I was never a fan of Twinkies, so I wasn’t among the throng of lamenting sweet tooths when the news of Hostess’ demise dropped. I am, however, a fan of red velvet. Yes, I know it’s just dye and buttermilk, but goodness, everything tastes so much better en rouge — especially cake.
As you’ve probably realized by now, this Red Velvet “Twinkie” is really just an excuse to eat cake pumped with cream cheese filling and topped with flaky coconut bits. Hey, that’s reason enough for me.
