Cheerios Releasing Peanut Butter & Dulce de Leche Flavors in 2012

Starting January of 2012, Cheerios will bringing two new flavors to their portfolio: Delce de Leche Cheerios and Multi Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter. The Peanut Butter variety boasts 110 calories per serving, 5 whole grains and the use of real peanut butter. The Dulce de Leche Cheerios is a lightly sweetened caramel flavored cereal at only 100 calories per serving.

These two additions to the Cheerios family bring the total number of flavors to lucky number thirteen. Guess it’s time to start stalking up on milk for the new year.

Unfortunately, nobody in my family will ever eat Cheerios again. My favorites were:
Apple Cinnamon
Yogurt Burst Strawberry
I always wanted a banana no-nut or even a banana yogurt flavor too

But my 3-year old, 12-year old, and I (44) are all deadly allergic to peanuts. Bringing them onto the Cheerios production line in any form means we can’t risk eating ANY of them again because the likelihood of cross-contamination is too high. I really don’t want to go to the emergency room again because of cereal!!

It also means that my kids can’t eat them at school, at friends’ houses, or anywhere else, because the peanut-butter ones look very hard to distinguish from the other flavors appearance-wise.

I can’t even START to tell you how angry and sad I am about this new flavor, especially because I’m one of the weird ones that would probably LOVE Dulce de Leche. 🙁
