We’re plenty guilty of surfing through Amazon and buying a ton of unnecessary things from the online retailer. Quite a few of them, actually, are things to litter our kitchens with. So when an inexpensive kitchen gadget that makes our cooking experience much easier comes along, we kind of throw caution to the wind and go for it.

Fully realizing that all too common scenario, here are ten kitchen toys we found on Amazon that are less than $5. Our apologies ahead of time for any discomfort you might feel in your wallets.

Onion Holder Slicer

To the uninitiated, chopping an onion can be one of the most difficult tasks in the kitchen. Still, we hold back tears and risk bloody fingers just to dice that little bastard, because almost everything tastes better with onions.

Having an onion holder on deck assures that our fingers won’t accidentally slip and get sliced while we get to work. The tears, however, will probably be there.

A huge part of baking is making sure you have egg yolks and whites. This means you have to know how to properly separate the components of the egg. If you tend to have trouble getting the whites outta there before your yolks crack, this separator will simply suck the yolks out in one quick motion.

This should make baking a lot simpler as you’re not having to mess around with shells.

McDonald’s McPick 2 Menu To Feature Big Macs, McNuggets And More

About a month ago, McDonald’s came out with a promotion called the McPick 2, in which customers could choose any two items from a very specific menu of four items and only pay $2 for them. Well, some changes have been made to this deal after a tumultuous past month for the company, and frankly, they’re very welcome.

When the promotion first came out, the only things that were available on the menu were a McDouble, a McChicken, a small order of fries and mozzarella sticks.

The mozzarella sticks in particular were an interesting option, since at the time they were a brand new item altogether, although several problems began arising from them, including a baffling lack of the snack’s main ingredient: cheese.

After the 5 week test run, McDonald’s has decided to change the deal up, but in a good way. Now known as the “McPick 2 For $5” deal, the upgraded version of the promotion brings along some of McDonald’s best items for the ride, including but not limited to: the Big Mac, McChicken Nuggets, Quarter Pounder, and the Filet-O-Fish.

I previously wrote about the 2 for 2 menu and how much it sucked. This, however, is definitely a step in the McRight direction.

Kraft Has Plans To Remove The Artificial Colorings From Their Mac & Cheese

Kraft-Yellow-Color

Orange and blue have become synonymous with the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese brand. The bright orange, derived from synthetic coloring, is now set to undergo some natural changes.

Beginning next year, Original Kraft Macaroni & Cheese will replace colors Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 with more natural ingredients. The brand said in a statement that they’ll be using paprika, annatto and turmeric in its Macaroni & Cheese to replicate that famous bright orange coloring.

The big change is set to take place in 2016 because Kraft will need the rest of the year to figure out a recipe that both keeps the color and doesn’t affect flavor.

Yellow 5 and Yellow 6, known as Tartrazine and Orange Yellow, are synthetic lemon dyes that are added to food for color. They’ve been known to cause asthma and hyperactivity in children.

Subway Addresses $5 Footlong Controversy in this Hilariously Fake Onion Report

Onion-Subway-Footlong

Turns out anyone trying to get healthy off Subway sandwiches was doing it wrong this entire time. The Onion fictitiously reports that Subway executives meant for the popular $5 footlong special to be split among two people. In fact, they’re in downright disbelief that anyone can tackle a footlong sub all on their own. Who does that, right?

The sandwich chain states that they’re “deeply sorry” if customers were led to believe eating an entire 12-inch sandwich was healthy for them. It was never meant to. In response to angry patrons, Subway modified their marketing strategy, clearing up any misconceptions that a footlong was meant for a single person in one sitting.

Check out the hilarious piece of satire below and you’ll never eat a $5 footlong again. No, you probably will.

Here’s a 12 Minute Mortal Kombat Cover of Subway’s ‘$5 Footlong’ Song

mksubway

The Mortal Komband is a Georgia-based pack of miscreants who decided to make a 12-minute Subway $5 Footlong music video while wearing Mortal Kombat costumes. Not well, mind you, but with respectable vigor. The video pays an awfully discordant homage to everyone’s favorite smelly sandwich chain and features cameos by Jax, Mileena, Sonia Blade, and Jonny Cage — as well as a few game tie-ins like a tubby Jonny throwing photos of himself and lead singer Sub-Zero holding up a frozen sub.

Unless you’re a hardcore MK fan, high, or deaf, you can probably watch less than a minute of this thing, then be on your merry way. Everyone else, well, more power to you.

Starbucks Lets You Buy People Coffee Over Twitter

tweetacoffee

Here’s something social media geeks can totally get behind. Imagine you’re at a Starbucks, editing photos, writing blog posts, pretending to do all that while infinite scrolling on 9GAG or Tumblr, when in walks — no, couldn’t be — yes, it totally is! — your favorite photographer/writer/filmmaker/aspiring actor you always vaguely knew lived in your area, but never imagined you could actually meet in person! But wait, you don’t want to seem like just another random fanboy. Quick, tweet them a $5 gift card along with a slick message letting them know you’re there, you’re a huge fan, and you’re totally not a stalker.

“@BettahThanYou4Evah Just a little something to get you through your day. BTW, you smell really nice. Love, Olive Cardigan Next To The Window.”

Nailed it.

Lifelong fantasies aside, Starbucks has just rolled out a new way to let customers send each other $5 e-gift cards over Twitter. It’s called “Tweet-A-Coffee,” and to get generous, all you need to do is sync your Starbucks and Twitter accounts, tweet “@tweetacoffee” TO the “@twitterhandle” of your lucky gift recipient, and wait for him or her to receive your little act of kindness on his or her smartphone.

Now, about here would be where I would shamelessly plug my own twitter (*cough, @satoriie, cough*), but I don’t have a smartphone so it probably wouldn’t help me much. We expect @MindyKaling and @twhiddleston are about to be super caffeinated, though.
