Sweetfin’s Collaboration With BØRNS Yields A Poke Bowl Masterpiece

Surely good food and dope music are a winning recipe for a fantastic dining experience. So what better result could one get than when a musical artist and renowned chef form a masterful collaboration?

In a partnership with popular singer and songwriter BØRNS, Sweetfin Poke has created an exclusive poke bowl that’s truly a work of art.

The Blue Madonna, named after BØRNS’ new album, was created by Sweetfin’s own chef Dakota Weiss. Chef Weiss’ creation features a medley of unique ingredients such as golden beets, Green Dragon apples, forbidden rice, golden edamame shoots, and a Forest Berry Anise Ponzu sauce designed to complement the albacore. As a garnish, Chef Weiss adds blue Borage blossom and tops the bowl with a curry toasted almond for some heat.

Kind of makes sense why they’re describing it as something from “the garden of Eden.”

Launching Monday, Jan. 15, the Blue Madonna Bowl will be available at all Los Angeles Sweetfin locations through Feb. 28.

Visually and conceptually, this a masterpiece.

Trader Joe’s Catching Heat For Allegedly Under-filling Tuna Cans

TJ-Stk-GM

A class-action lawsuit was filed against Trader Joe’s that claims the chain isn’t filling its tuna cans enough to meet federal standards.

These allegations specifically fall on the Albacore Tuna in Water Half Salt and Albacore Tuna in Olive Oil Salt Added. So the cans of tuna are five ounces in size. However, they’re only required by law to have at least 3 ounces of fish in them.

Allegedly, Trader Joe’s Tuna in Water Half Salt only average 2.43 ounces per can and its Tuna in Olive Oil Salt Added averaged 2.87. Neither of those averages meet the 3-ounce federal standard. While those numbers don’t seem like much, consumers are getting about 25 and 11 percent less fish than they’re expecting.

According to the lawsuit, every can of Trader Joe’s tuna the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration tested didn’t meet the fill requirement and was shy of 3 ounces.

Bruxie Offers Crispy Waffle Tuna Sandwiches

Bruxie-1

Bruxie, Orange County’s OG waffle house, has done it again and managed to bring Southern Californians another satisfying dish. This time we’re talking wild albacore tuna coated with melted cheddar cheese and stuffed in a waffle.

The new menu item is a collaboration with Oregon Seafoods,  a company that prides itself on their line-caught Albacore off the coast of Oregon. For those of you familiar with Bruxie’s more indulgent dishes — the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich or S’Mores Waffle, to name a few — the Waffle Tuna Melt offers a surprising, if not refreshing, meal to dine on.

The waffle itself carries a light crisp, contrasting well with the soft creaminess of the tuna and cheddar. Overall, the waffle sandwich walks the fine line between leaving you satisfied and leaving you stuffed. Although, in our case, it was the latter, as we couldn’t help ourselves from getting seconds.

Tokyo Cafe: Trip One

There is a secret hidden spot in the Orange circle; a secret hidden sushi spot that noone knows about that sells amazing sushi for super cheap prices. No one can find it. Ok, it’s not a secret at all, actually it’s probably one of the most popular places in the circle. Tokyo Cafe is a godsend. I could rave on and on about how amazing this place is, but instead I’ll let the pictures do the talking. Check out Elie and my business meeting:
