powder, Greek yogurt, milk and peanut butter. As you can tell from the picture, from the first bite this cake oozes out a pudding-like batter that has been laced with melted peanut butter! Hungry yet? (Thx HealthyFoodForLiving)
